    No matter how fun, how hard working, how gregarious, how smart or how good a team player you are, they will forget about you in a week's time. They are not really your friends, they are your colleagues....big distinction....Enjoy what you have and the little time you have left...

      Was she diagnosed with a terminal illness? I ask because this is the first time I have encountered her channel and may not be aware if so. She looks to me like she is in her early 60s and in very good health. 60s is relatively young so I don't get why you would write "the little time you have left". Thank you.

      How true. I dedicated my life to helping co-wrkers, staying late every night unpaid, for years. I retired & not one call or visit. It was overwhelmingly sad. Now I only make me happy.

    I am walking in very similar shoes, dear lady. I followed through on the decision to retire early a couple of months ago. I was a SCADA engineer and the pressure of the job was just getting too much.
    I'm an older fellow, as noted, and the skill set I have is a rare one; one that grows more rare the more experience you have. You'd think that was a good thing as, surely, that means you are always in demand and get rewarded accordingly. The first part is true :chuckles: Britain does not pay it's engineers well, no matter how important the work you do is.
    I have a distinct memory from about eight years ago of sitting in the annual corporate meeting and finding out that I had personally been responsible for bringing in seven and a half million for the company ... and they in turn paid me less than 30k, That is what I think started the 'retirement' gears turning in the back of my mind because the work is stressful and difficult and if you make a mistake that makes it out into the real world then all hell breaks lose :eek: There is a reason why a lot of us have grey hair!
    Anyhoo, I finally reached the point a couple of months back when the numbers started to look viable to stop working and coast into retirement proper in five years time. Now I find myself in exactly the same mindset as yourself, thinking that maybe I need to start looking for another job :eek:. The stock market has collapsed and stripped many thousands from my pension pot, leaving me in a situation that is no longer in the 'tight but doable' category. The markets will recover, making it possible for me to again withdraw from my pensions at need; it is a question of when.
    For now, I have about a year to decide what to do before I have to get the begging bowl out :D
    So, I have swapped one form of daily stress for a different kind of stress that comes from having only outgoings and no income.

    • @KerriePatersonAuthor
      @KerriePatersonAuthor  Před měsícem +1

      My original background is in IT and I worked for a manufacturing company for about 10 years with some exposure to SCADA. So I can understand the stress you're under! Congrats on your pending retirement and good luck with your decision!

    I'm counting down the days when I retire in 2026. Although like you I really dread that last paycheque!!! I do have a pension, small albeit, but am also saving more on the side. I want to downsize and enjoy my grandkids and family. Honestly, I soooo wish I had planned better and not wanted to follow the "Jones's". Had I been a little better with my budget I could have retired way earlier and had more time with my kids. My family is way more important than anything else and not the car, purse or shoes!! AND, I can tell you for sure once I leave work, it'll be the very last time I think of it and my colleagues......SIGH counting down the days. Enjoy your time.

    Hi Kerrie, I don’t know why but your Chanel was recommended to me but I’m glad it was as I’m really enjoying watching you on this new chapter in your life.
    I’m from Liverpool England and I too have been embracing a new chapter in my life too but under totally different circumstances than yours. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and going through 12 months of treatment I have found that at 61 years of age I am unable to return to work as although I am in remission I have been left with some debilitating side effects from treatment.
    I don’t travel, I live in a bricks and mortar home but have found that I have fallen easily into this new way of life that doesn’t include work. I now have the opportunity to live at a slower pace and get to enjoy having the freedom to read, and enjoy my hobbies…. Every cloud has a silver lining hey!!
    Good luck Kerrie with everything xx

    Hi, Kerrie. I left my day job in higher education to become a full-time romance author 4 years ago, and I hear you about losing track of the days! My top tip for staying active is to combine your work process with movement.
    (edit to add that I can now see that you live in an RV, so my treadmill desk solution won't suit you, but I hope it illustrates that there is always a way!)
    Regardless, I'm so pleased that you are prioritising health. It is easy to feel like you cannot be away from your desk, especially if writing is your income, but health truly is wealth. I'm 55 now, and have no regrets. I wish you as much joy!

    Just found your channel (or, it found me!) I was retired from my job May 31 at the end of the contract period. I am so very glad I did not accept a similar role on a different contract. It was not interesting, and I had been planning on retiring next March anyways. I hear/feel you on many levels. That first Saturday night I went into pre-Monday mode, and it was such a JOY to stop myself! And I, too, am losing track of days. And also wondering how I ever had time for everything when working FT. Now I will focus on building my own new YT channel in advance of a move to France.
    Wish you much success in all the plans!

    Great to hear that the writing is going well. Remember to pad yourself on the back. Also I think you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Take one thing at a time. Eating healthy is great but, with all due respect, don’t do it to loose weight. Do it in a manner that feels good to you and out of self care 🌺 You are exactly as you should be.

    • @KerriePatersonAuthor
      @KerriePatersonAuthor  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks Anne! I do forget to pat myself on the back for what I have achieved - always focusing on what's next, so thanks for the reminder! Great to hear the writing is going well! Walking becomes additive ... during the two years I've been deliberately tracking my step count on my phone, I have tripled my average number of steps per day, and I love watching that graph steadily rise from one month to the next. I also love the places I get to explore (not so much the laps of shopping centres on cold rainy days). Enjoy your travels and writing conference.

In a few years, i will qualify for a program to help fix major issues. If not, i will sell and downsize as i am VERY isolated. 40 minutes to the nearest hospital with dirt roads...if i get injured or fall seriously ill...emergency vehicles can't get here in raining seasons....

A good App for tracking your food is Lose It! Really helped me change my lifestyle, and since July of 2022 I have lost over 50 pounds. The App is great because I just plug in what I have just eaten and then the App gives me a range of calories to eat to stay at my current weight. I can eyeball the portion sizes and it is mainly just to help me stay balanced, which is what you were talking about here. Hope to read your book.😊
