    A major advantage of the Ricoh for causal users that want to use Lightroom but don’t want to pay the subscription is that you can edit the DNGs for free.
    To edit Fuji’s raw files you have to pay.

    I was wondering, are you going to keep both the Fuji X100VI and Ricoh GR IIIx? Or are you still planning to sell one of them?
    Basically looking for some kind of review of both I guess. Though I wouldn't mind owning both as well.

    • @po.ntandshoot
      @po.ntandshoot  Před 9 dny +2

      I expected the GR IIIx to become obsolete after buying the X100vi, but the longer I own the Ricoh, the more attached I become. It has a very different use case as a pocketable point and shoot. Don't get me wrong, the Fuji can sit comfortably in a jacket pocket, but it's a camera I choose when I've planned a trip or an event. I've even done some paid work with it already. So, yes, keeping both (for now) !

      This weekend? Lucky you! I've yet to make a video about camera settings, so it's a bit out of my POV comfort zone, but I'm considering it.
      I switch between 2 custom settings, saved on the top dial:
      The first one (for 90% of my shots) is a single point focus with continuous wide tracking (ISO and Shutter speed set to Auto with a minimum base), so all I'm changing while shooting is the aperture wheel and exposure compensation toggle.
      The second is snap focus mode (for rapid fire street photography) set to a distance of approx. 2m. Like the first custom setting, I usually just change the aperture and exposure compensation if required.
      The above is probably unclear, apologies. Maybe I should make a video.

    Great video! I finally got my hands on a X100VI and I honestly am in a weird place on it. I do like the EVF, better AF and shooting experience, but I really am spoiled by my GR IIIX. The weight difference is pretty jarring going between each camera. I find myself hesitant to bring the Fuji anywhere just because of how much less portable it is and sweating the idea of breaking something while Fuji doesn't seem to be doing repairs on them right now (makes sense with the production issues).

    • @po.ntandshoot
      @po.ntandshoot  Před 15 dny +1

      'Weird place on it' accurately describes how I feel. Given I swapped the X-Pro 3 + 23mm f/2 out for the X100VI, I find the size very small / good. It's the image quality that I'm not sold on entirely, and the fact that the GR IIIx has spoilt me as you mentioned.

      @@po.ntandshootTotally. I honestly would have preferred the X-Pro2/3 if it weren’t for the insane used prices + the screen issues on the 3. I’m on the fence with the quality as well, I’ve been going out with both and find that I like the GR’s lens more and the Fuji’s film sim options more. Torn!

      @GhosT396 Před 13 dny +2

      @@po.ntandshoot Strangely enough I bought the GR IIIx to compare to my VI and I'm not seeing this difference in sharpness everyone is going on about. Maybe from minimum focus to around 50cm-1m distance maybe the Ricoh is slightly sharper if the Fuji is kept at F2, but beyond that the Fuji seems to have more detail. Also the Ricoh images seem to be quite a bit more noisy at minimum ISO. I am immensely impressed by the size of the Ricoh but after hearing so much about its sharpness I'm really not seeing it.

    • @po.ntandshoot
      @po.ntandshoot  Před 12 dny +1

      @@GhosT396 I'd agree that the difference in sharpness is minimal and and doesn't match the online commentary. It's the image quality that I do prefer on the Ricoh, however; the micro contrast and how it deals with shadows/highlights. The difference in noise is pretty significant, I agree. I fell in love with it after about 6 months I'd say, accepting all of its quirks.

    @yawarlol Před 16 dny +2

    How are you liking the two cameras overall? I only just got the x100vi, and already own the gr3x. Honestly, favoring the ricoh. I didn't realize how dense the Fuji was. And it doesn't seem to handle aperature priority as well (always favoring the lowest shutter speed).

    • @po.ntandshoot
      @po.ntandshoot  Před 16 dny +3

      Happy with both, but I agree with your preference. The GR IIIx is the better everyday carry - it's becoming more obvious to me the more I use the Fuji. I also prefer the image quality of the Ricoh. However, the Fuji is more capable and reliable for paid work and other styles of photography (portraiture and landscape), so it has its strengths.

    • @po.ntandshoot
      @po.ntandshoot  Před 16 dny +2

      Regarding aperture priority, are you setting minimum shutter speeds? I agree that it seems to stick close to the minimum, but provided I remember to change the minimum figure / minimum ISO when lighting changes, it works well enough. On occasion I just override it on the top dial.

    • @yawarlol
      @yawarlol Před 16 dny +2

      Yes I do! But I'm realizing I should just assume the "minimum" will be the actual shutter speed haha. Agreed on the Ricoh and IQ. One thing about the Fuji is the inclusion of a flash ❤️, big fan. Still learning the ropes, opinions may change. Thanks for the video and your reply 👍

    Fantastic calm but energetic video capturing the culture and world of Kyoto.
    I’m am deep in the market for a a travel camera. As a flight attendant I’m in a different city every day all around the world. I love capturing the culture and such but carrying a 5d with either a 40 or 50mm has become a chore.
    I still can’t decide between these two cameras.
    What character or unique values does one camera have over the other that makes you reach for it as opposed to the other. Such as which has a lens or sensor that touches closer to what you prefer to see or like more?

    • @po.ntandshoot
      @po.ntandshoot  Před 16 dny +4

      Now that's a tough one to answer, but it sounds like the Ricoh is for you. No other camera can match its quality to size. I prefer the image quality straight out of camera over the Fuji. Given how much you travel, the only drawback is its durability...going from a 5D to the GR...that will take some getting used to. However, provided it's got a snug leather case and it sits snug in your front pocket, it will be absolutely fine.

      When translated in '35mm' terms, the GR III has a focal length of 28mm, while the GR IIIx has a focal length of 40mm. So, the GR IIIx is more 'zoomed' in, making it the preferred choice for photographing subjects.
