I'm baffled that some refer to Jacob Zuma as a "grand master chess player" in the political arena. Chess is a game of strategy, but his recent moves have been anything but strategic. His campaign for the MK Party seemed more like a weapon to threaten the ANC, using it as a bargaining tool to force the ousting of President Ramaphosa. What did that achieve? Nothing substantial. Instead of being open to coalition talks, he demanded Ramaphosa's removal as a precondition, which led to the formation of the GNU. Attempting to halt the opening of parliament was another failed maneuver. It's laughable that only three months later, the party is finally establishing a constitution and structures. Calling these actions "strategic" is a stretch.
