416000 Australian soldiers enlisted from a population of a little of a million. 60 000 were killed with 3 out of every 5 men being wounded at least once during the war. We had one of the bigger casualtie rates during the war as a average it was over 65%.
To this day it has left quite a mark on our nation.

The constant assumption that Britain = Good, Germany = Bad is one of my biggest historical pet peeves.
Did the Germans and Austrians commit atrocities in this war? Yes, but so did nearly every warring power, the massacres of German civilians by the Russian army in Eastern Prussia and the British blockade that lead to thousands of German civilians starving comes to mind.
And yes while Germany did bomb London first via Zeppelin then by bomber the British soon retaliated with their own strikes against German cities, whoever did the most damage is debatable.

About "small" Austria-Hungary: Austria-Hungary was geographically the second-largest country in Europe after the Russian Empire, at 621,538 km2 (239,977 sq mi) and the third-most populous (about 52,8 m in 1914 - after Russia and the German Empire). 2:50 "Let me know how you feel about that."
You may want to check your understanding of history before making statements like that.
I know that the image of the "historic" Germany for a lot of U.S. Americans is still shaped by the Nazi era, and here especially in the hindsight of the Holocaust.
I know - and have directly experienced - that there are some Americans - even intelligent and educated in their field ones - who seriously think that World War One was fought against the Nazis.
But that image is wrong. The Imperial Germany of the late 19th and early 20th century wasn't that much different from any other European nation... and even the USA.
Sure... it was a more autocratic system than the United Kingdom... but not as much as Tsarist Russia.
Sure, it was a monarchy, unlike France or the United States... but so was Italy.
Sure, it was a very militarized society, but massive military build-ups did happen all over the world... in the UK, in France, in Russia... and in the USA.
Sure, there were nationalistic and racial discriminatory tendencies in society. But so there were in all of the "good side" nations.
And when you take a look at the map of the world of that time... it wasn't Germany that controlled - and subjugated and exploited - the most part of the world. Even the USA dabbled in colonialism - and not the most benign version - at that time.
This is not meant as a defense of Imperial Germany... in general or specifically regarding WW1. But they weren't solely responsible for the war... that was something that the victorious Entente powers decreed... and they weren't a stereotypical "bad side".

Fun fact: Soldiers are also people, many of them didn’t volunteer and did not want to fight but had no choice (those who refused were convicted of cowardice which was punished by execution) so the difference between soldiers and civilians is that civilians were not forced to be on the front or in the trenches, they were living their lives as you said.

The start of WWI is an excellent example of 'history consists all those things that could not be avoided'.
Alliances intended to prevent war meant no-one could stay out once the dominoes started to topple.

3:30 Back then Austria was one of the most powerful empires in Europe and territorial-wise 8 times larger than it is today.
8:37 Yes, Australia was part of the British empire until 1931. So the Australians were involved too.
14:10 The rigid airships were named after German count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. The album cover of "Led Zeppelin" shows the disaster of the the zeppelin Hindenburg from 1937. The image refers to the origin of the band's name itself: When Page, Beck and The Who's Keith Moon and John Entwistle were discussing the idea of forming a group, Moon joked, "It would probably go over like a lead balloon", and Entwistle reportedly replied, "a lead zeppelin!"

They held out against more powerful nations for far longer than they should have been able to and suffered terribly because of it. As a percentage of the population killed, I don't think any other nation lost more than Serbia.

I think neutrality is, practically, difficult to maintain in its entirety; "neutral" as in not being involved in any way but this is not quite the case realistically. Switzerland was neutral in WW2, but it did offer refuge to the displaced and persecuted during said conflict. This is the case in many other "neutral" countries throughout history in many conflicts. A country can be neutral and still do good in times of hardship in war besides sending troops and such. Some countries might not have been able to do so in the first place. In fact, in times of war, neutral countries provide safe havens for refugees and can be seen as necessary in a wartime environment. Please don't judge such nations too harshly.

I'm right with you. The Sarajevo bombing was just the spark that ignited the war. Root causes are more complicated than that. The colonial rivalry and the desire of the Germans to catch up with the English and the French, the balkans were a powder keg under the tutelage of a declining ottoman empire, the French wanted their revenge of 1871 and recovers Alsace and Lorraine. All these reasons led to a rearmament initiated at the beginning of the 20th century by the German Empire, followed by other European countries.

As a man today I will say we've come leaps & bounds in respect towards "weak men" we now understand an emotional man isn't a weak man rather someone who needs a hand. Where we haven't made progress is accepting that completely while we know it we're not necessarily as forgiving & it's a double edged sword. We see the times we are in now, the men we've started to produce will not do well in hard times when they reach the USA, while the rest of the world is working towards more masculine men we're working towards more feminine men or at least accepting them, which I agree we should accept people as they are. We're in a pivotal point in our country & it will be interesting to see where we go. Not the topic of the video or really the argument you were making but just something I thought I'd comment on.

Gavrilo Princip was a freedom fighter, because in the Balkans until 1918, the Austro-Hungarian Germans allowed slavery over the Orthodox population. The English imperialist world does not see the suffering of other nations if it is not in the interests of the Anglo-fascist regimes. Similar to the Baltic countries, where a third of the population was stripped of their citizenship because they are Russians, and the liberation struggle of the Russians who live in Ukraine, they see as it is in their imperialist interests. Because for centuries they did not have to democratize the media and their regimes, which still, as for centuries, aim to Anglicanize the whole world, regardless of the suffering of other nations. In America, a century ago, the Slavic peoples wanted to establish their own party, but the Anglo-fascist regime began to persecute them with the police, with a corrupt judiciary and bribes, so that they abandon their party and join two English parties, which two bypass everything necessary for democracy worked. The best defense in the English countries is that they constantly emphasize democracy, divert attention so that people don't rebel, because they can't silence everyone by force like they did the Slavic party.
