I always loved how they bounce off each other, especially when Applejack reels Rarity in.
Sure, Rarity has her crushes or her dramatic freakouts, but Applejack's always gonna be there to remind her of what truly matters: the people/ponies who love her. As Rarity admits, Applejack knows her better than she knows herself.
I said years ago that "Trade Ya!" was basically a bunch of shipping bait loosely tied together with string.
When Rarity tried spikes food, It was more like a mom trying the First food her son made, and applejack was like a mom asking to her wife to give a try to it.

My headcanon was Rarity and Applejack never confessed their love to each other yet. So Trender Hoof is there and she simply admires him but everyone else thought she had a crush on him including Applejack. That's where the rest of the episode unfolds.
Also, maybe Rarity found out Trender Hoof likes Applejack so she's trying to redirect that affection to her instead so she could just dump him later and not worry about Applejack developing feelings for that guy.

So, since my headcanon for this episode doesn’t make a lot of sense, here are some other theories I like a lot more lol.
1. Rarity and. AppleJack did start dating early in the series, but broke up at some point before this episode and will get back together someday/got back together in another season, mostly likely season 5 or 6.
2. They’re not dating yet/never dated, but will someday.
For both these situations regardless of their relationship status, my head canon is that Rarity at least knows that AppleJack is a lesbian/isn’t straight.
so, I wanna add something to this lol. I don’t know if "headcanon" is exactly the right word to use for this, it’s more just like a little fanfic that I made up in my head while making this video, though I do think it’s a bit weird now 😭

I found this MLP blooper reel a little while ago, and in it was Rarity and AppleJack while they were arguing over their stash, and above them, Fluttershy was carrying items back and forth across the screen. First it was an apple, then it was a basket of apples, then it was Twilight by the back hooves, and the next thing you know, demon Fluttershy was chasing after an eagle who stole her apples, XD.

Any of the Mane 6 would prob be easy to ship but Rarijack just has such a dynamic and fleshed out relationship. I know Appledash ended up being where it was at which is cool but I am glad they're pushing Rarijack in Equestria Girls now then. I still HC that Rarity and Applejack were an item at some point during the shows timeline tho just later in the series probably

I headcanon that it was after trenderhoof that rarity went full in on AJ, and starting picking up on all her previous and future advances. That episode was basically the catalyst for rarity to realize it was AJ she wanted the whole time.

Im not even an Appledash hater, im genuinely confused what people saw in Appledash, most of the time it was played up as rivals, ig people liked the rivals/enemies to lovers thing and the fandom at the time was more run by males so i can see why the male demographic would lean more towards appledash (i could be wrong but just a theory) but for sure RariJack had more chemistry, but children cartoons are notorious for having "bad" romance plots/pairings
