- Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday, and we wanted to share a Superb Owl! Tootsie, a Northern Saw-whet Owl and Raptor-in-Residence here at the Alaska Raptor Center, is one of our cutest residents!
Northern Saw-whet Owls are small, nocturnal, and can be difficult to spot. During the day, they roost in dense vegetation, typically just above eye level and near the trunk in evergreen trees.
Melt my heart. She does well with only 1 eye.
What happened to the other eye?

Tootsie is just the cutest little owl. I went to the raptor centre recently (southern hemisphere) and saw Harrier Hawks and native owls, Morpork. The one I saw also had only one eye, damaged by a motor vehicle. Luckily it was rescued and nursed back to health again. Most birds there had been hit by vehicles after going for road kills. Great work saving these precious creatures 💖

One of the reasons why I love Owls so much is because you always know where they're looking. It's also because their eyes are literally stuck in place, which is why they can do a complete 180 turn with their heads to look around themselves.

All animals have the capacity to show affection... and interest in there caregivers! So grateful that she appeared to not be shutdown. Hopefully she can have a companion at some point all animals need that.
