I’ll always remember my Grandfather telling me “Its not how you start, its how you finish”. England played their best game of the tournament but just couldn’t keep their composure in the final 10 minutes. SA’s big match temperament and sheer bloody-mindedness got them over the line. This is Rugby. ❤Respect. 🙌🏽

SA was the only team that scored a try, passed on some penalty kicks to play for tries, and changed their game plan to get the win. The scrum is obviously a huge part of game, otherwise you wouldn’t need props lugging around all that bulk. England played an excellent 65 minutes and absolutely deserve full credit for that - but they couldn’t score a try, and lost it to the depth of the Springbok pack. There was a lot in that 1 point difference.

Funny when Ireland lost to NZ it was because of their brilliance, nothing to do with the terrible group sequence, SA were outplayed for most of the game and were extremely lucky to win that penalty at the end, Ireland should really have had a penalty awarded in the last couple of minutes and they could have nicked that one, a bit of luck at the right time makes all the difference. Fair play to Pollard for his clutch kick.

Boks were down 15 to 6. England had been better and deserved to be there. They had a chance, more than one in fact, to put it away but they didn't, or couldn't. The Boks found the resolve to get away from their line and scored a coverted try to make it 15-13.
They then put themselves in the right place to benefit from whatever calls went their way and thats what happened. They called a scrum in their 22 after fielding a ball. It was more than one moment.

Fair weather English rugby fan here, first time I’ve watched rugby since the last World Cup as I’m living in the states now. What I didn’t understand was England’s unwillingness to run with the ball and keep possession especially so in the last 20 minutes it seemed like we had some amazing possession but we would immediately kick the ball back to them. I’m sure there was a stage where we could have kept the ball and worked towards creating a drop goal attempt but we just gave it straight back to them. Also feel like we missed some amazing opportunities to score a try, but it felt like we didn’t even want to score one. That lineout we had right on there line seemed to be a huge missed opportunity. Based on all the views of rugby experts this week I thought we were going to get battered so for that not to happen seemed like a victory in itself BUT I was left feeling like it was a huge opportunity missed.

Great program guys! Always, always awesome! My 2 cents: When the Boks play, they ALWAYS go to war. Real war. That means planning from EVERY aspect. Every angle. Both on the field and off. Both reffing decisions and conditions. Both HIAs and cards. Everything. I'm sure most other teams do that as well. But. The Boks just do it all marginally (and I do mean marginally) better. It makes a tiny difference. Perhaps by a point. Or 2 points. However, what they do definitely do better, is grasp the concept of war. We will use some, we will win some. That's a given. But their war has real relevance. Agree or not, understand or not, but their war does bring hope and meaning to millions. Real hope and real meaning. The win last night ignited a nation. Lose next week and it deflates a nation. That's huge. It's huge because it makes a real, tangible difference in people's lives. In closing, England, you were nothing short of magnificent last night. Magnificent (and I'm your enemy). But respect in every sense. And your sportsmanship post-game was even bigger than your hearts on the field. Well done and well played. You WILL have your time. Wow, wow, wow. I'm lost for words. James Haskell is now the definition of "Whinging Pom". Sorry that's not now or never has been politically correct, but boy did he just define it. It wasn't the ref calling one penalty on one scrum that lost England that game, it was their inability to put the Bok to the death, to play a game where they can stack on points. It's a typical pattern I've seen in Northern hemisphere games, shutting down in later parts of games, to just defend what they think is a winning lead. That mentality was obvious last night and it cost you dearly. By the time England realized they needed more points, they had been out-subbed by South Africa and were now the 2nd best team in the park. So depth (benches) and late game management are what cost England.
Moaning about scrums and the ref is just an upset Englishmen. The scrums were not boring, the relentless back and forth aerial ping pong sure was. It's why I hope against hope we have a dry final.

Well said James Haskell. It was a brave effort yesterday. Bodies put on the line from the start to the end. It was a very cruel ending for the team and supporters.

As an Irish fan, I've always thought that England should never shy away from their strengths in Rugby, and that has always been and will always be forward play. South Africa is the same, but you never hear the Boks or their fans apologise for how they play, nor should they, when pundits or fans from other countries slag their play as boring or one-dimensional etc. The books shrug their shoulders and tell you this is how we play, and if you want to beat us, you'll have to meet and beat us in the trenches. England should be the same. Don't be lured into playing more expansive, more sexy rugby because of what others say. England will always produce huge forwards in big numbers and the scrum, lineout and maul is where England should plant their flag.

England only made it this far because of the draw. They sucked coming in they sucked last night. They couldn't beat a tired bok team worn down by a massive game against France, with a short turnaround. Never planned on scoring a try. Just wanted to win off kicks. WEAK!!
Farrell is a cynical negetive player who cost ENG the game with his rotten attitude. He also could've made things worse with his yellow card worthy lifting of the knee whilst in an offside position on the floor, to disturb de allende pass causing de allende to mess up his pass close to the ENG try line. Lucky ref was looking for an ENG win and didn't ping him.

Guys seriously. England had only one game plan they could have played and they played it brilliantly! Slow, spoiling, kicking, kicking, kicking. Their problem is: that is all they can do. They have very few other ways to play. England has a major problem - huge amounts of work to do.

4:50 The Captain IS a lunatic. If it wasnt for his idiotic behaviour behaving like a prat by holding onto the ball after the penalty was awarded, the Boks wouldn't have been given another 10m - easier kick. That one moment alone would have won the English the game.

Key players have been developed through this RWC which should be there over the next few years; Mitchell as SH, Smith as FH, Steward as FB, Martin and Chessum as SR, Earl & Curry in backrow. Those 7 players are the spine of the team. We need some decent front rowers and that is the biggest weakness.

This point was made on a Irish rugby show and I agree with it, Rugby is a sport and sport is entertainment and to make rugby entertaining to anyone other than diehard fans something has to be done about the scrums. If you have a dominant pack you’re going to use it to get penalties, but if you’re a newby what would you sooner watch, England playing a grinding match with few or no trys or the All Blacks, or Fiji, spinning it along the backline? Simplistic, I know, but you get the gist.

I can guarantee you that 99.9% of Bok supporters thought that England had us, and they did for the most part. Great game plan which they executed really well, but we managed to find a way. Shows the strength in depth and character we have. Love to see England lose but respect to what they achieved from where they came from.
