Jokic's genius passing complements Aaron Gordon's positioning and cutting which leads to a lot of easy points, and Gordon's defense helps in covering up Jokic's average defense

Nikola is my guy, but if there is no AG there would not be playoffs for nuggets in 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 would not be a championship year. AG is a perfect teammate for Jokic in every aspect of the game on and of the court. He was in Draymond Green grill once he poked Nikola's eyes, he was cheering for him and Serbia 2 years ago, this year he visited him in Sombor. He took hardest defending tasks in last playoffs. He is not messing around and when nothing works, his cuts with Nikola passes get nuggets easy 10 points ever game.

Jokic knows how to play to AG's strengths. The biggest difference between Magic and Nuggets is that Nuggets have Jokic. You don't need to deal with decision-making in every offense when you have Jokic as your team mate. That alone removed the pressure on AG and he delivered nicely.
But still Magic helped AG's career too. He has good ball handling skills thanks to his bigger role at Magic. This made a huge impact in the last play-offs. His eFG% increased from 50% to 60%, and PPG increased from 14 to 16. 3p% increased from 30% to 35%. He improved himself in literally every department and became an efficiency machine. I am not even talking about defense yet.
I think AG really loves Jokic both on the court and off the court. He literally went to Serbia just to hang out with Jokic. Jokic turned AG's basketball career from a mediocre one to a good and successful one. I don't underestimate the work that AG put in. But you can tell how much AG enjoys playing along with Jokic. In all those interviews, he has a big smile on his face.

He wasn't a bust, but he's not a franchise player. You see that with another #4 draft pick, Jalen Suggs, who plays great defense, but he can shoot a lot better (at least this season.)
The difference between the two is the Magic desperately needed another player to step up with Vooch, but AG wasn't that player. Now the Magic have two stars so Suggs can fit in with them very well.
Same with Gordon. He fits in very well with the Nuggets, in the role he is meant for. I'm super happy for Aaron. Glad he got to go to a team that he can play well with. And despite the trade not being great for the Magic, they did get Gary Harris and a draft pick, so it's not all for nothing.

Gotta love AG! Lots of people are saying Jokic saved his career or made him so much better, of which the latter is true. But I say Michael Malone saved AG's career. The Nuggets aren't for everybody, and you have to buy in to the family aspect heart, soul, and mind. AG has done that and been rewarded. Look at his performance last night, 15pts, 7 rebs, 5 ast and a block. Honestly it was a great night for him. Played solid defense, while being able to create or finish on offense. Really was a factor in the game without eye popping stats. Has become a great team player and glad the guys honored him by letting him speak for the team at the ring ceremony.

They ruined Gordon in Magic in the way they don't let him be him... he lost some time doing something what does not fit him.... I am really happy seeing him satisfied and happy in his role and this is proof that if you give a player position which he knows to play/freedom you will get out of that player 101% and everyone is happy. Gordon is amazing player, just coaches didn't use his abilities in a right way... or they wanted something else from him.. I don't necessarily think Gordon was a bust but he along with Wiggins are great examples that show NBA franchises need to put their players in the best positions for them to succeed and not think of draft position as heavily as they do. Wiggins was taken #1 and wasn't quite living up to being a #1 overall pick but he was able to be the 3rd best player on a championship team and really their X-factor that playoff run. Gordon was the same for the Nuggets this past year. An issue with the way teams draft is they expect top 10 picks to be 20 PPG efficient scorers that can create their own offense and sometimes that isn't what the player is best suited for. They try to fit a square peg in to a round hole and force these players to take on roles they aren't suited for then everyone calls them busts. They operate best as a swiss army knife do it all type wing, not primary ball handler 20+ PPG scorers that create their own offense. Teams force that bigger role on them and they don't do as well. Then they get traded to teams that they aren't forced to do too much on (Nuggets have Jokic, Warriors with Steph) and they thrive. I think more teams need to consider these kinds of things and not force a role on a player that they really aren't suited for. Gordon and Wiggins are just the most recent examples.

Perfect example of why people need to do away with the term bust because we’ve seen plenty of times where it’s not the player it’s the position the player is put in that tells what they’re capable of. Plenty of players not given the proper opportunity referred to as bust

    • @Cardb33
      @Cardb33 Před 6 měsíci +3

I think it's more about players being given too big of a role especially when drafted high. Teams don't want a 15-18 PPG/6 RPG/3 APG player if they drafted them in the top 10. They want that player to become a ball handler who can create his own shot and score 20+ a night while playing top level defense night in and night out. That kind of player is way more rare than teams seem to think they are. Guys like LeBron, KD, Kawhi, Jimmy and Tatum for example. Teams need to allow players to be themselves and not force them in to roles they have no chance of playing to the level expected of them.

To basically develop a completely different approach at the game physically and mentally.

Ion know about him being the second most impactful player on the nuggets, Jamals shot creation and passing is too good for that. But as the third best player on a championship ring is nothing to scoff at

how can you call somebody who was the face of a NBA team for years a bust? Aaron Gordon was never considered a bust by anyone.

  • @warhund

AG is awesome, he simply didnt have enough good players at Orlando and he is not a primary ball handler and a playmaker himself. If he has to do an ISO play from time to time he is great but if he has to do it most of time then he will get scouted and he wont be good enough at it because he is awesome at the rim, good at midrange and not good enough at contested 3s. His playmaking is not good enough to find fast and creative solutions and his handling is decent but not on a level required for a primary option and a point forward.
With all that said I knew he was going to be awesome in Denver because I have seen how good Denver was with Jokic and Faried. On the attack Gordon is as good if not even better than Faried because of bigger presence and on the defence they cant be compared because Gordon is both a larger body and a way more skilled defender.
So yeah, the perfect fit in every aspect of the game but also he seems to be a great guy, just a nice person and that also fits great with Jokic and the entire Denver team.

Wait people actually said Aaron Gordon was a bust?? The lowest I saw him as, was a solid role player off the bench. How?

Aaron Gordan was never a bust, the Magic cannot develop players, that's why majority of the players that leave the Magic ended up with amazing success and a ring. This is a product of management not the player themselves.

Lmaoo thats cap Aaron Gordon has never been a bust I’ve never been a Magic or Nuggets fan nor am I a fan of AG but if you watch his early playing days his coach didn’t utilize him right. That team was t very good and for a team that had no Superstars with one All-star that in my opinion was a Pity selection cause of the lack of Player development not to mention they Drafted AG as the 4th pick and only gave him 23min per game and still had 4thbest PPG on the team only getting to start 37games out of his total 78 had the 2ndbest Rebounds on the team and was played as a wing player reason he succeeded on the nuggets is they use him the right way(plays Pf mostly around the elbow Aka free this line His Athleticism was t use in Orlando they were trying to make him a stretch Sf in Orlando hoping for a Lebron or Giannis but his strength Is pick and roll Pf yes he can shoot the three but Orlando was Forcing a play-style that didn’t fit even in college he wasn’t a Perimeter SF. Point is he is able to shine when he has a coach and team that knows how to utilize his strength that got him drafted in the lotto as he should’ve been So no Aaron wasn’t a bust The Orlando magic coaching staff and player devolvement was a bust. But what do I know lol it’s just an opinion Pls people respond nice I’ll gladly debate you but let’s Keep it Classy and respectful. Love to All NBA fans I hope y’all’s team Is making y’all happy this season.

The Magic actually thought they could turn Gordon into Paul George. This was mainly based on his size and athletic ability, but not his skillset. They thought getting him a shooting coach could turn him into Paul George. Orlando just can't develop players. Gordon probably would've had a higher ceiling on another team that used him right
