- As a Barry Harris student of 15 years, one of the things that has always amazed me about his playing is his sense of rhythm, especially in improvisation phrases. In this lesson, taken from a webinar for Jazz Skills members, I share some insights about one rhythmic aspect, where he begins phrases. I will show you what I've noticed, how I practice it and use it in my teaching.

How lucky guys you are to have come along with Barry Harris and THANK YOU for sharing to those who didn’t !!
Beautiful breakdown brother! Barry always talks about the rhythm being the most important thing. Thanks for doing this.
Good to hear from you brother! He certainly does say that. It's a pleasure and thanks for being here my friend.
What is this a crossover episode?
@@christopherventura1821 Isn't it wonderful! The love must have been a cornerstone of Barry's teachings. He was a whale of inspiration, and most of all it seems his love is what continues to ripple outwards. Just the way he would have wanted it
Yes, you make an amazing presentation. I really appreciate your generosity and knowledge. Wouldn't it be great if everyone in the world came from the energy you project. Thank you so much!😊
Wow. Very useful - seemingly simple, but so very valuable!
Thank you Mark! Glad it was useful for you.
Really useful lesson, thank you!
Thanks Shan ...an amazing approach really helpful.
Thank you Robin. Really pleased you found it helpful! Wishing you good jazz. Shan
JazzSkills, did you ever hear Barry Harris talk about the importance of the layers of polyrhythm and how they affect rhythm? I've heard BH talk about it in terms of his ballad playing--feel 6 beats of quarter note triplets against the 4/4 of the measure. I am studying with one of BH's former bandmates and students, and he told me that the 6:4 happens at all tempos--it's just easier to feel on ballads. He also talked about the 3:4, but in terms of feeling three beats against the entire measure--half note triplets. Mike Longo also spoke about the importance of these--and more polyrhythms--as the cosmos of feeling bebop and swing. Have you heard anything about this?
Amazing breakdown, Shan . Phew! Rhythm is king 👑
Thank you very much. Rhythm sure is king 😄. Hope your playing is going well. Shan
critical under-addressed topic. thanks!
Thank you very much and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wish you well with your playing. Shan
I noticed that when Charlie Parker recorded several takes of a tune (I forget which one I was looking at) he started the solo on a different (half) beat of the first bar each time.
That's interesting thanks!
very good
Thank you!
This is an old lesson I see …. But really good!!
Great man , can you help on how to sing jazz lines and try to play them with the piano?
I wanna leant to sing the Melodie’s and then try to play them by ear 👂
Do you have something or know about a book that help for begging to intermediate?
Thanks
To be honest, this is something I improved (and continue to) by taking small phrases (even just a couple of notes) and trying again and again to play them back. I would recommend not taking on too much and keeping it very small.
love you. where is your PDF?
Bless you! Contact me through www.JazzSkills.com and I'll see what I can.

Dear Shan, ATTENTION, the PDF is non relative to the rhythm. Maybe there is a wrong file associated to this video?
I'll look into that. Thank you.
