I think you are 100% correct that Daboll understands the stakes. So you wonder how long the leash is for the QB this year, and for that matter, Evan Neal.

Had not listened to Pat's podcasts in prior years, but am impressed by his takes and his access to practices. I do take issue with his concerns about the RB situation. The fact is that Barkley got a lot of yardage simply because he got a ton of carries. His gains over expectation were completely unimpressive. If Tracey is the steal that we hope him to be, this group might actually be a step up. I do appreciate the comments about the OL -- I remain terrified by the situation. If Eluemunor starts at OG and sustains an injury, there is no back-up if Neal continues to fail.
Thanks, James! Glad to have you here watching and participating. Thanks for the insight. You're right that there is some hope for potential in some of the young RBs, but in the NFL, 'hope' does not suffice as sufficiently addressing a position and fortifying for the long season, in my opinion. There are instances where it pays off, but typically in the league you need proven capability at these positions, not a roll of the dice, if you will (from my vantage point). I still think they look like they need a bigger, downhill runner, too, although they probably will run the ball a lot less.
Pat. I'm writing this comment only a few minutes into the Pod that I missed. If you recall, you and I talked about whether we would see a change in how Daboll prepares the team in the preseason from the disastrous 2023 season. I think it would have been a collossal mistake to just run the same program back this year. I'm happy to hear it and I guess we will see whether the changes make a difference.

I agree we could have used an offensive lineman, but what round did you want to grab one versus who we got. We needed a true wr1, we needed a safety after losing X, and we needed a TE after Waller’s hesitancy. We also needed help in secondary and rb. I just don’t think grabbing one in rounds 4+ was 100% necessary. Giants had a ton of holes and they decided to fill o-line via free agency and assume Neal will improve given his age and injury.
They drafted for need, to your point. Maybe that was the correct strategy. But you want to draft the best players at important positions, and I would argue their O-line needed that player as much as any other position in those middle rounds (2, 3 or 4)
I hope they're working on blocking for field goals .
Miller is our only homerun break away RB who can turn the edge for explosive plays, which also compliments Singletary and Corbin. He also has strength for pass protection and special teams. 4 RB should be Singletary, Corbin, Tracey, Miller. Gray to PS to bulk up for pass protection.
Miller has never played in the NFL. So hopefully he's a great complement, but that's an unknown commodity
@@PLonNFL Yeah, definately a chg of pace guy. But it's his strength, smarts, and work ethic that have me optimistic and eager to see what he can do this preseason and camp. Hoping for Achane/Pacheco type play.
Someone mentioned DJ having above .9 fumbles per start in his career. That is not accurate. DJ’s career is .75 and Pat was right to mention removing his rookie year. He’s actually below the league average the past 3 seasons.
Starts and Fumbles last 3 seasons:
33 starts, 17 fumbles (only lost 7)
DJ’s per game average = .51
League per game average = .6
And if you only remove DJ’s rookie year he’s still below this all time league average at .59.
So let’s be fair here. The fan also said it’s in history so let DJ finish his career as well. He’s literally better than average in 4/5 years
DJ 75TDs and 64 turnovers, way below min acceptable 2:1. 2022 was only min acceptable year 22TD:8TO.

NFL QB average fumbles/game since 2010 is .43, Since QB hitting rules have changed DJ fumbles way more than league average. Only 2022 was better.
@@Thagomizer-U235 Show the numbers and just exclude his rookie year. I’m not saying you are wrong, but you are just saying his are much worse and the other guy was wrong on his. It’s fine if you are right, but show it.
I found 28 fumbles in 47 starts, which is .59 and that’s also with the leagues worst line or bottom 3.
To me one should really factor in hits to fumbles. I’ll tell you now, DJ is hit far more than average. And yes, some may be from holding too long, but he’s trying to make plays. He has so little time.
@@MJ-tu4ip I got same for last 4 years .59, and last 3 years 17 fumbles in 33 games .51, Statmuse has nfl ave qb fumble/game at .43 since 2010. So DJ fumbles more than league average since 2010. It isn't fair to compare him to qbs b4 qb hitting rules and arm fwd motion rules.
Waller needs to go, his only argument is his talent which is not what it used to be, he’s always hurt and he has proven that Football is just a job to him. Let him walk, use the money for depth
