  • Here is my Volvo C70, I’ve had it a few months now and filmed this to share my thoughts on an open top cruiser for less than £1000.
    I discuss the looks, performance and practicality in this short review of a future Swedish classic.
    Filmed with iPhone and gopro hero 9

    I own a titanium grey one since 2017, lovely and very reliable car producing unbeatable 5-cylinder sound. Almost no technical issues so far, periodic service only. Probably one of the most underrated convertible car in my opinion.

      Very well built, they will all have a few niggles with their ages but definitely underrated!

    I have had this exact model (and colour) for 6 years now, I agree a GOOD towbar doesn't completely eliminate scuttle shake but it hugely reduces it! Now 79 and have owned many cars but this is my favourite.

      I’ll consider the tow bar when the car is back on the road this summer if it makes a noticeable difference!

      @@db192 very noticeable, you won't regret it. Lock tight all bolts and nuts, they try to migrate!

    I’ve got an 06 c70 automatic it’s fabulous it goes like a scalded cat and has just sailed through its last two mot’s, midnight blue with cream interior not beige and it’s a sumptuous combo , I bought it for about £2k 5 years ago , never looked back I love it best car I’ve ever had. Juicy though and high rft

      They are lovely cars, both the Mk1 and Mk2. As long as they get the maintenance they deserve we can all enjoy these cars for years to come.

    Must be lucky, I've not noticed too much shake in my c70 GT Manual, someone did say its factory lowered, maybe that helps.. Also strut and uprated drop links (meyle HD) seemed to have helped.

      @db192  Před rokem +1

      The modifications will definitely help, I suspect my suspension is in need of an update!

      @@db192 good tyres are paramount on the coupe and convertible. I started on some landsails on the coupe but they only lasted a year (front) vs the Goodyear as3 I put on the rear which only got replaced because the rear torsion were wearing them,7 years later. Cross climate on the convertible at the moment essential getting the power down on the t5.

    I would love one of these but the repair bills should anything break is a worry. I own a 940 wagon and a 240 GLE sedan, both from the 90s. A third Volvo would also mean a divorce.
    The C70 cabriolet is a beautiful car.

    • @db192
      @db192  Před 2 lety

      I’ve had a few problems already! I’ve got a coolant issue which seems to be a leaking heater matrix but part costs seem reasonable if you can fit them yourself. Wouldn’t risk getting divorced to own a C70 though, the other Volvos you own will keep you busy with the upkeep! I have a 740 estate that needs a load of work to get it roadworthy but it’s hard to find the time to work on it! Maybe it will be on the road by Christmas 🤞🏼.

    I have a 2003 soft top which cost aud $1000 it's metallic pearl blue- probably the only one I've ever seen in Australia. Thankfully it's got charcoal leather and the good woodgrain inserts in the steering wheel. I love the look of them- I hate the hard top convertibles post 2004 they are the sh*ttest looking volvo possibly ever. Having said that first generation soft tops have sooh many problems! Possibly why not many exist outside the wreckers over here

    • @db192
      @db192  Před rokem

      The 1st gens seem to have their quirks and problems but they are still great to drive nearly 20 years on. I’m surprised they don’t hold their value in Australia considering how far you are from the factories. I like having uncommon cars that you don’t see on the roads, a lot of people don’t realise it’s a Volvo!

    The MK1 C70 coupes are so much better, The ragtops look naff to me mostly driven by a retired person with their baseball cap on back to front! 😂

      I don’t look good it caps so that’s me stuffed! I prefer the look of the coupes but you can’t beat having the roof down on a nice day!
