I see the backer that you used but wouldn't this still crack in the seams without some kind of tape? With the cost of labor these day I'm finding it hard to figure out why isn't just replacing drywall everywhere. anyone try this method and go back a year or two later?

Is there a way to use the MgO board without wood framing? Interested in this for mold-safe building, but obviously piping would go between the walls, so leaks reaching the framing would be a concern. How can you mitigate this risk?
You could possibly use a fiberglass reinforced polystyrene beam as shown in this video: czcams.com/video/3Pc-Sd_J26E/video.html it doesn't rot, it doesn't act as a thermal bridge, and since there is no uv light hitting it, it wouldn’t degrade. The price might be a bit higher than that of a wood beam, but that depends on the amount of fiberglass layers you need.

It's definitely heavier than standard drywall, but I think it's a far superior product to drywall. We're about to build a house using SIPs panels that have Mag board on each side, instead of timber.
Its "not okay" to breath any types dust including gypsum ie drywall or cellulose ie wood. So minimize the dust and use protection. Health risk is based on many factors like the type of material its made from and the size and shape the dust. But thats way to complex to get into here...

Can you use a wallboard saw to retrofit a J-box, or do you have to drag in that plunge router?
A reciprocating or jig saw with a carbide blade would work better than a hand saw.

I don't think there is much of a difference. Even so, batt insulation would help with that, and resilient channels.
What is the weight comparison with drywall?
It's definitely heavier than standard drywall, but I think it's a far superior product to drywall. We're about to build a house using SIPs panels that have Mag board on each side, instead of timber.

This appears to be 12mm. 6mm also available .
