- One of the two text to speech rounds that ran on /tg/station Manuel. I promised someone I'd upload this round. No music in this, because it'd defeat the point. Might need to turn your volume up.
One of the developers implemented a high quality AI text to speech into the game for testing purposes. Only a few rounds could have the system enabled, due to the costs and limits behind it, but what was played was fairly interesting.
No, this won't ever become a normal thing for SS13 (probably). At least, not this form of it. It simply isn't maintainable. Don't expect to get on a server and hear text to speech voices. - Hry

Considering most players of SS13 are running PC the equivalent of a pancake, running the AI on the player client instead of a hosted service like this round would be impossible.
Option that can be turned on and off.

preference toggle with it disabled by default.

Reducing the AI model is something that happens all the time. This is when you want to put it onto IoT / electronics that have very little memory/disk space like smart glasses . It will be very efficient but there will be quality reduction .
@@evilgibson Yeah, but we don't need perfect speech emulation either. It's ss13. As long as people can yell "FUCK", or "THE FUCKING CLOWN TOOK MY LEG" we'll be fine.
Dall E Mini? Maybe not. Dall E proper? It's already being done. Dall E Mini is only public because its a little deranged. Dall E Proper is not public and is actually quite confidential because of how photorealistic it has become. Training such an algorithm for speech would be childs play at this point.
Whether it would be machine efficient however... Can't really say.
@@amergingiles Hence the Dall-e mini. It's not resource intensive. The reason this isn't able to be done normally is due to the high server costs of running speech algorithms. If reduced, it'd be quite fun to imagine.

That’s pretty cool, I’ve always had trouble keeping up with reading everything, making it hard to play the game for me. This would make interactions much easier to follow!

the TTS has moments where it just sounds right... or just cursed. only if it was an affordable feature. Hey, if one of us offered a kidney, testicle or lung, we could get this one day.
