- It’s finally time to finish the patio!! If you missed my last video on it, we created a cozy corner with a pallet sofa and it literally is the perfect spot to start my day. But, the rest of the patio is looking quite sad. So we are going to complete it by adding even more privacy and bring life in with some easy, outdoor DIY ideas--including one for a potential new family member!!

Salem looks like she may be pregnant. If you can, please borrow a cat carrier or trap and take her to a vet to see if she is microchipped and to get an exam in case she is pregnant.
Seconded! Or put a breakaway collar on her with a little QR code or something that links to your cell or an email to let you know if she’s owned

I worked in kitty rescue so if you think kitty will go in a carrier, you can take her to any pet smart, they have chip readers. If no tag and no chip, you can ask neighbors or apartment management. Lots of animals get dumped at apartments. Thank you for caring for her. Love how the porch is looking. I have to do the same. Our balconies are right up against each other.
LoVe those chairs you're getting rid of ,their the best design feature. Can they be washed and moved indoors somewhere just put cushions on them for more seating and comfort when the company comes.
I love cats also, and recently found out I’m allergic to cats more than dogs. I have two, and their going no where😊

I used to be very allergic to cats as a child, but I was determined to have a cat when I grew up so kept petting any cat that came my way. Now, as an adult, I am only allergic to Persian breed. I had adopted a Siamese/ Persian kitten and I got a bad reaction. We had to rehome Tosca and it broke my heart. He went to the lady who ran a cat rescue and Tosca became an important daddy figure to new kittens and since he was such a social boy he helped new rescues adapt. She was so happy he was such a big help. That made me feel so much better that he was enjoying his new home and the important job he was doing.

You could always buy a collar for Salem and attach a note to the collar asking if she belongs to anyone! That way you at least know she has a home. Loved your DIY’s like always! 💕
I literally did this last week for a sweet kitty who started showing up at our house. It's been a month now and he doesn't have owners. We are taking him to get neutered next week. Although we can't keep him inside he will be taken care of! I got him am apple airtag as well and an outdoor house. We have 2 rescue dogs (neither of which will even tolerate the sight of a cat) 😢 we named him Freddy mercury and he seems very content now! He goes where he wants and comes home to sleep his his house, eat and get some tummy rubs every day at 4pm 😂 cat distribution system strikes again!
Please post on your apartment and local chat boards and put up some signs around to see if Salem has an owner. She also should go to the vet to check for a microchip and check if she is pregnant, like other comments mentioned. If no one responds to your enquiries and she doesn't have a microchip, I'd have her spayed, there are low cost clinics, before she gets pregnant, if she's not already, and adopt her or find her a home. Outdoor cats only live around 2-5 years, their life expectancy is dramatically cut short, and kittens born outside suffer and many die. Thank you for caring about Salem! You're a good person. The cat house is adorable.
Also... if you g get to keep her, there's likely a rescue who will help you foster her babies (if she's not chipped or claimed, but is pg) and you'll really enjoy cat parenthood.
A friend of mine who is an older millennial got cats for the first time this year and messaged me and said she finally understands the cat obsession now. Lol

Someone is taking care of Salem. She's seems well fed. Maybe she doesn't have an actual "owner", but someone is feeding her. As friendly as she is, she used to have a home and is not afraid of humans like a feral cat would be.
the cat seems very tame, cats like to visit places where they get either food or attention even though they have a home. Love the outdoor place

Congratulations on your new friend Salem. 🐈⬛ We have 4 rescue cats. (Gandalf, Mari, Bella & Bullseye) Cats can be the most loving and amazing friends.
Our Mari is a little black kitty. She was a friendly feral at the RV Park we lived at. We adopted her when she was ready to have her 2nd litter that we know about. Her kittens were taken by a foster agency to find furever homes. She's spayed and is a sweet gentle friend.

Salem might be a neighbourhood cat of sorts, in villages (smaller communities in general) they all take care of the local cats communally.
Once I had to temporarily live with a housemate and I couldn’t bring my cat so she lived with my Grandma until I got an appropriate home for her. During that time she became a local celebrity, chilling on the couch with the neighbour, sitting on all the old people laps in the street.
Grandma lives in a village primarily habituated by the elderly in the south of England where the weather is usually sunny and people spend most of their day sat in the gardens nattering and gardening. She would make her way up and down the street getting treats all the way and let the local stray Tom cat eat her dinner because she was full, drove my grandma mad, “I’m not paying to feed him!” She would complain, she had a cat flap installed and he would just let himself in to eat my cat’s dinner and she let him, cat politics man.
Salem’s eyes and fur look healthy enough that he is being fed good food but not good enough that it’s the top dollar good food. Salem looks exactly like my cat Sheba and that’s what her fur looks like if we buy mid-tier food (like iams) before we found the one she had now and she’s like silk.

Another comment suggests Salem could be pregnant which would also explain the fur condition as extra nutrients are being supped up by those babes (if true lol)

CAT - I've been a cat person, most of my life. Had a Rescue 14 years ago, currently volunteer with L & F groups and have cats.
My thoughts; The cat belongs to someone close to that area. Someone is feeding it, It's very well taken care, healthy, shiny coat. I would ask your neighbors, someone probably knows the owner or where it lives. It's a shame they let it out to roam, concerned with the traffic in that area. Hopefully the owner is at least responsible enough that it's fixed - spayed / neutered.

And agreed with others that she's probably pregnant! I'd also suggest reaching out to a local cat rescue for resources and help with trapping her if you can't get her into a carrier!
Also, I was super allergic to cats too growing up, but after getting my first cat and having some bad allergies for a month, my body adjusted and I'm no longer allergic! And you definitely don't need a yard for a kitty, indoor is best anyways!! 😉

Definitely, you have to take it to the vet to check the chip before you get attached. We know someone who had a similar story - the cat was handing around the flat all the time for ages - we thought it was a stray, so we named him Jack. But with the first visit at the vet, it turned out her name is actually Bianca, and she is not homeless at all - just greedy for food and her owners' lives couple streets away. 😅

The privacy screen is genius, the stained glass is beautiful, and the cathouse ........ I love cats and miss not having one. The puppy we adopted 2 years ago is absolutely death on cats, so haven't gotten another one since my old cat, Dakota, died a few years ago. You did a great job on this small patio - so stylish and comfortable. Looks like a lot of outdoor dinners and parties are in the offing for the summer.

Loved all those projects as they were very cleverly done and could be marketable at a street fair. Everyone is great, but I would place that screen higher up or find some way to attach it to the dividing wall, but gorgeous it is...that cat house is so clever she has her own view when being inside of it , the best cat house Ive ever seen. Incredible! The privacy screen - ingenius! And so easy to do. The stained glass greenhouse - so pretty and another easy project. Thinking I could do that on my front door storm window. And actually any window in my house. How pretty would that be!!
All-in-all looks fantastic! I also agree with other commenters - take the kitty to a clinic or vet and have her checked for possible pregnancy and/or if she's chipped. I lived in a walk-out basement apartment decades ago and a neighbor's cat would come over and hang out. So cute! One time, as I was leaving, she was sitting on the top of a retaining wall and acted like she was hurt by lifting up one paw. Then, she switched paws! So funny! I don't know, but perhaps animals know who are animal lovers and feel safe. Plus!! It is a vacation for them!!!

My 2 boys like to go visit our neighbors too so I finally had them chipped last year 😊❤️ My long haired fur baby claimed our neighbor woman’s covered patio and cushioned chairs as his own 😂 Thankfully she was such a good sport about it. When she moved, everyone thought she had left her cat behind…. well, not the case, we were only 15’ away, laughing everyday 😊

I would add some fairy lights around the privacy screen and maybe even Salems house.
I would add some magnets, command strips or sticky Velcro to your table covering so the wind doesn’t decide to rehome it someday lol.
I would also add a DIY table top tin fire pit in your lounge area. Most supplies can be purchased at Dollar Tree to make the little table top tin fire pit. There’s tons of DIY Dollar Tree videos on CZcams that help give guidance and inspiration for supplies, design etc.
It looks like a beautiful grounding, warm, inviting, relaxing and serine place to return to self and enjoy self healing and just be without the chaos of the outer world and energies.
It’s actually beneficial to have a cat and dog. It’s been scientifically proven that cats can carry low vibrational negative energy from us on their fur then they roll around on the ground or floor to release it, along with petting them can offer us a relaxing meditative and healing state. Dogs will bring in positive energies, especially the ones who can really connect with their humans soul and understand us on levels we sometimes don’t even know or understand. Dogs offer many benefits like reminding us to take a break and return to childlike play without feeling like we have to be whatever the outer world demands us to be, to be gifted with opportunities to return to our natural core of being, to truly be loved unconditionally without extreme demands of high expectations and teach us the deeper levels of true unconditional love and forgiveness while blessing a human with the sensation of belonging in a world that seems lost, keeping us grounded. Yin and yang ❤❤
