I’m Navajo and I can understand this song. Yes they don’t look like humans when they’re skinwalking, mostly they look animal. But they imitate voices. I think she means when a skinwalker can walk among people in their human form, during the day, they can fool people, and no one knows just how evil they are.
On the reservation it’s taboo to talk abt them especially at night. You’ll find most Navajos prefer not to tell stories. Once in awhile I heard stores, my father saw one that had the legs of a horse, torso and head of a dog and human arms. They’re very dangerous, and tricky. We call them “yee naaldlooshii” in our language. It means “one who runs on all fours”

You see that in every culture unfortunately. You see that in the concept of "Satan" in the Christian mythos. Back for the 50th time. I’ve come to realize that this can be an anthem for adult children of narcissists. Like skinwalkers, narcissists can claim to have character qualities and morals that they don’t really have, and project their flaws and insecurities onto you. I’m dealing with the emotional aftermath of understanding my dad is a narcissist , which won’t change, but Skinwalker has been empowering for me and a safe way to feel my anger. Thank you Zheani. Narcissistic personality disorder is notoriously hard to get diagnosed as well. Having a parent mistreat you and manipulate you is damaging no matter what, and learning how to cope with a narcissist has helped me find some peace. You can look all this up if you want to read for yourself.

@@clu1632 skin walker was a term that used to be used on tumblr to essentially mean poser. when zheani wrote this she had no idea about the significance it has in Navajo culture, it’s not meant to be anything to do with that, and it’s not her fault it happens to be something in that culture since she didn’t know and she found the term in a completely different context, so i’m sorry if you found it offensive but i’d like to apologise on her behalf since she definitely has no bad intentions with it, she was just oblivious. Zheani is probably the least ‘packaged’ person you’ll find in the music industry right now, she definitely stands for being uncensored and not selling out to the highest degree, what she does is completely herself. As for her witchyness, she genuinely does practice it, and has since 2013 or earlier as far as i know, i’ve seen her talk about it many times and she posts rituals on her patreon, but that’s more performance art so it’s neither here nor there, i don’t know to what teaching or degree, but it’s not just her aesthetic, she believes in the spiritual to do with witchcraft. again, not sure of what teaching, but that’s what i know. So i’m sorry you feel that way about her but i hope that you can take it from a big fan that i think you’re wrong about her. Just my two cents.
