We had one full day in Zurich, Switzerland, and I wanted to make the most of it by going on a Swiss food tour, eating as much food as possible, and walking around and seeing some of the most famou sights and attractions in the beautiful city of Zurich.
Here are all the details about everything you’ll find in this video:
Zürich, Switzerland
Café Henrici - To begin the day for Swiss breakfast, we stopped to have a cup of coffee, and also I wanted a croissant, but they were all out of the morning already, so I settled for a few small slices of bread. It was excellent.
Total price for 3 people - 24.40 CHF ($25.75)
Lindenhof Hill - This is a great place to get a view over Old Zurich, and it puts the city into perspective and helps you get your bearings, and the views are beautiful.
Swiss Chuchi - Thank you to Marcel for this recommendation. In Switzerland for a single day, I needed to eat one of the most well known of all Swiss food, cheese fondue. At Swiss Chuchi restaurant, we enjoyed both cheese fondue and raclette, both of which were excellent and the most cheese I’ve had in a single meal in a very long time.
Total price - 126 CHF ($132.98)
That included all I ate, and 2 other plates of food.
Grossmünster - This church is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Zurich. For a small fee, you can pay to climb to the top of the tower for an amazing view.
Price - 4 CHF ($4.22)
Lake Zurich - The city of Zurich is surrounds Lake Zurich, which is unbelievably clean and pure.
Kronenhalle Restaurant - This is one of the most legendary and classic restaurants in all of Zurich, Switzerland. I didn’t realized it was so expensive and so high end, but we decided to go for it anyway, because I was looking forward to trying their Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, the most well known of all Zurich Swiss food dishes consisting of thin sliced potato paired with veal stew. It’s quite a stunning dish and the version at Kronenhalle Restaurant was absolutely stunning.
Total price - 126 CHF ($132.98)
Bahnhofstrasse Shopping street
Rheinfelder Bierhalle - To finish off this ultimate Swiss food tour of Zurich in a single day we went to Rheinfelder Bierhalle, a beer hall and restaurant in Zurich. I ordered their specialty, Jumbo Jumbo Cordon Bleu. Cordon bleu is another one of the Swiss food dishes you don’t want to miss when you’re in Zurich.
Thank you very much for watching this Swiss food tour!

The lady’s face in the background watching him eat the “cheese crisp” 🤣
I couldn't help but think the same thing. She is giving him the stink eye!
I thought the se thing and came to the comments to say as much and see if anyone else mentioned it, lol.
yeah, best image in the video !
And hat "cheese crisp" is called "La réligieuse" - and you don't break it !
U see it too
hey ,that is my wife!
One good thing of Mark he never left any food in his dish
I thought it was extremely pricey for some stale bread and melted cheese, and not a lot of food.
Tammey L Jones Jones I heard these Nordic countries are super expensive
@@socallawrence Switzerland is not a nordic country but its for sure one of the most expensive in central europe

@Yurded Mhams-Kaant yws
I am from Zurich:
1. The fondue place is a tourist rip off. not the best quality, small portions and well expensive.
2. Kronenhalle is very good but also insanely expensive, it is where the rich go and eat and normally 50+ age. One of the top restaurants in Zurich, but rather oldfashioned.
3 . And the last restaurant (Bierhalle) where he had the jumbo cordonbleu was actually a very good choice. There are not many tourists there and it is classic swiss quality food where the locals go to eat. for Zurich the prices are also okay, they have an expensive location right at the beginning of Niederdorf. thumbs up
Ich bin fu zürioberland
If you're a GCZ fanatic, you've commited war crimes!
As a swiss studying in Zurich who has never been in the Swiss Chuchi, but thoght about going there once every time I walk by, I might agree now that it's a tourist rip off. If you're able to eat a second lunch only one hour after Fondue AND Raclette, it wasn't enough. After a Fondue (which I love, but rarely eat in a restaurant because it's much cheaper and just as good self made), I'm usually knocked out for the next few hours and wouldn't even think about eating something.
if a person plan to visit swiss, where he could find cheap places for living and for food
@@islampurswatkadhishawl4115 For cheap food, the best is to go to a supermarket and buy something there. For relatively cheap (compared to other swiss prices, it might still be expensive for foreigners), you might find some Take Away food near universities, schools or at train station. For living, I can't really help, I would recommend comparing prices online.
Moral of the story:
Zurich is very expensive city.
But you get clean “fresh cool Swiss water” that tastes really good for free. 1:49
the thing is also: water from the fountains is usually non-potable ...
Mark gets pepper sprayed..
Mark: Woww
LOOOOOOOOOL
Its incredibly good, its very peppery, but in a good kind of peppery, i like it
😂😂😂😂
Hahahahahahahaha
🤣🤣🤣
Mark does not love everything he eats. If you pay close attention you will note that Mark is a very respectful person. Even if he doesn’t love a dish, he will point out and describe to us the tastes, and different textures of the dish. He’s got a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Visiting countries around the world and educating us on a country’s food culture. Job well done Mark. The fondue looked so delicious!!! I want so much to try it. Thanks!
I know exactly when he is loves it he has a sort of a "foodgasm" eyes go up and his head tilts to an angle towards his left. LMAO
Jeah you can see that he not enjoys the cheese dishes THAT much. (for example all the spices he adds) im swiss myself and know, that fondue and raclette isnt for everyone. Im glad he enjoyed the city tho.
our country isn't all too special when it comes to culinary delights. but i can tell you we absolutely have the cheese dishes nailed. if you ever visit, my tipp to you would be to try raclette first. it's absolutely godly. slice open a potato and put the melted cheese over it. also, always add a slice of bacon into the pan on top of the cheese. you will love it. try fondue after the raclette. i love it just as much but the cheese is usually a bit more intense.
let me know if you ever wanna come. i will go with you and whomever you're bringing with you. see you!
@@themightypotato3857 I'd love experience that
I love Swiss fondue. I think Mark prefers more spicy flavours.

I am not sure if you did not know or just did not mention it, but eating at Kronenhalle is like eating in an Art museum: Besides of the high-quality food, you are surrounded by an Art collection, including original pieces of Picasso, Miro, Chagall or Giacometti.
AND, SO ARE YOU THERE TO EAT OR LOOK AT ART????I AM NOT IMPRESSED 🤨, A MUSEUM DOES NOT CHARGE $100.

That is very very important to us, thanks and I wished he had the funds so we could know the best they have to off
Swiss guy here. The last place you went to was crazy expensive. 8.50chf for a salad ? It's the most expensive I've seen. Zurich IS one of the most expensive places in Switzerland. But still that was too much. I hope you enjoyed it though.
But to the people in the comment section : If you come to Switzerland, please try the restaurants that are not in the middle of the cities. If you get the chance to travel by car, stop in villages. The cuisine is more authentic and way cheaper than that.
To Mark, I'm so happy you came to Switzerland. Thank you for another great video
Genthios _ haha I don't know why salad is so expensive here, the fondue restaurant: chicken salad, 25$ XD
Genthios _ I wonder if there are any homeless in Zurich ?
Genthios _ I live in Zurich, and I’d love to know where you go eat where side salads cost less than 8 francs. I agree that 8.50 for a little salad is ridiculous, but that’s absolutely normal pricing here for a sit down restaurant.
Joy Zhang like in every city, yes, there is also a high grade of poor people in Switzerland who can't survive with their earnings without getting help from organisations (food, clothes, pay the bills...) but you won't see or hear about them, it's highly a shame here to be that poor so you don't talk about... jeah.
yes there are some homeless people in zurich.

At the fondue (10:56) I love the disapproving looks as Mark goes animal-style using his fingers, eating off his dipping fork and jamming huge quantities of food in his mouth!!! Love it!! Great vid!!! 19:00 the server is so elegant and Mark eats like his normal cave-man: huge bites, dripping, leaning over his plate, food dripping off his fork.
To me he's the most enjoyable food host in the world. I just love the way he eats, describes the food - he loves almost everything, & he explains things clearly.
Zurich isn’t cheap, but you don’t have to spend 126 francs per meal. Swiss Chuchi is a tourist trap (apparently makes competent fondue, but locals never go there), and Kronenhalle is one of the most expensive restaurants in the city (the bar literally has Picassos on the wall). In contrast, the Rheinfelder Bierhalle at the end is a favorite among locals, including me. (I was there just last week.) It’s affordable, down to earth, serves generous portions, provided by salty staff. It’s been famous for its giant cordon bleu for the better part of a century. (But you have to fast the whole day to be hungry enough to finish it at dinner, it’s so big!)
salty staff means something negative?
Thanks for that information. I will be visiting Zurich next month.
@zohaf
Salty as in "you need a good sense of humor" and be quick with your answers. ;) If you've ever been in local folklore bars in Europe you'd know what I mean. LOL
lol sorry 'salty' is often used by americans so i asked. never felt so slow in my life haha thx
Antonio Tejada however the alps are magnificent
300 grams of cheese, meat, sausage, bread, chocolate wafers and chocolate mousse in one day. Mark, I want your metabolism!
He walks a lot and does sit ups and push ups every day. I think he does burpees too
What percentage was the tipping?
RandysVids what's burpees?
AKA constipation heaven. Bits of each are lovely as a treat, but for me I'd need fruits, veggies, fiber, vinegar, spices and probiotics to get that stuff moving.
Kanupriya Jaireth Um when you Burp!?
In case nobody said it already the restaurant where you ate your second lunch is famous for its expensive art they even have pictures from Picasso or Chagall
Some of Which the painters gave to the owner to pay for the food.
Mark: "Zurich is such an expensive city"!
Oslo: "Hold my Kroner"!
Oslo! Sympathizers of Hitler. Switzerland.... you ain’t alone!
Honestly, I'm swiss and everyone I know eats the fondue bread straight from the fork
DarkRainb0wKnight good to know :D

How do you afford to live there? all the food so expensive

babosing luckily we earn enough in Switzerland so we can afford that.
Who else came to the comments section just to see if anyone commented on 11:00 ? anyone? the lady behind mark.........
That stare is actually quite common in Switzerland. The Swiss are as fucked up as their food prices and their language

Michelle Park
Hi Michelle! Greetings! Can u please tell me if that body of water Mark is in at the end is a River?????????➖
I really would 💜 to visit one day.......
s125ish because it's a high tourist city. Same in every high tourist city everywhere in the world
@s125ish it's not affordable for locals if you're not a high payed manager or banker, but Zürich is the town where those rich people work, so it will work for the restaurants. I have to work 2 days for one meal, so, no, I grab a piece of bread at home and eat this for lunch :D
Watching you experiencing Zurich for your first visit and to see you thoroughly enjoy the food is a treat ! I love Switzerland. The Swiss are very friendly, approachable, and generous. I will offer this suggestion for your future food forays: always ask the locals which restaurants they go to. You will find the best foods at reasonable prices.
I lived in New Orleans, NYC, and Washington, DC for decades. I am always more than happy to direct tourists to the restaurants that I enjoy. You don't have to break the bank to eat well in any city throughout the world. People who live in destination cities are always happy to point you to the good places and they ( we ) are also happy to direct you away from the " tourist traps".
Enjoy your journeys and eat well!!
Randy
Well said however the Swiss he came across seemed Pretentious for no reason, I WAS NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL.
The Swiss don’t like Americans.
Mark, I am Swiss great you love our food. A little request for your next fondue. You pinch the bread with the fork and deep into the fondue. Enjoy!
Whenever he eat something, his eyes popped out 😯😯😯
I see a lot of criticism about the service personal and the prizes so I thought to give some input.
1. friendliness in service is a thing of luck. I had bad experiences and awesome ones. At least you are not expected to tip if you don’t want to.
2. Switzerland is expensive. And Zurich is the most expensive city next to Geneva and Lucerne.
If you have to look after your money, don’t eat in Zurich. Get a Hotel in a city next to it, eat there and just make a trip to Zurich. Switzerland is small so you can reach nearly every major city in no time. Public transport is one of the best all over the world too.
3. I can‘t stress it enough: only visit Zurich for a daytrip. Instead, discover the beauty of Switzerlands countryside and smaller cities and villages. You‘ll be pleased.
People tend to forget that, apart from maybe Luxemburg, the Swiss earn the highest wages world wide.
I wouldnt say, that Locarno & Ascona in South Switzerland (Tessin) is any less expensive but feels a bit more italian xD
I was in Lucerne and Geneva a couple of years ago on a training course. The prices were astronomical. It made me think of Gulliver's Travels, although the difference is wealth rather than height. I was in Tunisia just a few months before and I felt like a millionaire! I was richer than almost everyone - a few months later in Geneva I felt like a pauper - looking in shop windows at Items that would take a lifetime of earnings to afford.
@@ursstuber5810 I'm there in a few weeks, 5 days all. Zurich, please list me all the non turist trap eats.

7. Pita(pie)
8. Karadjordjeva šnicla
Please try that ☺️🇷🇸

I'm Swiss and I eat Fondue straight off the fork, like everyone I've ever seen. The potato is for the Raclett, like you did on second raclett portion. A fondue tradition is to put an egg into the fondue pot when the cheese is all gone and fry it on that crust.
Dude, you are awesome :D
Does it matters , lol , i find thats a waste of time
Good to know, about the egg 😃

Mark: It made me proud to see you in Switzerland, after following you around Asia and the rest of the world. Unfortunately the two restaurant you've picked for lunch are either a tourist trap or extremely expensive. As I say: when you're finished your wallet is as empty as your stomach. To enjoy real good swiss food, you have to go out to the country side. There you will really enjoy typical home made swiss food, like you show us in other videos arount Thailand or Japan. Next time you plan a trip to CH contact me or any swiss guy you know. But make sure he is a local ;-)
Claudio Casanova could u recommend some local restaurants for me? I’m a foreigner living in Switzerland but never felt I found the right place to eat!
like he said he had only 1 day so he probably went to the nearest restaurant.
@Usama Fayyaz depends on your standard. difficult under 3500 chf, easy over that!
I mean, nothing wrong with going to a fancy restaurant like Kronenhalle. Just be aware it's a fancypants restaurant. You're paying for the atmosphere, not for the food.

I'm Swiss and don't be put off to travel here because of the prices. You can eat a lot cheaper than Mark did if you go to the right restaurants (which are less touristy) plus Zurich is even for us Swiss quite expensive so you can go to another city within Switzerland if you want to spend a bit less.
IanMcCansey -that's cool..thanks for sharing your knowledge
IanMcCansey
Yes and No.
Look a receipt.... One bottle Mineral water..... 9.50sfr ! ?
This is not normal.
Yeah only reason prices are somewhat high is because the income and expenditure in Switzerland is, for lack of a better term, inflated. Meaning prices are high and wages are also high.
IanMcCansey ...do you know...places ..cheaper to stay and to eat in Switzerland ....i am shocked..to see the price of water..
Where to eat the best fondue and raclette in Zurich
The restaurant at the end seems superb! I am looking forward to that when I go there. Love your videos❤️
THANKS MR MARK FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR US 👍🏾❤️
I loved the way you enjoyed the Fondue and Raclette, on a fairly warm day too ! You mixed the ingredients perfectly and the look on your face when shoving those melted cheese portions into your mouth - priceless.
Traditionally that dish is eaten only during winter. You can imagine, after a day out in the mountains skiing, coming home all exhausted and chilled, that hos fat cheese is the perfect meal to regain lost calories and because a Raclette dinner takes so long (melt cheese, scrap it out on plate, mix it with your potatoe, spices, veggies, eat it in 2 bites....rinse repeat many times...) when you go to bed you are so satisfyingly stuffed with delicious creamy melted cheese and potatoes you sleep like a baby.

Love and respect from Kashmir.
P.S.- You should visit Kashmir sometime, you will not be disappointed.
Yeah Kashmir is like the crown of India .
Kashmir was in India ,is in India and will be in India until there is sun in the morning sky :) . So shed off your false delusion as quick as you can dear
You know your talented when you make toast and jelly seem delicious!
I love watching your videos, Mark! And quite amazed that you were able to bring your kid and wife with you! Means no one gets left behind! Love to see the 3 of you still doing this and your baby is grown up! Please do a video like a behind the scenes if travelling with wife and kid. That would be funny haha. Much love from PH!
I love that Micah's palate is probably more sophisticated than his peers because of this dad's career! It encourages other children to eat something besides plain pasta or kid's meals. That's a very good thing!
I always love looking at the people’s faces in the background while he reacts to the food. It’s hilarious. 😂
😅😅😅😅😅
I love the fact that you take your family everywhere that you go. How sweet
Ahhh, the Swiss cuisine, i love this nation. Raclette and Fondue are so wonderful
Mark always shows how to enjoy life just by keep accepting whatever comes your way.
If Ying is recording, she's good at it.
It's only traditional to eat it directly from the long fork. Trust me, I'm from Lucerne. 😉

Hahhaha! In Switzerland and Germany people stare like that lol, it's weird but nothing personal they just do lol
@@erikaahc4718 it's true. If you do something unusual, people will stare. And there aren't that many foodbloggers/CZcamsrs in Switzerland. (not even in Züri8
Micha is the CHILLEST baby ever!

Lovely clean country, that’s somewhere I can see myself going-:))
Beautiful presentation ! Took me back to my trip through Switzerland, though Zurich was just a short stop to change trains ! Zurich for sure in my next trip.

Very delicious episode .. I am from Germany so this episode brings back many good memories of Europe
MARK EATS HIS AND EVERYONE ELSE'S. HE DIGS THROUGH EVERYTHING. THE PEPPER BIT IS JUST STUPID. IF HE KNEW HOW GOOFY HE LOOKS WITH HIS ONE BITERS.
I see a lot of hard work, a lot of passion, a lot of love and a lot more clarity in each and every video of yours. No matter which country you are shooting from , rich or poor, you still respect the local culture in all the right ways. Keep up the great work and I hope you get a million more subscribers on CZcams.
