  • Liberty University's outdoor campus warning siren is loud AF. And as you can see, they will set it off for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and if a lightning strike has been detected in the vicinity of campus. Skip to 0:50 if you're impatient. :)
    They also set off the siren if an openly-gay person is detected in the vicinity of campus.
    [This is not a test!] and then Mike Pence rains lightning from above.
    So yeah, pretend I have "Don't Ask Me About Liberty" bumper sticker on my car. We don't talk about Bruno Prevo here. As always, thanks for watching!
    Shout-out to ‪@RoplayWX‬ and ‪@HX56Music‬ for informing me that this is a Federal Signal no. 4016 Modulator! More info is available below in the pinned comment replies.

    Federal Signal Modulator-4016 with UltraVoice controller, very cool to see it go off for an actual storm!

      Thank you so much for letting me know! It was definitely cool to experience it in person. I don't know much about these sirens, but what's the difference between a 4016 and a 5020? Does the number correspond to how many cells/drivers there are?

      @HX56Music Před 2 měsíci

      @@lollipop7ification Correct, The first digit (4 in this case) indicates the amount of 'active' cells (the bottom cell of the siren is always used for housing wiring and does not feature any speaker drivers, hence why the smallest modulator available is 2 cells) and the last two digits indicate the amount of speaker drivers (16 in this case, as there are 4 per active cell) - The most you can get is a 8032 which is 8 active cells with 32 drivers, the least being a 1004 (also note that no 7 cell modulator exists). Some of them have a 'B' in the suffix of their model name, which indicates series B (2013 onwards) that is a more compact design with cylindrical modules instead of elliptical shaped modules. The one in your video is an original design Modulator, not series B.
      It's also worth knowing that the first Modulators produced came with MC (Modulator Controller - 1991-1996) or MCP (Modulator Controller Plus - 1995-2002) control units, before the UltraVoice was brought out in 2002. The UltraVoice is still the current controller used by Federal Signal, and likely won't be replaced any time soon as it uses entirely digital components unlike the MC/MCP which were solid state.

    When I was in college, we used to have a lot of severe weather where I went to college and the college I went to was like a community college, so I only went there for 1 year because it was a 1 year program and that whole year we've always had severe weather during the summer in Spring

      Thanks man! I was hoping there was a siren enthusiast who knew the model. Federal Signal? They're the real deal. 👍🏼

    Well, unfortunately this unit was actually replaced by SPEAKERS. Not even kidding!! They are SX600s by Electrovoice! The actual modulator is long gone, but the controller is still there.

      Damn, that's crazy! :( Did you stop by campus today?

      @@lollipop7ification No, ever since I recently moved here to Virginia, I go to Lynchburg occasionally for dentists, and doctors appointments. I remember when that modulator was still there one time I went. All the sudden, a few months later the whole thing is just speakers! Fun fact, I believe there are 11 sirens on the campus. Notice on some of the buildings there are actually speakers, which I believe are part of their system. There used to be three modulator 4016s on the campus, and now believe it or not, thank goodness, they left one, and that one is on top of the Liberty University police department building. Also, Lynchburg university has 4016s, which are still here at this time. Honestly, if there is a severe thunderstorm warning affecting the Liberty University campus, i'll try recording the new speaker arrays. They are definitely NOT my cup of tea at all.
      Also, one more thing. I've notice your channel has been inactive for quite awhile. Nice to see you're back!

      @@CentralVirginiaEAS Thank you so much!! Yeah, I was gone for a while, but it's great to be back making videos again! I missed it.
      It sucks that they replaced that siren with a speaker array - definitely not my cup of tea, either. I was gone from L.U. by the time they made that replacement, so this must've been within the last year.
      I am originally from Roanoke, and went to Liberty for 1½ years too long lol. I think I know what you're talking about on various buildings - on the front of DeMoss Hall, there's what looks to be a large black speaker array on top of the building facing outward... you can just about see it from the parking lot below. Not sure what it's used for, but could be part of their campus warning system? Although I could be wrong. I never noticed any other sirens around campus, just the 4016 on East Campus. I'm surprised I never noticed the 4016 on the LUPD building!
      So cool that you're based in central VA, BTW. Back when I first started making CZcams videos (2013), there were no EAS enthusiasts in my area, as far as I knew. I live in Charlotte, N.C. now, though, but Roanoke is still home. :)
