Hey Guys! Today Sara is going to take on the BIGGEST hit song of 1982, “The Eye of the Tiger”!
Many of you probably remember it as the theme song for the film Rocky III.
The song was originally done by the rock band Survivor formed in 1978 by Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan.
Their breakthrough came when actor Sylvester Stallone asked them to provide the theme song for his movie Rocky III. Stallone had heard some of their other music and was a BIG fan. The song was chosen for the movie and which was released 3 weeks before the song was released as a single.
Before their success with the band, Survivor members Dave Bickler Bickler and Peterik both worked as jingle singers. Peterik once sang a popular Sunkist commercial that re-worked the Beach Boys song "Good Vibrations
Survivor is one of the few bands to rack up hits with two different lead singers. "Eye of the Tiger," was sung by original lead vocalist Dave Bickler, but when Bickler had throat surgery in 1983, he was unable to sing. So the band dumped him and filled his spot with Jimi Jamison, who sang on their later hits, including "High on You" and "The Search Is Over."

Believe it or not, I had the privilege of meeting Jim Peterik at his home (he lives just outside of Chicago) back in the late '90s. He was interested in producing (for himself) songs of a band I was helping at the time, a decision was made and it ended with a Thank You, but no Thank You. But once again, believe it or not, the possibility of putting a band together and recording said songs is still very much alive. I Hope to Share that story with the two of You in the not too distant future. As far as today's video. Another Great job. Sara, You Look and Sound Fantastic. "Eye of the Tiger" remains forever connected to the Rocky films. Too bad as Sara did not sing the song back then. I like your performance a thousand times better. What I also like about Sara is how clearly every single word sung is to be understood. Since English is not my native language, this is very pleasant. Sara is the best!

Just too beautiful and gorgeous voice
Sara really exploits her lower range in this song. She is a mezzo soprano from what I can tell and her low notes really get to me. She shows what we in Opera call the "Ping or metal" If you put your fingers in your ears when it is present you can hear this ringing under tone. It really increases volume and carrying power. It is taught to classical performers so you can blow them out of the auditorium with out a mike. It is the mark of a great singer, power with out destroying ones vocal cords like the rockers. Once I learned this I could sing full voice for 3 hrs and feel pleasantly warmed up. Rock on Sara!

This is the first song I ever performed in front of an audience.
Short story. I was backing vocals, keyboard and rhythm guitarist. The lead singer left us hours before our first gig. We drew straws between 2 of us, and I lost ... but won in the end.
