There is a point where there is not adherence at all, I was that day on the highway and my car was going to the sides, other cars where losing control and crashing close to me, and people here knows really well what is winter... anyways, pumping the brakes works, but going down in a hill doesn't help very much, and if I am not wrong, I think the Kia Soul taxi is AWD, I guess that really helped him. Anyways, we have to be careful. (Sorry for my english, it's not my first language)

This was published in the Wall Street Journal on Dec 6th. Winter tires are mandatory from Dec. 15th to Mar. 15th in Quebec, I'm not saying these vehicles didn't already have them on or that winter tires would have stopped them in these conditions. I do know winter tires make a big difference though as I use them in Alberta. In Alberta we can get snow storms as early as October and as as late as May. Do they even make winter tires for busses though? Here is a link for their law.

they do make snow tires for busses but busses are only rear wheel drive and not having a motor in the front makes them hard to steer and the busses should of had chains on if they didnt put winter tires on plus locking up your wheels makes it harder to stop if they didn't the people would of had more control and could have avoided crashing

I was doing 20 kph in a 50 zone which wasn't too fast for the conditions. I did slide when I hit my brakes but went against my instinct and released brakes which in a way made my car come out of the skid and ended up going through the stop sign and after I found "Better" ground, I hit the brakes to stop in the middle of the intersection. At times, you can't do nothing other than not driving the car in such conditions. I had my winter tires on which didn't help like in the video.

It's in Montreal. I live here, i remember this. The snow storm that was expected turned to an ice storm. It was the city's fault bc they are just useless as always and did not put salt during the night. Not everyone has studded tires bc if you ever want to travel to Ontario you'll get fined over there as they are illegal

Well said!! I live in Texas and people from so many other places laughed at our ordeal, yet just last year (2022) people in "winter states" were stranded or locked in their homes. Might be a good idea for people to just not laugh at others' natural disasters lol.

    • @largol33t1

That stupid freak storm was just a blip on the radar screen. It was totally abnormal. If we were to apply the "logic" of those states that bashed us for not being prepared, well, if a freak tornado hit California, should be bash them for not having tornado shelters built ahead of time?
For the last three weeks, TX has recorded 105-108 degree weather. It's FIFTEEN degrees cooler in Las Vegas and that's the desert. Trust me, those people living smugly in those winter states will faint in the heat down here. Saw it happen in college. Was at a summer camp in Oklahoma and it was nowhere near 95 but several people fainted at a morning camp meeting.

So true! I've lived in Reno, NV for many years and we used to get serious snow storms and the temps would drop below zero. In these conditions the roads freeze to a sheet of ice when even the best, experienced driver with snow tires and chains can spin out. It can be amusing to watch this, but absolutely terrifying to experience it.
