Nice tie as usual Karl! Thanks! The original recipe calls for "urine-burn fox" dubbing, which is tan with a little pink in it from that area of the female fox that the urine hits. It's actually a pinkish tan. Fine to use other materials but if you want to keep it more authentic, add a few pink fibers in with the dubbing. It's a fairly subtle thing and I was able to buy some back in 1976 when I first started tying. Most of the materials were natural furs and hides and I think I might have ordered it from Kaufmann's Streambornn back then. They have since closed but had a great catalog back then and were a great mail order source. Randall Kaufmann authored a number of great books including his "Tying Dry Flies", which I think is a must have. If you trap a couple of fibers in your whip finish and you haven't cranked it down tight yet, you can often use your dubbing needle to pull then out and then give the final tightening to the whip finish.
Great instructions for tying! Thanks a lot! 👍👍👌

Easy wings! Davie Mcphail uses the same method, thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻

I use unwashed dog hair of my own dog for this fly. Floats better than washed fox.
Whatever works for you!
Nice
