    as munro converges toward a common approach to evaluating a car's adas abilities, i hope it includes an objective component that puts all cars through a standard set of driving situations and also includes a qualitative review, in which the munrovian explains how comfortable and safe they felt while driving on the car's highest adas level.

The road comfort and noise levels is another thing that messes with my head. I have a BMW m3 and you can feel everything including the speed. But with this one 80 feels like 50. Amazing job by BMW. Excited for the Neue Klasse EV's from them!

    I have a slightly older version of this ADAS suite in a 2021 BMW iX3 since December and let me tell you it works wonderfully. Never warning me with phantom dangers (worst offender in my limited experience: Audi Q5 & A6). At the same time it did warn me several times in situations I would qualify myself as dangerous and requiring full driver’s attention. Also worth noting that the systems visibly improved with a Spring ‘22 software update. I bet the i4’s software will further improve too.

    • @i2010FSL
      @i2010FSL Před rokem

      I4 and iX3 Adas Systems are identical in relative to hardware / Sensors … both from 2018, SW might be different, also depending on trim. The tested package appears to be the top trim, since it includes overtaking / lane changing. Would be interesting to compare i4 and iX, the latter is to my knowledge the only BMW with a SP 2021 Hardware Setup. SP = Service Pack. SP 2018 is older EQ4 Mobileye Processor, where as SP 2021 is current generation Mobileye EQ5 plus additional Intel and Infineon SOCs and MCU.

    I don't recall seeing any mention in any of your reviews of how well the "headlight brightness sensor with on coming traffic" works at night. I've seen complaints about the sensor in some vehicles not reacting quickly enough and thus blinding the on coming traffic. Please consider evaluating that feature in your upcoming reviews. Also, I've seen some imo troubling videos where the Tesla is on a narrow road that has no center line marking with on coming traffic. The driver has to intervene in order to avoid running the on coming traffic off the road. Thanks for putting your reviews on video!

      @victorfrombcn Před rokem +1

      Apples and Oranges. FSD is a beta product which will stay L2. BMW has an upcoming L2+ system coming this year similar/superior than FSD and an L3 coming next year. Both also in Beta, but not publicly available for customers.

      BMWs can maybe perhaps possibly change lanes while Teslas can drive for an hour through towns. BMW will never catch up to this.

    • @victorfrombcn
      @victorfrombcn Před rokem +1

      @@rbassdo No, the i4 won’t support L3. L3 requirements are very high in terms of computing power, sensor array and redundancy. That’s also the reason Tesla FSD will never be L3. There are strict ASIL requirements that Tesla will never meet, specially with the Tesla Vision only-camera setup on their Model 3s and Model Ys.
      For BMW I expect the i7 and iX to be the first to support L3 driving.

    • @victorfrombcn
      @victorfrombcn Před rokem

      @@PatrikSteal Thanks for the video. I’ve watched it fully. I’m still not impressed. The car has managed to switch lanes, stop a traffic lights, and join a highway with some support from the driver. However it’s all done in ideal conditions and without full responsibility. (L2). The car cannot guarantee at any moment that is capable independently of driving the vehicle and face any unexpected emergency situation. I know as well that Tesla Vision is incapable of distinguishing far away objects, and still confuses rain with some background trees. And what about foggy or rainy conditions? Or the max speed ? Those are situations where that system is heavily limited. I don’t want to fully dismiss it, because it’s great that Tesla makes it available to customers. However it’s no L3 and will never be. It’s impossible.

    When he was driving, later on, he disengaged the "ADAS" to activate "Distance Driving". When he did, and edged out of his lane, the car chimed and a message said to "stay in his lane". Mike accepted this as a passive system as opposed to an active system. For me, as a driver, I would rather have the car keep itself in its lane, rather than hearing a "chime", (that sounds identical to other warnings), and then taking your eyes off the road long enough to read a message about what that chime was for. I give that feature a downgrade.

A Tesla can't start and stop automatically on traffic lights, engage the driving assistant automatically after a lane change, have a tolerance in speed limits (like add +6 on speed limits), show in how many miles a speed limit change appears. Tech wise, a Tesla has no radar which causes all sorts of problems (vision only was a huge mistake, hence the new ones are going back to radar systems), a Tesla has no capacitive steering wheel. Having to wiggle the steering wheel is ancient technology. Boy, I can go on and on.

    Maybe the collision warning setting is on a European scale. Traffic is so much tighter and quicker and people generally react faster, so I don’t think a setting like that would be universal between continents.

    • @VoxelLoop
      @VoxelLoop Před rokem +2

      In my experience, the follow distance in mainland Europe is usually higher than in the US. There's a heck of a lot of rear end 'domino' collisions in the US due to so few people keeping a good follow distance. :)
      Of course it should be the same worldwide really, a car can stop just as fast or slow on asphalt in the EU or US.

    • @pklimbic
      @pklimbic Před rokem +1

      @@VoxelLoop I observed in the US, especially outside New York City is, is that people just won’t pay attention at all. I have seen crashes happen in slow Mo, one person changing lanes on a 5 Lane Highway without looking, the other person honking, and over what seems like a minute or two they slowly slowly crash into each other. I spent 12 years living in the Boston area, so I do have some experience, also driving in California in the Midwest. Let’s just say this: if you change lanes in the Midwest that way you’ll change lanes in Germany, France, or Italy, people will honk at you and have a heart attack. The “processor speed” it’s just so much lower, but that is fine, I don’t mind the relax driving, as long as people pay attention. Every place has its own style. When I go to Eataly with my car, I switch off collision detect all together, The wise I wouldn’t manage driving through a roundabout without slowing down traffic in general. After moving back to Europe after 12 years, it took me a month or so to reassess my clock speed and have more confidence and other drivers.
