  • I've had a few of these beautiful radios and they have been incredible performers. Our on air demonstration of this one was done as a huge storm was rolling in so just a quick test before any lightning moved closer. This particular unit is a booming signal on Tx, achieving over 100watts and the audio we recovered from a fellow ham on a quick recording he did was incredible, really showing the speech processor is a beauty. This model is well worth contemplating if your looking at mid priced Yaesu radios, a great demonstration of you don't need to spend $6k on an FTDX101MP, very comparable results from the FTDX3000. Cheers brenton vk3cm jdw229 pls subscribe and also feel free to join us on Facebook at Aussie Radio Pickers or vk ham sales and service anytime....

    Ive had mine for a few months, as an upgrade from an FT857D. What an upgrade, my first 'proper' base radio with a great reciever and extremely good tx audio too, with the built in EQ. Great demonstration and video as usual Brenton.

      @@Bojan_Slavkovic I can't knock the 991a it's a good radio built for a purpose. It was a tough decision The 3000 was $100 more new. I don't use 2&70 as much as HF and I live in a noisy area. So I went for the better receiver and filters in the 3000 and kept saving until I could afford a dedicated 2/70'digital radio which I can also put in the car easily too
      Different horses for different courses, but that was how I made my choice. Either way they are both decent radios and I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

      @@batoff01 Yeah, you are correct. I have FT-847 that I will keep since I also think for me the better solution would be FTDx-3000 (in addition to 847). To make things worse, they just announced FTDx-10... I'll wait for some hands-on reviews of it.

      its better to have 2 radios than only 1, because what would i do if i had only one radio and that thing damages, then there wont be a spare when needed, so its better to have at least 1 in spare, redundant systems for a backup.

    Brenton, congrats on the FTDX3000. Great demonstration. I've had mine for about 2 years now, and love it. I don't usually run the pre-amp on bands below 20m, and like you showed turning it off will help with the noise. As will enabling the DNR function, which is amazing on this rig.
    Point of note....I'm wondering what firmware version yours is running as through the SCOPE button you can toggle directly from the main screen to the large spectrum display, and directly back to the main screen. My FTDX3000 has a real-time waterfall feature as well which is in that "toggle chain". I few years back, a firmware update enabled the waterfall display, along with RF output power adjustment using the PROC/CAR knob, and my 2017 model came with both enabled. The 3000's waterfall isn't in the same league as the Icom 7300 and others, but to me its useable, and having direct access to RF power adjustment without digging into the menu is great. check it out if you haven't already. the built-in sound card also makes digital modes extremely easy, and the 3 antenna ports are very convenient! Take care and stay safe! 73 de Cliff W3KKO

      Robert, the 991A is a solid performer. However, if you're looking for a primary VHF/UHF rig that also has HF as a backup, the Kenwood TS2000 offers tons of value on the used market, plus 100W on 2m out of the box. Compares very well with the 706mk2g IMHO. I have a TS2000 paired with my FTDX3000 (and a 857D) with the 2000 dedicated to UHF/VHF and digital modes. Its adequate on HF but great for VHF/UHF. Look for a 2010 or more recent 2000 as the finals were upgraded. 1999-2009 finals are just about unobtanium. Good luck and have fun de Cliff W3KKO

    Under normal listening conditions the IPO is to remain on as it bypass's the RF amp. When listening to weak stations turn the IPO off which engages the RF amp which in turn pulls in the weak stations...

    Just thought I’d update some further thoughts on my FTdx3000, being a little restless thought I’d take a more in depth review of the latest offerings from Yaesu, FT101, FT10. Watched countless vids and excluded the 101 on the basis I couldn’t do it justice to warrant the expense, so how about it’s little brother the new FT10? No doubt it has a great receiver and the DSP functions are better and the big one for me is having an output to connect a monitor direct. So I decided to go and have a play with my 3000 and the issue is, I love it and it’s a sizeable heavy rig with knobs and buttons. Receiver is of the FT5000 descendant the digital display is a little naff but liveable. As a CW rig it performs as good as any. So why do I want to change, that’s a really good question? 73 de M0AZE

    I bought a new one last summer. I might be one of the few that don't like my ftdx3000 . The power is right next to the mox? The main vfo is way to sensitive! With no option to step 1000 kz ? The memory/ clar/vfo b , are a complete nightmare ! The rx & tx are good , but for me it's got to much quirks! My icom ic 7200 is more basic yet rx & tx are just as good but much much easier to live with! Just my opinion. MM0UDI

    Understandably it is better than a 991a but not as good as a 101. The 101 does have significantly better sensitivity, selectivity and noise reduction.

    Thanks for sharing. Could I ask a suggestion if this FTDX3000 would be a good radio for beginner in HF for DX use in Sydney metro area? I am not too concern with water fall features, plan to do FT8 and use endfed antenna.

    • @DonauweIIe
      @DonauweIIe Před 3 lety +2

      there will be alot of QRM in the metro area in any city in the world, the ftdx3000 has an usefull noise blanker and DNR but that will i think be overwhelmed in to severe QRM situations in a metro area.
      an icom ic-7700 has much more effective noise blanker & noise reduction but it costs like 6 times more than the ftdx3000, maybe thats to expensive for a beginner but else why not getting a good one right from the beginning, to keep it like forever.
      a flexradio flex-1500 should be effective against the QRM too, its a 10watt SDR that requires a computer to work, its not available new anymore, but sometimes they appear on the used market for like $550. if your endfed antenna isnt to short, then the 10w can be enough for ft8. i think a ftdx3000 with all its specialities for a good audioquality in SSB would be a waste to do only ft8 with it.

      @Johnny Rebellion ....Its a nice rig for sure. Starting to get to know the radio enough that Im pulling the hollow sound from the DNR out. Its too bad that we cant have more opportunity to try these expensive radios out before buying. It would have been nice to hear the difference between the dx10 and the dx3000. Both are virtually the same price right now, but completely different technology. The 3000 has multi antenna connections, which would be nice to have
