    This is the comparatively easy repair of a Panasonic cassette tape recorder / player that I believe comes from the early 1980s.

    I’ve literally got the rq-2103 right next to me and it looks almost identical to your model. Had it forever; still works great. About to frankenstein some sort of a 6v dc input so it works from a 110v wall outlet instead of C batteries. Yay cassette tapes! Hooray for all the cool stuff 99% of people consider junk that’s probably older than me and has outlasted every iphone I’ve had by an average of 10x. Haven’t seen any new tapes on the shelves though since 2013 in Las Vegas which is the last time I needed something specific, walked into a Radio Shack (RIP) and found exactly what I was looking for.

    I have a very simple Panasonic. This definitely helps. Good choice of music too. 😊 it seems to be playing a bit slow though

    Enjoyed the video. This recorder is from 1979 based on the code on the flywheel plate.

    I took apart one ☝️ of these, but the name was RCA. I can’t remember what was wrong 😑 with it, but working on one ☝️ of these can be a little tricky. The parts are quite small, crammed closely together, and can easily be damaged. Unless you’ve got about all the time in the day, you’ll probably make the repair 👩‍🔧 just fine 😅. I can see that you’ve got a better cassette recorder than ones made today. Your friend, Jeff.

    Panasonic Rq-3145 but there's almost a high pitch sound when raising volume and a slowness to the sound. Would you have a guess on what my issues may be?

    • @sfred
      @sfred  Před rokem

      That might be two separate issues. For speed issues, I’d try a new belt first. I’m not sure what’s causing the interference, but it could be from the motor. The most likely cause is bad routing of the wiring harness. I don’t recall if there’s a noise suppression capacitor on this tape recorder but if so you could also try that. Test with batteries and away from other electronics to rule out the power supply or external interference.

      @@sfred Well I got a Tascam Porta05 replacement belt kit... But do you know what size for these models you have to get? Or share an ebay link?

      In this video I used a walkman-style belt, 0.7 mm square. It worked, but this was not the correct belt. The correct one should have a rectangular cross section. The only way to be sure is to open up your machine and see what size it is.
