When I lived in Colorado in the early eighties I had a brief encounter with an older Native American man on one of our many camping trips, one thing that came up in our conversation was a small flute that he carried on a piece of leather around his neck that allowed the flute to hang near his heart. When I asked why he carried it, he replied "to speak with the eagles and gain their wisdom".
He invited my wife and I to come along as he made his way along a path to the top of a cliff above our campsite, once there we were literally eye level with two eagles that were soaring above the valley floor scanning the area for prey. We sat on the ground a few feet behind him as he "spoke" to the two eagles with the flute. Within 10-15 minutes they were gliding by so close that we could actually hear the air passing over their wings.
There was never any sense of fear or aggression etc, just a sense of connection to nature on a level that I had not previously experienced....an experience I will never forget.

The response from birds is exactly why I've been using high tone instruments more recently.

wow what a great story, thank you for sharing! I recently traveled to a paleo cave in Germany where they found the first flutes dating around 40.000 ! years ago. They were made of birds bones (one of mamouth bone) and all high pitched. How beautiful is that. blessings !

I had a similar experience with an Osprey. I was on 100 mile canoe trip and came apron an Osprey calling out as he flew over the river. With my high A flute I was able to almost replicate the birds call. As he would call I would answer back. With in a few minutes he was circling my canoe. He eventually sored within twenty feet over head checking out the Osprey that didn't look anything like him. It was the highlight of the trip and I will always cherish the way I was able to become apart of the nature I was in and to communicate with one of Gods creatures.

Best for outdoors, hiking and climbing! How pleasant it is to feel the high pitched sounds of the little ones piercing through mountains and valleys... So powerful... Sylphs and angels gather around!

People might have bad memories of low-quality high-pitch recorders. Thankfully, your flutes have a much better timbre in the high notes.

You might have changed my mind about high toned flutes. It really sounded quite smooth and not screechy at all.

Just want to take the time and say thank you for making your videos. My favorite flute key is a high d, amazing how the type of wood makes such a difference in how they can sound.

I have 13 high "D", and one high "C" tinwhistles/pennywhistles/Irish whistles (they're all the same). I'll have to play them in a wooded area and see what happens. Hope I don't anger a bear.

Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us. I just recently found your videos and have learned a lot from them so far. I am attempting to make my first PVC flute based on what you have taught. I was curious if making a Native American flute out of metal wold require any changes to how it is made or if all the same rules, measurements, etc. would apply?

Is there a way I can see your video of the world's smallest flute and the quail? I don't do any social media.
    I enjoy your videos!

Is there a way to properly clean the flute? I don't mean waxing, but say after a while it gets dirty from my hands or from soot from a fire - how can I clean it? Thanks!

Hi. I make my fist bamboo flute 😁
Not tuned no 5 holes is 60cm long from soundhole. When I blow soft I get 140hz C3 when stronger 520hz C5
What is the main tone for tuning? 🙏
    Sorry I'm a rookie 😂

Don't quite understand why you refereed to harmonicas as "high key" when they are made in a wide range of keys, major and minor.

95% love me 5% hate me. You just have to figure out which side you're on. From there you can either find reasons to love me or hate me.
