I have ridden my horse through this area many times. Prescott is a beautiful place to live. So is Dewey!
It used to be a great place to live. I was born and raised in Prescott . When the city became incorporated it was over! All the Californians came and ruined it, my lineage goes back to my great, great great grandfather worked for Wyatt earp and his brother, they worked which is now "thumb butte park" which was where the Earp's had a small sawmill, my dad told me. It was never called " horse thief basin " until the press changed it to that. I have a lot of history about Prescott but sadly it's gone. I remember apple orchards, dairies, three or four stoplights , NO WALMART etc. I remember when the train ran through. And the city council buried the trolley, which ran from the top of Gurley all the through town and to the VA . My city is gone but have great memories. Peace.
Good idea leaving your dog in the car. No need to be packing a bear snack on your back-that goes for cougars too!
Taking the road less traveled has made all the difference!
Yay! Now we’re Jeeping!
"Jeeping" ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉😊
Yay you're the first person I heard say Prescott correctly in a long long time even people that live here have forgotten 😂
The bush with the reddish branches is a manzanita. An interesting thing about them is that the leaves grow pointing up and down instead of horizontally. That is so the leaves are less exposed to the hot sun.
Your inner peace radiates , that's why I love watching your videos , hope all is well and keep being you cuz your great!!!
❤ you’re taller than I am Sara. I’m only 5 foot 4 3/4.❤❤
What I absolutely enjoy and always look forward to seeing is the love, reverence and contentment reflected in your eyes, smile and those silent moments when you breathe it all in..💐
Continued safe and awesome travels; good health to you and the little one.🥂
Thank you!
Dang that's a well maintained dirt road. Another great video Sarah!
A good spot for a rock concert!
Prescott mountains are gorgeous. Passed thru them when we were going to Cottonwood to bury my son. He lived in Cottonwood and was quite successful. Wait until you get towards Jerome! Magical! I had never felt so at peace there. I think you’re going to really like it there. If you do go there….i hope you do! 🙂🙂
I do that drive from Prescott to Jerome it is beautiful.. I live in Prescott..You should take Jerome to Williams.. right there in Jerome where the fire department is at that turn take that road straight, it goes right by the fire station it's called Perkinsville road. I do it about twice a month.. it's pretty rough as in bumpy so air down to about 18 or 20 lb if you can. ..
Beautiful Country!
Is there fishing?
Ah, bass and typical warm lake varieties!
Love the first line ..."sometimes you just have to find a dirt road" ... couldn't agree with you more. Great scenery. Thx for sharing.
Looks like the road is well maintained for an off highway mountain road. Nice drive with beautiful views. Hope the temperatures and wind were just right!
Brown bears and black bears. It's been said to carry bear spray and wear tinker bells while hiking to avoid surprising them. When they're not visible they can also be identified by their sign. Black bear sign contains crushed up berries and small animal bones. Brown bear sign contains crushed up tinker bells and carries a strong odor of bear spray.
🤣🤣
Thanks for showing Horse Thief Basin. I loved in AZ for 32 years, and traveled I-17 hundreds of times. But, I never had the means to go backcountry. I appreciate you.
Purple and red branches are probably manzanita bushes. A protected species.
Yes, the purple/red branches are manzanita. Hard wood - Makes a great, hot campfire with even sparkles and pops because of oil in the leaves! :)
Looks like there may have been a not too distant forest fire there. The trunks are black and some don't have tops. But it is still strikingly beautiful.
There's been lots of fires in that area.
Wasn't expecting the lake, did a double-take. WILD animals never know the rules. A good call.
That’s a beautiful lake and it looks natural not man made. The last time I was in Prescott NF I was camped at White Spar campground and just before I was ready to climb into my truck to go to bed I was visited by three Javelina, just hanging out as if to welcome me to their beautiful home. I was such a great experience and one of the highlights of my trip. I now believe the Javelina is my spirit animal😊. Thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed Glad for power steering 😊
I also love driving on backroads. A couple of years ago my brother and I took Road 34 from Cedarville, Ca to Gerlach, Nv. Best part of that drive was seeing some wild Mustangs and enjoying how quiet it was. We wanted to see the Fly Geyser, but the gate was locked up. We drove right by where the Burning Man Festival takes place every year. I know that Wonderhussy goes there every year. I will be looking forward to your next adventure.
Very beautiful. Thank-you for taking reasonable precautions.
Beautiful scenery❤❤❤
You are living the dream. Thanks for sharing.
Simply beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing
I've been chased by a wild bear in west Virginia , not fun! Animals get my respect, people have to earn it!
Profound words! You expressed the internal experience of this lifestyle beautifully. 💚
That is the best maintained forest service road i have seen in a long time. The 2 forest service roads that resemble that drive have what we call blowouts where it is fine powdery sand. Once and a while i will drive those 2 roads in my van. Its tricky but I have confidence in my skills. Used to drive a water truck up and down stuff like that all the time. Safe travels for you and little one. Before i forget, once i get to the top of those two roads you can see the black hills on a good clear day 😊
They just fixed this road actually 🙂
What a beautiful area, surprised there's no one else around, maybe the bears got them! LOL
Beautiful lake thanks
Welcome to my home from home town 😊
You can get along way's down the road with a slow measured assent!
What a beautiful adventure, thanks for taking us along.
Good call on being cautious.
I have been up there and walked around the lake and got back to my vehicle and saw a guy coming out of the woods with his dogs and they had a mountain lion tree'd and he was going to get back up.
There's no better place to be! Thanks for the ride. 🖖
I'm going up by White horse lake to camp all week. My favorite place up there is Sycamore Point..
I'm going to have a happy time 🍄🤪
The good thing about being with other people in a Bear encounter is, you don't have to outrun the bear jest the slowest person. Good job on the video, nice find. stay safe run like hell thank you.
I'm a 3rd generation native of Arizona. The Bradshaws have a ton of family history. We also had history in the Payson area. Imagine camping in the Bradshaws in the 50s and 60s...no body. Ghost towns still had buildings.
Stay safe out there. It's dry and windy. Fire potential is off the charts.
One more old words of wisdom if you fall off a mountain. It not the fall that will get you it's the sudden stop at the bottom.
Excellent drive, thank you😎⭐️🤩
Breathtaking country , great episode
You must live in Prescott
No, I was just visiting the area
I looked it up on the map, and there is a forest service Horse Thief lookout tower about 3.5 miles further up the road. It would be a fantastic view of the area from up there. The lake is beautiful and I'm glad it is untouched. I feel the same about bears, I don't go into their territory. Those roads can be scary when there is such a drop off and it's one lane.
The bear would know you're not big it will think you're crazy like A Wolverine 😊
Looks Spooky Place !!!!😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Wow, Jeepsy! Thanks so much for doing this video! I haven’t seen that road since I was 12 yrs. old! My best friend and I used to go camping up there with her mom - Bumblebee, Crown King, Horsethief Basin. I remember it fondly. Thanks so much!! 😊
You're in my nick of the woods. I Love the Bradshaw Mountains. There's a lot of gold claims up there.
I'm in her area, too, but never been to Horse Thief lake.
@@cynthiastevens6618 Will U Need To Go Lol 😃✌
@@rodpointer2258 Doubt that will happen with 36 miles of dirt road. Have you been?
@@cynthiastevens6618 Yes A Long Time Ago In 94 or 95 😃✌
I've been following you for awhile. In spite of your nerves, this episode is soooo beautiful and relaxing! ❤
Poetic, perfect cadence, feels emotionally and mentally authentic
YOU are REALLY good at this whole CZcams thing!
(I'm 56 f traveling with a truck and 29ft travel trailer😊🎉
Thank you!
Sarah - did you hand-hold you camera while driving or, was it mounted on something. Beautiful video BTW👍
It was mounted
@@wanderingjeepsy Sarah, thanks for the reply. I know you’re busy replying to all of your comments. Question: can you share what mount it is?
You said you have an issue and yet you do it anyway! ❤❤❤❤
That's one thing I need horseshoe thief basin lake. It looks like senator highway that you're driving. From Prescott to Crown King it's a lot of high desert mountain switchbacks real sharks some spots or really tight turns
Love the bullet holes on the sign behind you.
My dad used to log in a place called Horse Thief Basin in Wyoming, and the picture you put on you tube looked alot like the lake at an abandoned summer camp. For a second I thought you were in Wyoming, absolutely beautiful and a great way to start my morning,
Beautiful country. Been to Prescott and Sedona.
Its a beautiful drive for us hippies🤫😁
Nice place to visit, Thanks for the view !!!
Have a great day
What a beautiful find up on top of a mountain!! Love it!
Love your life and choice of vehicle. I hear you on them sidehills…gives me the butterflies too sometimes
So beautiful there ❤❤❤
I love this lifestyle and hope I can do it one day. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
those jeep honor badges are pretty neat!
I get the same feeling about heights. Driving or hiking. It's more of an accomplishment getting through it though.
Reminded me of fond days driving Rampart Range Road in Colorado to go dig for Crystals. Same kind of history about Outlaws and such. Beautiful area Sarah. Check it out if you're ever in that area. If you see diggings on the side of the road look in the piles for the small BEAUTIFUL Smoky Quartz crystals. Sorry the Bear ruined the hike. Best to do what you did. Many blessings
I hope you’re aware there might be other cars coming the other way when you go around them big corners hate to see you in a accident but I am pretty sure you do just looking 👀 out for your well being ❤
It's why I drive slow on these mountains.
your in alanta,ga
Don't let the fear of nature keep you from exploring seeing the sights and enjoying everything at the end of the road! The fact of the matter is there's Wildlife everywhere across this nation all the way to Canada the Arctic and down the South America:-) an example would be you know I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan the up for 8 years off-grid in the wilderness also traveled and lived in Wisconsin and the up thousands of miles through the woods and never seen a bear and yet there were a lot of bears in Michigan I never seen one but I seen their tracks down in the creek bottom a couple of times😊 there's more danger driving the highways or when you're in the cities being burglarized 😊 you're actually much safer in nature,, so carrier a😊😊 pistol and some pepper spray and go😊
I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Wisconsin back woods for many years and never seen a bear! though there were many bears especially in the up in Michigan 😊 if you really feel threatened carry a horn from a boat you can buy them,, they have pressurized air in them and havs a very loud😊 blast. and some bear spray,,or pistol, and then go on your adventures😊
I'm wondering when on those twisty narrow dirt roads do you have alot of people coming head on who aren't paying attention? I especially dislike it when people act like they are the only people on the road. On those blind corners being unable to see around the corner always gets me a little nervous.
It happens all the time on these roads, it's why I just go slow
You know those damn jeeps can be dangerous at highway speeds! Hairpin curves, and lotsa loose gravel. Yikes!
Hey Sarah yeah that's a nice area up in there not too far away from my house there's a road on the backside of that mountain that goes off down towards lake pleasant.
😅You need to buy some beer spray and the whistle to scare them away that's a beautiful Lake oh my gosh look at that water I bet the fishes are so big but that height of going up I would have probably stop and gone backwards that is beautiful thank you for sharing
I do have bear spray 🙂
It’s a beautiful lake and mountain. I’d be afraid of any bears out in front of me.
Fear the lions, not the bears.
Yeah what said about the drive and hello 😊
Beautiful wow❤
Thanks!
Geez I was white knuckling up and down those switchbacks with ya Sarah! Wow!!
Another amazing video thank you ❤
Beautiful scenery
I wish there wasn't any freaking bears.
Nice drive… even though it gave me anxiety coming down 😝 Love to see how you test your limits 👍🏼 Stay Safe 🙏🏼 Until next time 💕
Bit of a geology class goin' on tharr! I love this scenery. Having said that, it seems everywhere you go is spectacular in it's own way. You is a lucky lady having all that landscape to play in.
Love your perspective too. A lil' less crazy than your namesake but equally informative and enjoyable.
As I keep saying, I live in the wrong Damn country.
Thanks for this one; I needed something to help me deal with my badly 'tweaked' back. Much pain and difficult to walk for now. weirdly, I can still drive. Not to the US tho, I'd flood the engine.... with the Atlantic!!!!
Be well, happy and safe. You know the rules!
Love ya. Take care.
Wolfie. Oh and a PS: If you worry about heights in your jeep..... put smaller tyres on it!!!!!!😆😂. Just kidding. Being what we in the UK call a Pillock
Hope you feel better! Lol, smaller tires?! It's my favorite thing in my jeep.... my big tires!🤣
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
- Robert Frost
Beautiful! Thanks!
Lovely video nice and relaxing and great scenery and narration. Watch out for those bears 🙂
I always worry about the jeep crapping out in nowhere., much better chance than bear problems.
You can boondocks camp at Leadville
If you ever drive up Mount Palomar in California, you'll find a mountain road like that -- it isn't as long, and it is paved and a little wider, but there are tons of switchbacks and it's very lonely. There's a famous observatory at the top you can tour, with a big parking lot. I wonder if they would mind an overnight jeep. There are rental cabins on the side of the mountain.
Great country Arizona
i wrote a Motorcycle song about cruising Arizona, " Easy Rider"
I live in Illinois so I don’t get to drive my Jeep on trails like that. It’s nice to see these cool places in your videos
I wanna live with a cinnamon bear
I could be happy the rest of my life with a cinnamon bear
A dreamer of pictures I run in the night
You see us together chasing the moonlite
My cinnamon bear
Great video Sarah! Beautiful scenery. Arizonia is my happy place, can’t wait to visit my sister in Deer Valley in November 🩷 Keep up the awesome work! 💙
All The campsites I go to are like this up a MT lol I didn't no that tho thanks for the knowledge u shared about the rds
Where did u get your strogae ontop
The tree that you were talking about is a Manzanita. Did you climb the fire tower? You can see Cardinals Stadium from it. This video was sentimental too me. Used to drive up there almost every week during the 13yrs that I lived in Cordes Lakes.🐾🙏🏻✌🏻
Music who is it
Can't remember, got it off of the youtube studio app for music
It worked for me to hit the alarm on my vehicle. It scared the bear away. Well that’s if you’re near it.
Manzanita bush, red and purple ,you're in my country 😊
Another great vid!
I’ve been at that lake before thought the lake was really dark in color. Most time going up there the gate to lake usually locked. Is the restraint still up on top of the Moutain?
