Hi! My name is Tim The Lawnmower Man and I love to clean up overgrown yards and make fun videos doing it. I'm able to do them for free as these videos have ads on them and the revenue from that enables me to cover my cost.
I'm always looking for the worst yards around. Sometimes I drive around looking for them, sometimes viewers send me suggestions.

Thanks for the support! Especially the people watching all the VLOGS!
I bet this is due to help from Robbie/Rob/Robert?👍All that is missing now is an intro tune sung by the both of you😅
Nooooooo!!!!!!! I love the daily vlog. I suppose I’m just going to have to wear it 🤭🤭🤭🤭😉😉😉😉
Love the vlogs and the others too!!
Love love love the vlogs. You are amazing.
Hi Tim. I am watching you from the US (Texas). Here, we would refer to the material in the driveway as "GrassCrete". It is meant to be eco-friendly. It provides a semi-porous surface which stands up to automobile traffic and allows the surface water to penetrate the soil rather than run off. Not only does it replenish the aquifer, but it also helps with erosion control. I learned about it in the 70's when I was in college studying architecture. So, your statement of it being a product of the 60's is probably spot on. Sorry to hear you don't like it. It is meant to look exactly like you see it with the grass growing through the holes. Don't sweat it. Just run the mower over it on the lowest setting and edge the sides. BTW, love your videos.
This
In Ohio they are called "Turf-Blocks" which provide a green alternative to a boring asphalt or concrete drive. It is meant to be mowed like the lawn.
Have seen this here in the UK, also called Grass Crete, used for driveways and small car parks.
Plant something like this: carpet plant Dichondra plant
I've seen this advertised as good to use on a grassed area you want to park on. I like the idea of it.
The reason for those particular pavers is they are to allow the grass to grow through so all you have to do is mow ... and it allows vehicles to drive / park on them without leaving worn driveway marks on the lawn. Some people also use them to prevent dogs from digging up the lawn.
I was wondering if they were filled with stones? You have the correct answer!!
Love the idea about the dogs!
These driveways were used for two purposes. The look(if it’s well maintained) and to reduce the ambient heat cased by concrete slabs. Love the content mate
Thank you 🙌
Also to allow drainage, rather than run off into the street. Bunnings still sells something similar, just a more basic square pattern.
The problem with them is that the small areas of dirt don't allow the grass to grow 'together' clump ... you know ... and all that happens is the weeds win!
As many others have said, the patterned blocks are for drainage reasons, they should be laid on a sand/gravel/ crushed rock bed over a ground seal cloth. The spaces should have stones/crushed rock in them, due to cost this is not always done.
Looks like it would save on the amount of concrete used as well. Looks poured and not individual blocks.
As well as reducing the heat from asphalt the driveway also reduces polluted water run off into the storm water system from cars etc. Thanks from California.
That Milwaukee trimmer is very powerful. Those types of driveways were designed to be cooler and negate the heat island effect created by cement slabs. Also they are designed to help preserve groundwater by absorbing rain water and not just draining it off to the storm sewers.
It's not important whether you are Tim the Lawn Mower Man or Free Friday Mowing you still do 1 hell of a great job , congrats!
Whew! Nice job as usual. Many of your peers would probably just have done a Mow, Blow and
Go. Not you. You treated this property like it was the Queen's backyard. That's what separates you from all the rest. Well done, Sir.
Exactly right Mark! I watch the others and George here is by far the best. His attention to detail is exceptional, far ahead of the others.
@@Chris_Comments you have the wrong guy this guy is Tim, the lawnmower man. George is on quick cut. He is also really good and detail orientated.
To be fair, you are meant to just mow over Those driveway pavers, so all you have to do really is mow snip and blow😊
This driveway design is awesome. The thought of run off water going back into the aquifer and not running down the street warms my heart. Tim, I hope you realize how important this is. Great work ethic. ❤️
I have to say, when I watch some other lawn guys I always think how Tim would get the edges better! Great job, Tim. Good sidewalk find!
Tim my man. Honey, you have out done yourself. Sometimes I think you get taken advantage of. You have done more than your share. Blessings on you for your generous heart. Until next time. Darling take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺❤️👍😇🕊🌞🌹🇺🇸🙏
I live in the US, but I've spent a lot of time in Germany and there were a lot of driveways similar to that there. When they're new, the holes in the blocks are filled with a small gravel (1/4-inch or 0.5cm size). I assume it allows water to seep in to the ground much faster than solid pavers. The gravel-filled holes are covered with grass after a couple of years but they usually look ok and don't require mowing or other maintenance if the driveway gets used frequently.
To clear these tight gaps, in The Netherlands we use steel brushes on broom sticks. One pass is enough. Then aftercare with vinegar
G'day @rleermakers, do you use boiled/hot water from the kettle as well or just vinegar?
@@J35TR93 just vinegar does the trick. Most of the weed is physically removed by the hard steel brush (in V shape)
That driveway is brilliant! Mr. Mambo hates the look of concrete in front of the house. This would give you a surface to eliminate ruts and keep your lawn looking nice. Can't wait to show this to him. You would just keep it mowed. Genius!
This was a time consuming one for sure! You did a wonderful job on this for these people. I bet they loved it. I am sure the husband will keep it up, he showed the desire by buying the lawnmower. Hope this finds you and your little family happy and healthy. See you next time!
I love it when you get an overgrown garden, and your hands itch to clean it, and let it look like a brand new garden. Love it. Perfect job done😊
Well, one result was to bring back the topic of driveways with growth in the pavers intended as part of the design. People seem to have confirmed it as a landscape design choice of the time period of building. Now, many years later, people living in those areas can have an idea of what the maintenance was meant to be and how to deal with it. I would classify this yard as a Restoration. You refound the form, design and got it back to usable order and recovered the physical and visual space. It can be maintained now. Looked nice. Thank you for all your work.
Tim the Lawnmower Man: heart of gold, gift of gab, clock wound tighter than Dick's hatband, skilled detailer, PR guru. Your wife is undoubtedly a sainte: calm cool, collected, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. You, your family are indeed blessed as are your clients.❤🎉😊
😂 thank you
Great job. Love it when hidden paths are found.
Awesome Transformation! The property looks so much better. Even with unknown challenges you always do an outstanding job. Thank you for helping to set this family up for future lawn maintenance success!
Thank you Tim for directing me from FB over to your channel here , and explaining why FB now only has your shortie-short videos. I WAS REALLY MISSING YOUR LONGER VIDEOS!! I'm in Heaven .. again! 💯❤💯❤💯
Glad you like them!
Unreal! A whole walkway!! Completely buried. I’m tired just watching you. That was a monster
You really doing amazing work...I love watching you clean up overgrown yards. Excellent work 👏
Nice work Tim. ..... your a good man, keep up the great work that you do! 💯💯
That driveway is meant to be like that for aesthetical purpose, to have the grass growing on those shapes. The problem is that it needs to be rigorously maintained to keep it looking good.
Yeah. I also have my suspicions that they’re better suited to old reel mowers than rotary ones.
With keeping it cut really low and regular use from cars and people it shouldn't require much.
Those bricks are made that way in the driveway so that way when it rains the water goes back down into the ground instead of it running off into the street etc.
They look very 1970’s to me .
You can still buy these in this day and age (not that I'd want to). But just saw them at a local landscape supply place today in my travels!
Maybe one of the tools you could test out is the wire wheel brush attachment that goes on your Stihl. That would have helped clean up that funky driveway.
You are the first guy to mention dog poop. You'd think at least the homeowner could make an attempt to pick them up. They're getting the lawn cut for free!
How would they find it in that tall grass?
Better look for it if you want the grass cut for free!
They look dirty bastards to let their place get to that state, just don’t care
Another good one, good yard needing something, that lawn will be up in no time, hope the owner fixes his lawn mower else it’s a waste f your time and diligence.Thank you for Free Mow Fridays, you are a blessing to your community. From Geelong, Vic.
I was 16, in high school when string line trimmers were first introduced. My oh my, how we scoffed at them then. Hard to imagine life without them now.
I recall the hand edgers of the past (though still available) The pole with a rubber wheel on one side and the spikey wheel that did the edging. Then there were the hand sheers that you did the rest of the edge with.
@@Tomcatt817 Yeah, I recall those as well. I never used one. At that point in my life and the area where I lived we were satisfied with just keeping the grass mowed.
Tim what a great job and so much fun to watch. Thanks for the entertainment and all you do.😊
You did a great job as always you’re such a professional landscaper. Please keep up the good work. I certainly appreciate it and I love your videos. Keep.😊😊😊😊
I’ve never seen this much brick and concrete used . I like the brick driveway but it is high maintenance. One would need to stay on top of it. What a gem you are to have done this!
Im going to miss seeing you every morning, but totaly understand. I did buy my husband one of those weed torches. He loves it and said to buy backups😊 thank you for that
I hate it when i start a job that turns out more complicated than originally thought, but gotta push through for self gratification 😂 Then happy end.
The bottom part of the driveway you did perfect. ❤
I see you're taking lawn detailing to new heights. As I was watching, I was going to say, oh, at least you didn't get rained on. Oops, spoke too soon. You did a really good job on that yard. It was seriously overgrown. Kudos to you!
Wow, that was a big job Tim. You made it look neat & tidy. Hope they appreciated your hard work. Well done 😊
Great job, your a fair dinkum bloody legend. Keep it up as we need more people like you doing this for people in need.
My weed burner is hooked to a five gallon propane tank and sounds like a jet airplane taking off. Lol I use it year round. Weeds, ice doesn't matter. Nothing like a dry driveway in the middle of winter.
Great Job! Tim The Lawnmower Man❤
Great filming and editing.🎉🎉 it's a pleasure to watch your craftsmanship ❤
PG Tips what a job that was it certainly looks a lot better !!! Hope they can maintain it now you have done all the donkey work 🙏🏻🙏🏻👏👏👏🇬🇧🇬🇧
Another fantastic job. Wish other lawn mowing groups would follow your work. Big thumbs up 🎉😅
God bless you and your family
When i was foreman gardener for English neighbourhood association, ( 18 1/2 acres, 183 houses, all buffer zones and pathways, lawns etc.) we often refused to cut lawns due to amount of dogs crap, (which carries Toxicana Canis) a desease which causes blindness, we would say, "When you have removed what your dog has left behind, then we would mow. Until then we wouldn't ". Some residents would get large fines.
The open driveway pavers are American mid century, 1950’s to 1970’s. Their purpose was esthetic, to keep rainwater in the ground and stave off heat. People just mowed right over it pushing the no gasoline rotary mowers. The pavers are still sold today.
Well done Tim !
People leave their mowing for too long, this happens all around me, when they eventually mow, it's without a catcher, then they leave it all over the footpath and road, spreading seed head back over my lawn, they never do edges.
Then the process is repeated again in 6-8 months FFS !
That pattern on the driveway is really interesting. The homeowner could spray vinegar over it to kill the weeds.
You a great job your work make a big difference
Gary is in for a surprise. Loved your work ❤Queensland
You're not meant to take it back to the concrete, the idea is growing a running grass (like a couch) so you can park on it and but have ruts. You can then wash your car etc without it running into the gutter.
No grass there, all weed
It's a shame that you couldn't give these people a push mower they seem deserving of 1. Great job, Tim. This 1 turned out amazing 👏. I love it when you edge.
@@timthelawnmowerman very true for that yard lol
Fingers crossed they can get on top of it from here.
Are you just meant to mow it then?
@@krisheim7009 yes, the bricks allow the option of grass with the strength off concrete
Looking at the driveway, I wonder if grass is meant to grow in the pattern? Loving this makeover!
Yes. Or put gravel. It’s supposed to help with runoff and erosion as others have said in better comments. Watching Tim, though, I kept thinking “somebody must’ve spent a fair amount of money to replace the original driveway with this, and the result is a surface that is so bumpy, that someone can’t run a lawnmower across it.”
I do this too. I use mower to cut n blow grass clippings into a line or pile for easier raking n pick up. 👍
In the states they do higher end fire truck lanes with heavy road base and pavers on top of the road base where lawn can grow through them. You just mow over them and let the grass grow through them.
In the US we sometimes use them for decorative fence's. Maybe even paint them😊😊
I bet the lawnmower probably worked, but there's no way it would work on that long grass--of course it would cut out! I hope he keeps it up and can maintain it after all that fantastic work you did for him. And it would be nice if the homeowners thanked you for the work. I love to see the reactions of the people after you do that work! Keep up the good efforts despite the dog poop. :) Two of my favorite yard "tools" is roundup and also the leaf blower. :)
Hi good looking...your still my favorite lawn cutter guy😊💛🙏
oh I forgot Gary went to the pub to have some beers to cool off after a very hard day of work 😂
Hahaha probably. You can't help but somewhat feel sorry for these people. Just suck at life
What a great Job.I look your videos in Germany and I like it
That was insane. Terrific cleanup - your back must be iron strong from that. 😊
You can thank the NSW Housing Commission for those driveways. This particular suburb has 800 public housing dwellings, tons of them with those driveways! They were built in the mid 1960s.
My only experience of this is where commercial buildings are situated in a green space and provision needs to be made for service / emergency vehicles where the ground may be wet / soft but not spoil the aesthetic from a distance.
I was going to say that it was housing commission that did that.
I realize those driveways are a pain, but they are beautiful when you finish. I’m liking them❤❤❤ sorry 😂
Wow, wow, great job.
Love the out come. They truly needed some help. Drive way surprised me. I thought it was going to be two cement strips. ❤
Wow, that backyard... just add a few holes and you've got a mini-golf course! Great work & results as always Tim. Onya.
Such a thorough n well done job! 😀
Nice job, I like that decorative pavement
You did a wonderful job!
Watching from cold Maine USA. Great job.
Hello Tim
I am watching you from germany. These stones are called lawnstones in my country. The lawn please not removed, it is mown with the mower like normal lawn.
The stones are important for driving on the ground better. Greetings from germany Chris ❤
Nice job!! Looks so much nicer❤
Madami along pinapanood na video ibang iba sa ito step by step ka gumawa at malinis talaga
Yes uncovering the path to nowhere was a good watch 😂
Wow!😮 That was a Big Transformation!👏🏼Great Job!👍🏼👍🏼
A big hello from northern california And I love your channel ❤
I love you and your generosity! Thank you for the videos!
this one had so many interesting components!
Over here we use this type of construction for water runoff management, it allows the water to be absorbed by the ground and not just run off onto the streets.. ps I'm from Scotland and it rains a lot here 😂
I've seen this done in England too.
It looks great!
Certainly very improved by your visit. Cheers.
I have an acre pretty well maintained but this yard tho small has a lot of work needed n you did it! 😀
Great video. Thank you.
Awesome job Tim
You did so well to persevere with that job, a lot of work in there that’s fiddly. Well done.
Tim...I know you felt this site was a pain in the "beehind" ... lol .... but I sure enjoyed watching it! You do such awesome work! Thanks for sharing!!!
The dog I'm sure was happy!!
Hi ! Cindy from Indiana , just want to say I love watching your videos Tim !! True PERFECTIONIST YOU ARE !! ❤😊❤
In the US that driveway that you are cleaning up is made from 8×8×16 the reason why they for high traffic areas to protect the lawn the tops you see is different There area Spikes And the voids are filled with Is gravel That's good Or top soil . I found out when I started working for my states park system in 1999
@Tim The Lawnmower Man, I've followed you long enough to know that that whipper snipper was giving you some issues there in the beginning. Big difference once you switched out. Excellent job as always. Really enjoyed seeing the hidden surprise of that sidewalk!
Super video! Looks great! 😀
My Neighbor, through some twist of fate I don't understand, managed to make it to adulthood, and far past, not knowing that if there's nowhere for the grass to go, and you don't have a bag on, the mower can't continue. I wonder if between lack of knowledge, and the height of the grass shown, if the mower he thought was a Dud might be perfectly fine with proper knowledge, and kept up grass. Granted, I'm not there, so can't figure that out, myself.
Beautiful job Tim! Please stay hydrated! ❤
Tim, we understand that for the kind of videos you make and for more people to see them, the grass needs to be very big and very abandoned, but I think that lazy Gary doesn't try hard enough to cut the grass, of the machine not working is a bad excuse 😂
They always have a broken mower, don't they?
New Slogan "Do My Best, Spray The Rest". From your friendly neighborhood Lawn Detailer!
Awesome!!
Excellent job as always Tim. 👏🏻👏🏻
I think you did a great job with this God bless you 🙏❤
Neat looking driveway! Great job!
You did a very good job on the piece of crap lawn. If people have animals they need to clean up their yards regularly. I am from Montana and never heard of those blocks.
Nice work once again, I think the only part of the mower that’s broken is the person pushing it 😁
Hopefully they will be able to maintain it now. Great job mate!
