I really think time was what drove them into obscurity. Late 90s and early 2000s was where this type of music was at its peak, being featured in movies, commercials, games, and radio. Nowadays its all about rap and pop mostly. Genre is nowhere near as popular. And Spider One refused to change the band's sound, which I completely respect. A lot of bands adapt their sound to fit with the times, but PM5K never changed. He definitely performs and makes music for fun because he enjoys it, not just the money

I saw Powerman 5000 for the first time last month despite being a fan for decades. They brought the best energy I have ever witnessed at a show. The entire venue was jumping and dancing and their performance was amazing. I'm glad they are touring and still rocking it.

Just saw them last year, with Mudvayne and Rob Zombie and Static X
    They kicked ass.
The concert got delayed because of weather and they went on stage and started playing, talking to the crowd and cracking jokes.
I was never that big of a fan of theirs, but id definitely see them again. They put on a GREAT show.

I think one of the reasons why PM5K did't gather as big a fanbase as White Zombie did, is because they were highly experimental. Every album was unlike the previous one, now they are rapping, then they are rocking, next they do some pop-punk stuff that is neither pop nor punk... And personally I totally dig it, PM5K has songs for every mood and every period of life. But the thing is, when you dish out something completely unexpected and unlike your previous works, you alienate the established fanbase that liked your *previous* style. And when you change your styles repeatedly and never stick to one, it just alienates people further and makes them kvetch about how much they wish you came back to making the stuff *they* liked.
Rob Zombie's projects were much more consistent in what they were doing and what style and vibe they upholded, I think.

Here's also something you may not know about Spider. Long before he started his MC Spider career, he used to have his own little punk rock band called Vital Interest whom only released one demo before quickly breaking up after performing a couple shows. So ironically even though alot of people say Spider is trying to rip-off Rob Zombie, Spider was actually the one doing music first. And here's one other piece of info about the 2011 cover album. That album was actually originally not suppose to exist at all. Spider was contacted by Cleopatra to record a bunch of cover tunes and he thought they were gonna be used for tv or movies, but only to be surprised when the cover tracks were compiled together into the album known as "Copies Clones & Replicants". But overall, this documentary video is really spot on. I enjoyed every moment of it!

Happy to see a recent video talking about Powerman! I'm a recent fan, falling head over heels for them HARD. I've always wondered why I never found a band I truly wanted to know more about. Usually I just find songs I like and listen without too much thought to who the artist is. I'm an artist and animator and tend to listen to music more for feelings and experiences, things that fit my characters or convey my ideas perfectly. But man I don't know what it was about em, PM5K took over my mind. Their music was perfect to me, for once, the music wasn't just about my stories or my characters, it felt like music that fit me as a person. I will say their music has near full credit in bringing to life one of my major projects by sparking my inspiration and keeping me committed, but it still also just felt like everything I adored in one band. I love every album of theirs for what they are individually, I see the vision even if I recognize TTSR is for sure their peak. I hope they tour the east coast soon and am so excited for their upcoming album, Abandon Ship, as it looks like it may take us back to their roots. Thanks for the video!

I've been a huge PM5K fan since I was 11 and had never stopped loving them. I know that most people don't like it when their favorite band drastically changes their style and are quick to lose interest, but I totally dig it. It is a part of what makes PM5K themselves, they don't sit in a comfort zone, they poke around looking what they can do, and I love it.
Such a shame this band fell into oblivion, they deserved so much more. I'll never stop loving them.

    @R0D3R1CKV10L3NC3 Před 12 dny

I've loved Powerman 5000 for as long as I can remember. The first CD I ever bought for myself was "Tonight, The Stars Revolt". It's definitely obvious that Spider took a lot of influence from David Bowie in his musical career, not wanting to just find something that "worked" and keep making that, but to keep changing and challenging himself.
Even if some of their albums weren't my favorites at the time, I was never able to leave them out of rotation with the rest of my listening no matter what else I was was more into at any moment. When I was heavy into death metal, black metal, and the like? I still would have PM5K there for when I wanted to chill out. When I got into nerdcore and underground rap? Early PM5K fit right in with that anyway. Nowadays when I'm listening to a lot of prog and alternative? PM5K still slots right in. It's the beauty of Spider changing things up over the years, they cover so much ground that make them able to hit so many different angles. But it's a double edged sword, of course, because some fans only want more of the same, and aren't willing to deal with the changes, much like happened to Bowie when he changed things up, and people just wanted him to play his old stuff.

  • @hazelnut49

Taking Anyone For Doomsday off the self is what really kill the momentum for the band. Should just kept the release, ride it out, & then try something different. Love the band & seen them a dozen times, but they really do live off the success from Tonight's The Star Revolt to carry them on & everytime Spider changed the sound he alienate fans until he goes back to the old sound. But that's Spider, he does what he wants, & the band has more member changes than anyone probably becuase of that.

I was mostly into punk/ska/hardcore etc (you know Epitaph records, skater kid stuff) and was not a big fan of the nu-metal stuff, but I instantly took to PM5K. Not to into a lot of the newer stuff but there are couple I think are good. And I would love to know if you did a video on Union Underground, another awesome band that didn’t seem to go very far which was a disappointment. And I gotta say it seems that your not a NonPoint fan, 😂. Keep up the videos, it’s always cool to see old bands I use to love when I was a clean shaven, misbehaving teenager.

Long time fan of PM5k here, my first exposure to them was 'Son of X-51' from a compilation album, I later picked up Tonight The Stars Revolt as a teenager and became obsessed with that album. I was upset about the cancellation of AFD? The Transform era took awhile me for me to 'get' but I consider it one of the better releases of their blunder years. Seeing that you liked The Nobile Rot, I think you'll like their new album "Abandon Ship" which came out last week. It honestly sounds like a continuation of the sound from The Noble Rot. I saw them on tour after they released Somewhere On the Other Side of Nowhere. Spider was sick AF, sounded like he had laryngitis with how rough his voice sounded while talking... but man, he put on one of the BEST shows I've ever been to. He took swigs out of a honey bear on stage, would whisper sweet nothings to it to give himself a minute, then get right back at it and the show was amazing. Despite how sick he sounded, Spider still sang great, put on a hell of a show, and was hands down the most energetic performer I've ever seen to this day (also, got to see the helmets up close at the front and center of the stage and they were so cool). I still judge other concerts to that standard. I did go to the Freaks on Parade tour, but unfortunately, due to the 2+ hour drive, freak traffic accidents, venue problems... We missed their set and I was absolutely crushed. I heard a tad of the last song they were doing as we walked in, but not enough to say if they lived up to the last show I saw of theirs. I hope I can catch them again soon. You're absolutely right that they have some other really cool sounds that they have put out that keeps me coming back and checking in, even if most of what is in my consistent listening rotations focus on Stars Revolt, Doomsday, and Somewhere. Thanks for the video, they are definitely an underrated band and it was cool to learn some things about some of their earlier work (pre-Kung-Fu Radio).

Cool band. I hear them for the first time and it sounds exciting! There is another band I heared first time a half a year before and now I love it so much! It's called Pitchshifter. There is bunch of music videos and lives in CZcams, but no videos about this band like nobody cares. Did you hear them before?

Mega Kung Fu Radio my favorite, they deffo should've stayed with that sound. They went to be a completely different band with each album. A real identity crisis.

I saw Powerman 5000 on tour with Korn and Papa Roach in 2001. Spider Zombie called out a couple people in the crowd said they looked like people who watched Carson Daily and TRL on mtv.

It was never 100% clear to me at the time whether they were genuinely inspired by current music trends or shamelessly jumping on bandwagons. There were definitely some cringey swings and misses but I applaud them on not being afraid to switch things up so frequently.

I'm going with jumping on bandwagon/trends. Each album is trying really hard to get its thumb on a pulse. Revolt was really the only one that got it.

Here I am after asking myself this question. I loved this band. I had tickets to see them with Wayne Static 13 days after his death. That would have been my first time seeing them. True force was good but stars revolt was without question their best album. I believe Billy Idol was a huge influence on his style, look and sound but with his own twist.
