      We served fried chicken occasionally, it was frozen and we just baked it awhile. Not too bad. We did sloppy joes too, which was ground beef straight from the government commodity program with Manwich brand sauce straight out of #10 cans from Sysco. They were pretty good too, but after the new initiative most of that stuff disappeared.

    Poor kids from Kenya seems to eat healthier than US kids. Sorry about that.
    In France we are very lucky to have so good cafeterias in school. I never realised that before. Many french kids barely eat and trash everything away. Sometimes girls thinks not eating will help them to remain thin. Or they are just picky with the taste of dish they are not used to eat at home. But french cafeterias try to make kids discover the variety of french cooking and learn them to have a balanced feeding instead of just eating trash food like pizzas and burgers. And kids don't realise how lucky they are compared to americans or other coutries with food problems.
    Sorry if it seems like I'm braging about french food. France is a good country but far from beeing perfect, so we can delight what is good here. ^^

      @ZhangK71 Před 8 lety

      +Guigui Je suis americain et je deteste vraiment nos dejeuners de cantine. J'ai regarde une video qui montre un chef d'une lycee francaise dans la compagne qui achete les ingredients du marche local et qui cuisine des escargots une fois par semaine. L'industrie du "junk-food" aux Etats Unis est trop fort... je crois que c'est la raison.

    • @Guigui_82
      @Guigui_82 Před 8 lety

      +ZhangK71 L'exemple dont tu parles reste une exception. Les cantines françaises se font livrer leurs ingrédients par des grossistes. Certaines se font même livrer les repas déjà préparés par des cuisines centrales qui le distribuent aux cantines environnantes, car ça revient moins cher. Mais les repas doivent être équilibrés sur le plan nutritionnel quoi qu'il en soit.
      Une petite cantine doit pouvoir faire ses courses au marché elle même, en effet.
      Je n'ai jamais mangé d'escargots, ni à la cantine, ni chez moi. Je trouve ça écoeurant. :) Par contre les cuisses de grenouille ne sont pas mauvaises. Mais ça reste un plat de fêtes.
      Tu parles super bien français ! Depuis combien de temps tu l'apprends ? T'es en quelle classe ?

    • @sailorecume
      @sailorecume Před 8 lety

      Guigui Pas par des grossistes dans la fonction publique tu as quelque chose qui s'appelle les marchés publics et c'est valable pour la restauration Scolaire. De nombreuse caisse des écoles ont des accords avec des agriculteurs locaux, bien sur ce ne sera pas sur tous les produits mais ça fait parti du cahier des charges.

    In singapore there is no such thing as a school lunch okay?Instead we have a canteen which has different stalls selling different food(it all depends on what the store owners are selling).So during break or what singapore students call recess we gotta bring our own money and buy our food from the canteen.Basically saying that during recess eating is not compulsary.Students can chose to study in class,play or do anything else.Schools in singapore do not care if u have a balanced meal in school so basically nobody cares if u do not eat friuts or vegetables.So do not be fool because in singapore,there is NO such thing called school lunch

    Shockingly accurate depiction of lunches where I went to school in the US, cannot speak to the other countries however most of them appeared to have far better portions of healthier foods.
    We did use plastic trays in my school most of the time, but all the styrofoam and plastic utensils would end up thrown away, occasionally a tray as well. People mostly ate like shit, or brought their own lunches which were rarely healthier, albeit more appealing to the eye... sometimes.
    What really gets me is nowadays kids are becoming more restricted in what they can bring for lunches due to other children's food allergies. My cousins, for example, were not allowed to eat their lunches and instead forced to buy school lunches due to some child's peanut allergy. We never had this issue when I was in school, we just wouldn't pass around snacks containing peanuts, kids survived. This is what their epi-pens are for. That shit really bugs me. I hate the idea of catering to the minority like that in such an extreme way. It is one thing to be careful, but when they get older and go out not everyone is going to hide away their foods that could cause an allergic reaction, the world doesn't bend to your whim. Fucking public education man.
    Also very sad seeing some of the African and other country's meals, small and one dimensional.

    I live in England, in my cafeteria there are 3 sections. The first section is pasta, it comes in a large styrofoam cup and you can choose sauce and meatballs and everything.
    The second section is the cold section where you can buy amazing pre-packaged wraps and sandwhiches or get a tub for the salad bar. These are well maintained and kept to good standards.
    Then there's hot foods, normally baked potatoes, curry, Shepard's pie, quiche, baguettes, pasta/lasagne, mashed potatoes, warmed/steamed vegetables, noodles, rice, meats and everything warm. They are mainly healthy but it's £1 (or around €2 for others) to get a plate of chips on a Friday. They are only sold on Fridays and have low salt. I feel bad for American lunch boxes, seems dull and really processed.

      The chinese one, with a whole cooked fish, looked rather good to me. But children don't like whole fishes because of the bones.

    American school lunches are disgusting and devoid of nutrition. They are meant to be cheap, not wholesome. I think that's because we are not a very poverty stricken country. Kids are supposed to get better nutrition at home. It's just meant to tide them over. It's sad because some kids are really poor and school food is sometimes all they get. I wish our lunches were more like Korea or Japan. plentiful and highly nutritious.

      when you live in a small town in the U.S, there typically aren't a lot of options. they don't put enough vegetables in the salad bar, (you don't get any unless you are one of the fist 10 or 15 people) the lettuce is often on the verge of rotten, there are two sides for food and one tends to be something that has made kids sick before and the other slightly better, from time to time all the milk expires (just two years ago we got the option for a water bottle.) Its just bad.

    In my school (USA) we have pizza, chicken noodle soup, grilled chesse, tomato soup, hamburgers, french fries, rice, subs, chicken breast, or chicken nuggets for the main item, a vegetable such as corn or carrots, and a fruit. It's not the most yummy meal in the world, but it doesn't taste bad.
