    The Signature I have goes down to a 1.75. This is for my Alto. Thanks for that information. Very informative! Ya the American cut seems to have brighter tone.

    I like and play both reeds. I think both have strengths and weaknesses. The Signature is warmer, but I seem to get more variation in clarity from note to note. For me, the American Cut has excellent clarity, but leans in the brighter direction. Which I pick depends on the sound I'm going for in the moment. If the Signature and American Cut had a baby, I'd be set for life.

    I switched to the AmCut. 1 3/4. From the Signature. Very happy.

      Thanks for the comment George! What strength signature were you using? I'm guessing a 2?

  • @signaturesaxbymicksheldon

    I've just got the American cut and found on the Theo Wanne they stick out a bit on each edge. I suppose I'll just have to get used to it !

    Oh I use 7* mouthpiece does that matter, on reeds sizes or strength higher or lower synthetic legere reeds (3.5 Kane Reed)

    • @dannyboylan2342
      @dannyboylan2342  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Daryl. You can look up a Legere reed strength chart online to see what they recommend that would be comparable to whatever brand 3.5 cane you use.

    Thanks Dan. I have not tried the American cut yet on all my saxes but did try the Signature. I still prefer cane at this point but after watching your video I might give them a try.

    Thank you. I use American Cut on Saxophones and European cut I’m Clarinet. I really like the American coach on baritone saxophone. I’ve had a little bit of trouble in general during a heat wave I don’t know if I trust affected anyone else? Thank you for your video please do some more dosh God bless you and yours- Bill - UK

    Thanks Danny, I've been wondering about the new American cut. I've been a 'beginner' for about 2 years, struggling with a Legere classic 2.25 on my sporadic practice sessions, but maybe I should try something softer to get those low notes, and to make the rest sing. (Jean Paul alto with Yamaha 4C)

    • @dannyboylan2342
      @dannyboylan2342  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks for the comment Robyn! If you think 2.25 is about right for you, I might recommend getting the same strength but as a Legere Signature, and then taking advantage of their strength exchange policy if you find it is either too soft or too hard.

    • @dannyboylan2342
      @dannyboylan2342  Před 2 lety

      Hey Nicolas thanks for the comment! This stuff is all very subjective and personal preference, so I couldn't really recommend one over the other for you as what you like and what I like might be different! That being said, I think the signature reed is more versatile and a good bet if you haven't played a legere before. The American is more of a niche reed in my opinion. If you can afford it maybe get both and see which you like better!

  • @Gaz77a

    I find the American cut reed is slightly too wide on the Jody Jazz dv and cuts my lip.
    Do you find this?

    • @dannyboylan2342
      @dannyboylan2342  Před rokem

      Hey Gary! I didn't have a problem with it cutting my lip but yes that reed is definitely the full width of that mouthpiece!

  • @lushlife4
    @lushlife4 Před 3 lety +3

    Hey Danny. Thanks for the vid. Very informative. How would you compare reed strengths with standard cane reeds? Would purchasing the same strength as the cane reeds I buy be ideal or do they tend to be harder/softer than cane?

    • @dannyboylan2342
      @dannyboylan2342  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Smooshy! Thanks for your comment! It really depends on what cane you are playing. I would go online and search for "legere strength chart" and they compare a handful of commonly used cane reed strengths to the different legere cuts. Plus remember that legere has a strength exchange policy if what you end up with is too soft or hard. You can check out my videos on "breaking in legere reeds" and "softening legere reeds" for more info. I don't recommend you mess with the actual softening technique I mention, but I talk about finding the right strength in that video.

      Hey Pedro. I honestly haven't played the American cut in quite some time but my best guess is that low notes would be easier to produce on the signature. Not sure if that is what you meant by "best." Hope that helps some!

      Hi Ro Ma. Reed strength is a completely personal choice and I think I'd be doing you a disservice by recommending one. I would suggest however that you find the Legere reed strength chart online and use it to determine a good strength, based on what type and strength cane reed you play. Hope that helps some!
