    Scary to think that it may have been rolled inside a rug. Likelyhood of it being in good condition after that very little. I was at the Gardner's a couple of months before the theft, my husband and I commented on the lack of security at the museum. We were saddened when the theft happened, but not surprised.

    Not only is the theft of art heinous - I find the prices that so many pieces of art are sold for to be reprehensible. Unless personally commissioned, it seems to me that art should belong to the public and placed in museums or, if religious works, in churches. Just my opinion. :)

      I agree 100%. It is heartbreaking to think about what happens to stolen art :(

      @@AccessibleArtHistory Yes, it is. The thieves appear to have no knowledge of, or make attempts at, using care in handling this art. Simply cutting it from its frame and rolling it up - storing it, God knows how - only serves to damage or even destroy the work.
