So I rewatched the Review Must Go On because I thought about it. And then on the side was this video, I'm now watching this. I'm here in May of 2021.
What was he thinking when he thought Demo Reel would take over NC?
Here's what he was thinking:
"It worked for Be Kind Rewind.. Oh wait, what *is* Jack Black doing these days anyway?"
Well he just got his own studio, and he felt he was too restrained with NC, he wanted to take full advantage of the studio and all, and since NC was just him with a white wall, it wouldn't work. But after Demo Reel bombed and he had to face that he needed the NC again, he found a workarround by making the reviews more complex and making more skits to take advantage of the studio.
I think its undestandable, he wanted to grow up and was misguided for a sec there, but he eventually found a better way while keeping his signature character.
Fanatic Fanatic the real irony is that his clip less videos where they recreate the films for their reviews are kind of a spiritual successor to Demo Reel. And they do extremely well.
But Demo Reel _has_ taken over NC.
How many minutes did skits use to take up vs now?
That's Doug trying to break out of NC and back into DR. He has to at least attempt at keeping it NC, at least at face value, otherwise he'd lose even more viewers, but he wants DR so badly it's almost palpable.
Doug Walker is a better actor than most of the actors he reviews

fantastic review Critic, that was great except it should have ended with Doug editing the review and then pan out to douchey editing the review of the review and then paned out to see Phelous editing the review since he is all aboot meta humour, that would have steven spielberg levels amazing but this will suffice XD but seriously great video Doug, may the review go on.

Well, you should probably try making a few reviews of some sort, yourself. I'm currently working on my largest review production yet, and I've been slowly finding more people I can collaborate with!

i just gotta give Doug a ton of props for how he's handled the reaction to demo reel. It was a project he was really excited for and it can't be easy to get such a negative reaction on something you love so much, but through it all he's managed to keep a good sense of humor about it. I've been an NC fan for almost a decade, and while there have been ups and downs with the sites, the content, and creators, Doug has really grown as an entertainer and as, i feel at least, a person. Sure i can say "give us the old NC!! We want the old style!!!!" and maybe he'll sprinkle in that style every once in a while. But even if he doesn't, i can fully appreciate what he's created for a decade now. He has given up countless hours of his life to bring us entertainment, and if that means sacrificing some formats in order for him to remain happy while doing it, then i say God bless him, the man works hard. I appreciate the hell out of you Doug, thanks for the years of laughs!

I started watching you during the point that you stopped making Nostalgia Critic videos. It didn't take long before I went through your full catalog and was hooked. I'd re-watched some of my favourite reviews, but like a common junkie I wanted MORE! It took what felt like an eternity, but when you announced your return I was pumped. Haven't missed an episode since. I think you'd agree when I say you're the best CZcamsr ever.
This came out like a month after I moved from home. Big, .. nice suprise. I actually got pretty emotional watching this. I was deeply moved by NC return and this video. I was SO happy.
The entire episode is worth watching again just for Brad's perfect delivery

Oh, man. I first discovered the NC the week he cancelled the show. I remember binging through all of his stuff in those six months, an after school tradition. And I still remember how damned excited I was when The Review Must Go On came out. I don't watch NC quite as much as I used to, but he will always have a special place in my heart. This review genuinely gave me nostalgia. Thanks, Doug.

Following the premiere of "Demo Reel", its defenders would constantly say people just had to accept that "The Nostalgia Critic" was never coming back. When "Review Must Go On" happened, it was quite vindicating :).

I wasn't around when NC left and came back, but when I saw The Review Must Go On again recently, as someone who's created characters, I felt for Doug's passion and attachment for his character and wanting to come back. I did really enjoy "The Review Must Go On" seeing a number of connections between it and at least a couple different episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." It was very well made, edited, directed and everything. Just looked nice and meta layers work very nicely as well.

I know this review is all in good fun, but during that six month hiatus, I went through a nasty, terrible break up with the woman I thought I was going to marry. My heart was broken, and nothing in life seemed good, or happy, or even made me smile. Then I saw TRMGO, and I saw that the Critic was coming back, and that alone gave me the one thing I needed: a smile. I can't thank Doug enough for giving me that smile, and all it took was that smile to slowly get back up and get on with my life.
Has anyone else notice how much this film is like "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya"?

I only found out about The NC during the 6 months of Demo Reel, and... well I was sad to see it gone. But when I watched this, I was really excited.
Love the format in this, glad you're still going on.
