    Great teamwork on the crew's part to get the locomotive fully restored and looking/running beautiful! This amazing piece of American history wouldn't be on the rails if it weren't for the money, time, labor, and love that's put into it by you guys. Thank you for keeping these amazing machines alive so newer generations, like mine, can truly experience them and get a taste of what railroading was once like!

All the time and effort and resources that the UP has put into this engine has paid off! I am one of thousands of people in the US that love this Engine! To the entire union pacific steam team thank you so much for keeping the living legend running for all of us!

    Thanks everyone for restoring the steam engines of my past. In 1949 I went from St. Johns MI to Grand Rapids, MI & back on my first trip to see a circus but all I remember was the train ride. I lived in Cheyenne & was blessed to hear 844 whistle blow through the years from 2002 to 2018 so now I hope to hear 4014 blow it's whistle in a few months before it heads to Utah.

      +Nothere27 true. Heck it takes longer to over haul a running engine then it did a static display. Now it is permanent static since a fire torched the engine and the B&O would never run it. Also CSX has a no steam policy.

    *Any plans for special paint for the tenders?* I couldn't help envisioning the front half of the cistern outer wall getting a full-on "coat of arms" treatment of the UP shield, with the "Proud Heritage * Powerful Future" belt around the Mountain Elk crest, an "Excursions" art script on a bend azure across the paly, 4-4-0 UP/Rogers Class E-16 and B-B Electro-Motive/GM F40 for supporters, and a Heinemann-era block lettering used for a "BUILDING AMERICA" underescroll beneath the shield. (The rear half of the cistern outer wall would get the fleet number writ large in the FHA-1 font on both sides and the coupler end.)

    • @NEAFarmKid4010
      @NEAFarmKid4010 Před 6 lety

      Well, not only is it hard to make and find parts, but you also have to remember that the crew is dedicated to running and keeping maintenance on the 844, whilst restoring the Big Boy. And, just to pick on your analogy, bridges and locomotives are completely different things, which I know you already said but again I was picking on your analogy.
