less scary because the right brothers where not stupid enough to throw there asses off a high platform instead opting to try and actually take up from flat ground and maintain a flight a few feet off the ground you actually would have been higher just walking upstairs

Some of these designs could fly if it wasn't for the launch. Taking off seems hard to do. Crosswinds aren't helping either.
I'm curious on the limitations. It seems really obvious to have minimal loose wiring around and to have at the very least elevator control. Quite depressing that MIT schools can't even make a proper glider without accounting for wind, balance, and separation from push contraption.

More works needs to be done with the launch trolleys. You could test flying ok but launching on the trolley which drop off has differnt forces.
Redbull make the best games and if they don't make them they do it better than anyone else

Yeah not wrong, a lot of leading edge and chord to play with so potential for washout to the tip etc. For CG you could just shift the pilots arse by a few CM!

There should be a crosswind limit.
So why did the MIT craft have the elevator in the down position on take off? It responded as expected and nose dived.
I suspect the strategy was to dive to get more airspeed to be able to get some lift into those wings, then pitch back up. For whatever reason, that mechanism failed. The reason most of these don't fly is because they're too close to stall speed and don't generate any lift, even if the thing is well designed. One of the world records was set with the dive strategy

As a pilot that MIT thing looked like a disaster before it moved. Who though of some idea of opposing horizontal lift in the winglets? Not to mention the flat surface on the leading edge of the vertical stabiliser. BUT they clearly spent a lot of focus on a generic wing design and then more on making sure it was well built, it looked like it anyway. Everything else though is just laughable at best and pure pus at worst.

still I believe the biggest disaster was 2010 Bucharest, the piano jump. the girl "piloting" got severe spinal injury by ignoring physics. so stupid, and so big disaster!
