A smoke machine is used for doing a diagnostic test for vacuum leaks on an engine. In this video I will demonstrate the process and you'll see exactly what it looks like when you find a vacuum leak using the AUTOOL SDT 205S.

Great tool, really helps and definitely solve vacum leak problem without spending hours to find small leak. Must have for workshops, but it might be overkill for single user. If anyone looking for a way to check vacum leak, you can start with cheapest way, which is cigarrete and hand glove. We put on glove just after MAF and make sure its tight. Next we take break vacum line, light up cigarette and blow some smoke inside. its not going to make such pressure like machine, but it will definitlly help. Second option is fog machine, I tried one and it was ok, but you need to have good way to capture smoke (my pipes melted due to temperature). machine presented solve many problems that you are not even aware of if you neved had to find a leak. You will not find a vacuum leak with a cigar or anything like that, ok Scotty Kilmer?
another good way is a syphon pump and a vape, the pump helps build up a bit more pressure and the vape gives a good amount of a smoke which is easier to see than the small amount of smoke a cigarette makes
These are amateur methods that do not work. You need forced air & smoke
I had a vacuum leak in my E46 325i. I used a cigar and a liquid transfer hand pump. It worked well for my purposes.

would mineral oil smell better than baby oil?
There is usually always a leak on the suction side. Same with the turbo engine. A vacuum is created that should seal it afterwards.

Is it designed for evap troubleshooting. I have the autool sdt-206. Have used it on my 20p6 sti that had a po442 and po456. Made repairs . I had to improvise to control the psi at 1 to 4
My son's car has developed the P0456 so I figured I'd get a smoke machine. I was able to pick up a SDT206 used at a good price. After watching some videos on it, there always seems to be someone who comments that the pressure is way too high and it's going to destroy everything if used on the evap system. Unfortunately, these comments are never left by anyone who has actually used the machine. One commenter even insisted that it could cause the gas tank to rupture. The size of the compressor inside the box is so small, I'm finding that impossible to believe.
What was your experience and how did you regulate the pressure down?
Do Autool make one suitable for motorcycles.

Any vacuum leak before the throttle valve is not really a big deal right? Mainly because there isn't any real vacuum before the throtle valve.
No. anything downstream of MAF is unmeasured air.
@@wydopnthrtl correct. But there is never a high vacuum before the throttle valve. In other words: even if there is a small leak....there is never a high delta pressure sucking in unmetered air.

Is this tool as useful for oil leaks?
There is going to be a balance in that one. Not enough pressure and no. Too much pressure and it'll be false for dynamic seals. Won't hurt to try.. and would be good for moderate to gross leaks in static seals.

Dont use baby oil. Get yourself party smoke machine fluid which contains propylene glycol. It makes thick, nice smoke.

That's a great idea! What about just using a 400watt party smoke machine and hooking up a hose? Wouldnt it basically do the same thing as these expensive automotive units??? Literally like 40 bucks for a party smoke machine.
I got a recommendation to use "skin care glycerin or industrial glycerin" on the product description for a AUTOOL sdt-206 on Amazon. Vegetable glycerin is used in e-liquids for e-cigarettes to produce thick smoke, no smell, so ill try that when i get my std-205 delivered.

I tightened the intake boot and performed a second test. The remaining leak was from the back. Video real soon
