  • 3 days of experimenting summarized in a short, 10 minute video.
The issue is inevidable. Sooner or later every chair will have it, simply due to the lack of engeneering that went into the lumbar suport.
A replacement backrest will only temporarily solve the issue, if at all. I, myself had 2 whole chairs, one knew, and one 1,5 Year used one, they both had the issue
I case you don't want to bother with replacement parts, here is the thing for you. This fixes the issue once and for all.

This video is a life saver. I don't understand why the chair doesn't come with built in zippers.

This was a god send! The noise was genuinely making me angry and I would dread sitting in the chair unless I had headphones on. The soft polymer is all I used so we shall see how long it lasts. I am disappointed that secret lab didn’t do something like this on there own from the start but I do love everything else about the chair. Atleast this video was here to help!🙏🏼

lol I've had this chair for like 2 years and never even noticed it had knob for lumbar support... I just now turned the knob and the creaking stopped. I'm sure it won't last forever but at least it gives me a break until I get around to doing this fix.

I got my replacement backrest a week ago and it just creaked for the first time, so naturally I went on youtube and found this video. Will definitely give it a try, great video my dude!

When did you guys get the chairs?
Some say Secretlabs have fixed this in newer chairs, while some seem to have the issue even if having kinda new ones.

I bought a chair a couple of months ago. It had the issue, so I ended up returning it. The one you see in the video is a used one i bought on ebay. It's around 1.5 - 2 years old. @@Tomapon

      Thanks for the reply!
That seems to be a relatively common problem with these chairs, and I don't really want to gamble to see whether I'll be lucky to get a chair without noise or not.
Way too many reviews mention similar things.

Looks like I'll need to do this to both my Secret Labs chairs. The sound is driving me nuts. It's also making a creaking sound when tilting back, but not a full squeak. Just momentarily, as if the static friction of the tilt axle is sticking and then releases. You can even feel it resist leaning ever so slightly and then it creaks and releases. I may have to open that tilt case up too, but I wish I could find a video of that so I know what I'm getting into ahead of time. Till then, thanks for your video. It helps me visualize the process before diving in.

Have you tried just lubricating these places with silicone grease?

Not really, didn't have lubricant at hand at that time, also didn't bother buying one

Why do I need 2 types of polyester fabric? Can’t I just use soft polyester for the whole thing? Just curious before I start the process.

    • @SLMods
      @SLMods  Před 11 měsíci

      Valid question.
Using 2 different types makes the padding "thicker", while keeping some firmness. 2 Soft fabrics, in my case, might have been too cushiony, resulting in the metal bar sinking in too much and ripping everything off the plastic when mooved.
Despite that, the hard (and therefore durable) polyester part serves as a sort of back up in case the top, soft pars wears off (but that's very unlikely to happen).
Also, a thought that came while writing this: The hard one might also be easier to remove from the plastic of the chair, but i'm not very sure about this one.
You can only use the soft type, this probably won't change much, if anything at all.
Feel free to correct me, I haven't given it that much thought, to be honest.
