  • If you want to grab these check out Twist Lace twistlace.com/ this isn't a sponsored video, I just thought it was a cool idea and wanted to test them out. With a quick test they feel great for recreational use, they would be amazing for kids skates, especially anyone with a few kids and a backyard rink!

    I think it’s quite comical how long it’s taken the hockey industry to implement these. I’ve been wanting them for years on my skates. I’ve had the Boa system on so many different shoes and boots going back at least 12-15 years so I’m happy they’re finally starting to get this “new” system on skates ha

    I have had BOA laces (similar design with a steel cable lace) in golf shoes for years, looks very similar and other companies have copied the design (Puma has Disc thats the same thing), I have been waiting for them to come out in hockey skates, this seems like a pretty cool alternative since you can retro fit them and hope they come out with them in normal hockey skates. The real benefit along with getting skates on and off faster is that it pulls the tension even, and with small clicks you can really get the perfect fit. I might have to try these on my skates until someone comes out with BOA on hockey skates. (I have seen them on recreational skates just not on hockey FYI).

    my son had a pair of CCM skates around 2005-2006 (I believe he was a squirt AA player at the time) that were made with the boa system, with built in rails for the wire lace and a Boa twist reel on the rear. he loved the ease of tightening and removing his skates, and would've kept wearing them, but I could not find a pair his size when it was time to get a larger skate.
    the only "problem" he had, was that he would have to tighten them one last time after a couple laps in warm-up, but that was likely due to his strength at that age, and his liking his skates extremely tight.
    he never had a failure in cable or gearing, and I was surprised that they never took hold in the market.

    This tech has been around on various foot wear for decades, it's just not common in the least. It was even on two or three different skates in the late 90's and early 2000's. But, very few people even know about it and making a video specifically about this tech will bring more attention to it which might make it catch on like I think it should have long ago.

    • @AbsoluteADCC
      @AbsoluteADCC Před rokem +1

      I kind of doubt Bauer's and CCM's $50m funded R&D labs haven't explored this technology.
      I think Jeremy raised a valid concern that the knob can break mid game and loosen the skate. Also there's concern that it will eat through the eyelets faster if you skate often and aggressively. Maybe if you do a titanium knob and coating for eyelets this can be done on a pro level. But what do I know? =)
      However, I am definitely surprised that it is not used for entry and recreational level skates.

    Like tons of comments have already said, BOA has been around for so long and I am sure they could create something for skates. This is nice that you can just basically install it yourself. BOA usually has a lifetime warranty too. My friends BOA on his bike shoes broke in an area that wasnt fixable, so BOA is buying the new model of the shoe coming out this year and sending it to him.

    • @sooneron
      @sooneron Před rokem

      My K2 inline skates have BOA. I'm not really a fan as the boot is equally tight throughout the foot. I prefer a little wiggle room near the ball of the foot with my ankle locked in. BOA does not allow for that. Plus, there's no way BOA or these will hold up well to some slashes/pucks to the boot. For these to work for ice hockey and probably roller, there would need to be some sort of flap that protects the apparatus.

    Interesting product though I like being able to vary the tightness of different sections like you can with laces.
    Back in the day, 3 strap buckle systems were pretty common with rollerblades. Those were pretty quick and effective. Makes me wonder why they shifted away from that.
    The closest thing I could find similar to that is Option B straps. Velcro straps (3 per skate) each install through a lace hole held using screw and nut with a roller bar on the opposite lace hole (again, screw and nut) for the strap to cinch down. Really wanted them to work because laces are so tedious, but the nut unfortunately was too big to fit through the lace grommets on my skate.

      $30 USD.
      Our dials go onto a mount. The boa dial doesn’t have a mount as it is integrated into the shoe/boot.

      Hi Muse,
      We’ve done plenty of trauma tests to the dial with pucks and sticks. It holds up well. It may not withstand the velocity of a pro level slap shot, but this is meant for kids, Rec leagues, Etc.

    • @davetechme
      @davetechme Před rokem +3

      I did that with an R1 and fell a lot of the first few tries.
      You expect the rocker to change your turning radius by a lot like it would on ice, but the wheelbase remains flat so it's not as dramatic of a change compared to just rockering your wheels (smaller wheels for the front and back) on a standard chassis (which I feel like I can make tighter turns with).

    • @AnHourOfWolves
      @AnHourOfWolves Před rokem

      @@mustang268 It's weird. I went into mars blades after about 8 months without rollerblading on my normal rollerblades and it was still weird.... it's possible that it was weird because I was expecting a rollerblade kinda feel though, it's tough to say. It's not exactly like ice skates though.

    • @AnHourOfWolves
      @AnHourOfWolves Před rokem

      In all honesty though, rollerblade wheels just can't get the turning radius of skates because there's no edge to bite into the ice and hold. So, it's kinda like skating on super dull ice skates in any case since the wheels will inevitably slip.

    • @davetechme
      @davetechme Před rokem

      @@AnHourOfWolves Have you tried just rockering the wheels? The shorter wheelbase makes it much easier to make tighter turns. It's not the same as an ice rocker but I like it better than standard flat wheels. I have to experiment more with the stock R1 but I'm probably going to rocker those wheels eventually.
