      @kathyduvall I paid $9.00 in 1982, plus a .25 cent CC fee! Paid the same to see Van Halen and REO Speedwagon that year. Those were the good ole days! With inflation, $9.00 in 1982 is equal to just under $25.00 today, so I'm wondering why concert tickets now are $100.00-$500.00+ !!

In the late ‘70s-early 80s tickets were about $8, and records were about $8, and minimum wage was $3.35/ hour. Now they can’t keep people from copying music, so they use the music to sell tickets. Walk this way is an aerosmith song. Their career was dead when one day, one of the guys in RunDMC came to the studio listening to this song and the producer was also the manager for Aerosmith and he arranged this collaboration, and it saved Aerosmith's career. To this day, Steven Tyler says he is eternally greatful for Run DMC agreeing to this

    • @billchaney8791
      @billchaney8791 Před 2 lety +7

      The idea that his salvaged Aerosmith's career is a false narrative. Their career was down because Joe Perry had left the band. He came back right at this time and they released the Permanent Vacation album that had several good songs that became hits. The album was a great comeback album and would have been successful without this collaboration.

I think your original comment while technically may be factual.. it was not really true.

      Rick Rubin was producing RUN-DMC for Def Jam records, which he had founded with Run's brother Russell Simmons. He was not Aerosmith's manager. The reason he came up with the idea to cover the song was because they used to loop just the first few seconds of the drumbeat and rhyme over it. RUN-DMC had never even listened to the whole song before.

I bought Run DMC's classic album Raisin' Hell when I was in the 5th grade, and I've always preferred the collaboration re-release as opposed to the original. Rock and rap featuring together on a song was quite a big deal in those days 🤘

  • @hermanubis7046
    @hermanubis7046 Před 2 lety

    This is a Aerosmith song from back in the 1970s, and Run DMC decided to cover it. You need to understand, back then, there was a real rivalry in the fandom, those who listened to rock on one side, those who listened to rap or hip hop on the other. This was a big "moment" in music history. It was suddenly fine to "officially" like both (people who really love music did anyway, but no rock fan would have admitted they liked rap and vice versa). Aerosmith were not doing so well at that time, and they became popular again after this. I've watched other "reaction" videos, and I realized most people who weren't born (or old enough) back then don't get many things, the context, impact and meaning at the time, and subtleties, easter eggs and the like, hints on things going on back then etc.

    Steven Tyler did this song with the 2 cello guys, backed by orchestra in Italywhere Steve Tyler’s father is from. It is cool, starts out with Dream On, then Walk this way. Very cool. More your generation. This version is mine, I love both!

    You were talking about that being old school hip hop rap. The lyrics that they're rapping are the original lyrics to the Aerosmith song but the way that they deliver it it sounds like it's just a written rap song

    Definitely do more RUN DMC as well as their solo stuff! Both RUN and DMC put out some great stuff after Jam Master Jay’s murder! RIP Jam Master Jay! And Aerosmith has a lot of great material as well! Some of my favorites from RUN DMC, other than this some, are: It’s Tricky, Peter Piper, Christmas in Hollis, It’s Like That, My Adidas, Mary Mary, Here We Go, Beats to the Rhyme! Some of my favorites fro Aerosmith are: Cryin’, What It Takes, Amazing, Rag Doll, Crazy, Angel, Janie’s Got a Gun (difficult subject matter), Going Down/Love in an Elevator.
