Fading Steps:
Trim top to desired length
- 5 guard on top
- Set in guideline with 0 lever closed
- lever open set in next guideline
- 1 guard lever open next guideline
- 2 & 3 guard blend up
- Blend out top guideline w/ 1.5 guard open to 3 qtr
- Blend second guideline w/ .5 guard open to 3 qtr
- Continue blending second guideline w/ 1 guard open to 3 qtr
- Blend first guideline w lever open a bit, then halfway, then 3/4, then all the way.
- Do any touch up work
- Use trimmers to take out bottom hair
- Use electric shaver
- Do any line up with trimmers
- Shave with straight razor

I been watching your channel since the quarantine began... 2020. I've been cutting my Dad and Son's hair since. Shh... I been doing just a-okay! Thanks to you guys. My husband was a Barber, but he never taught me... God rest his soul. Been over 10 year's now. So I just learn on my own. I don't have your exact set up, but I make do. My Dad is 71, full head of shinny sliver hair... Retired Military a long time ago... at first, he was getting mad at me, cause I just couldn't get the sides down- was like too puffy (think I was scared). Now I got a lil trick. 😅😅😅 My son was getting nutz with me cause my lines wasn't fading out so well... but you know what... It wasn't that bad. Like I can see the lines really good. My eye's were trained to. Watching haircuts for over 12 years... My son can see them too. I wish I could show you guy's pics, cause it really wasn't that bad. I just never knew I had to flick it out on the edge of the blade. But now, I'm better. His scalp is soo white and his hair is soo dark, so if there's any shadows, you can see it. But now... I'm becoming pretty good. My edging was always 100. I do eyebrows, so on the edging, I had that from the start. I would just like to say, Mahalo from Hawai'i. Been a big help to me and my Ohana during the quarantine and our's was super long due to all the darn tourist. But gotta make due with what you can. Long as I'm improving... I even surprised myself. I cut my daughter's hair all by myself and it came out awesome. Her hair was past her waist, super thick Hawaiian hair. It came out nice. Her brows are always on point, both my kids and my mom and dad. I like to do nails too. So I do that for all of them. Pedis and Manis. I wax whatever they wanna wax. Waxing is fun to me. I got two teenagers. Now that the shops are open again, my son see's his Uncle Barber again. He creates all these designs and stuff, that's just how he likes his hair- killer fade with his idea on some major designs. Last one was a nice side comb over fade with his initials in a tag font- he made his sis draw it out. She's amazing, she can draw super good. I did some designs on his head, I used brown eyeshadow and the single blade. Came out okay. Was a 3 stars on the side to half back of his head. My daughter helped me make the stars straight on his head. LOL. I just need more practice on the fade. I realized that I'm using the comb backward for some reason. When I try from the bottom and comb up, I don't pick up any hair. I go downwards then buzz off the excess with the buzzer. I can practice on my Dad, my big bro won't let me. 😅😅😅 Mahalo Kē Akuā! 🙌🏼💞🙌🏼💞 Aloha, Davina 🌺🌺🌺 p.s. There's a root touch up spray, awesome for enhancements. Hope he's not mad that I cut our son, tint knick around the ear, when I was learning to use the edger. Hehe. My son wasn't mad. He was like wow mom. I got it now, it's a very light hand. I should of had used the single blade, I was always better using that. But now I got the tiny trimmer for around the ears. I don't trust myself after that one. Maybe he'll come visit me in my dream and give me some advice. I still get to practice on my Dad. This last one I did, just on Thursday... I think Kevin would be probably proud of me. I actually did a full blend, no hard lines or visible lines. Thank you for your very kind words. I appreciate it very much. I still Kevin all the time and it's been over 10 year's... Thank you bro! Still trying to make this feel natural lol, kinda hard for me. And yes learning to teach is a whole other ball game I’m trying to improve on but thank you. I honestly never tried that one so idk for sure but it should work the same, also try using liquid makeup those don’t clog up the guns especially when you dilute it.

I watched his tutorial video before cutting my own hair last night ,my hair cut came out great.
I wish we had a barber like you in this small town. I did part of a deployment in El Salvador and the barbers at Ruffians were legit! Even got a beer while we waited. I want a barber shop like that! And the cuts were so detailed just like what you are doing! Love it!

Clean cut and thanks for the education you provide. I noticed that throughout the video you used the 5 star senior clippers but in the description you mentioned another set of clippers as well. My question to you is which set would you recommend to be the best for a beginner barber to get started with who wants to get really good one day? the limural set is for a budget but still good quality, I would recommend just buying the seniors, and be done with it

instead of the 5 against the grain, you can also do a 2 open / 3 closed with the grain, for the top. Depending on the hair type. Nice vid.

I probably can but there’s just no way of teaching it that way there has to be certain steps to follow if not it be hard to understand.
