When I was around 10 years old I was fishing in a local perch pond, I ran out of maggots so I used the Hubba bubba bubble gum I was chewing and I caught a perch first cast 😀
Well fish do tend to have a sweet tooth! 😉

@@adamsimpson7774 18lb carp on a rowntrees fruit pastel. I'd nearly ran out of bait but we were going to be hanging around for a while. Baited 2 rods with my last baits and 1 got a sweet.

i used red liqorice over 20 years ago on our canal, and had lots of big perch
I'm proud to comment that, I also have caught on a bogey. A six ounce Dace. When young you have to mess about at the end when you boredom limit was reached. Chuffed me and Andy got common ground. Love this series
In the 80's we used to catch loads of chub on pieces of steak on the Trent with a pound of mince meat and brown crumb in an open end feeder.
Rich try 1lb bottom hook length to see who’s best at playing the big fish. Love the channel.

It’s also not good catching the same fish day in day out, and keeping fish in a keep nets for 6 - 7 hours at a time, some match are 6 hours long and you then have to wait for the way in. But match men think that’s ok. With out dout this causes more harm than any thing. Using 10-15 lb line and 18 elastic is fair ye.
I don't know about Andy and Jamie, but you deserve a medal for coming up with these fantastic challenges Rich. Big up to all you guys, so entertaining even the Mrs watches, and is amused. Good job.
Absolutely brilliant! Hearing what Andy "moulded" the Fjuka in to had me laughing in a manner that got me a right look off the Mrs. Childish? Yes, but it's all about enjoying yourself innit! The most laughs I've had in a while, thanks chaps
I hate it when the video comes to an end. You guys should do a bait increase with every catch, so start off with say 100 maggots and for every catch you get you have an extra hundred added to your box. Excellent stuff gents!

When I was a kid I found a random white grub , much bigger than a maggot crawling on the soil near my peg, put it on the hook and caught a 2lb Roach ;P

I've caught on Skittles. But nothing beats me catching a Bream when it wrapped itself up in my line and there was nothing else attached (no float, hook or bait!)
On holiday a couple of years ago we went out to the local pub for dinner I had sirloin steak which was like rubber. So I took it back and used it as hook bait the following day, and bagged up on carp.
My dad completely beat me up at a carp venue, with cherry flavoured pipe tobacco and sweet corn 😀

Ahhhh I'm showing my age a bit here but I can remember most of the baits here were very valid baits at one time or another.
Stewing steak was a top bait for chub on the Trent, baked beans were great as long as you rinse off the tomato sauce 😆
Par boiled potatoes were a popular carp bait, and cheese was something I used myself at times. I imagine hot dog 'sausages' are a pretty good alternative to truncheon meat, as pepperami used to be in my matchfishing days.
A lot of fish get fed leftovers and stuff at some venues so I imagine they'll eat almost anything....especially on well stocked carp pools, where you can catch on anything 👍
Usually lads your videos crack me up but also inspire me this time you also made me hungry watching that and Andy I'm with you it's half a cabbage with foil over it cheese and pineapple are the best

i had a few years off from fishing till last year once you were able to go with the lockdown rules. found you guys on youtube while in lockdown an you pair together made me realise how much fun i was missing fishing. it was great to get back into it.

I've had some interesting days out, with picked cabbage, and even Yorkshire pudding.

Weird baits - a carp on a cigarette butt picked up off the ground when I had no floating baits with me. Several small fish on a bare red hook during a canal winter league match. Vundu catfish on soap.
Funny as f**k as usual,when I was a kid saw a bloke catching tench on a thick custard powder paste,must have had some sort of binder in it

Banded m&ms at docklow. Was pulling a fish a chuck for hours it was ridiculous so tried some other baits
Can you do an identical challenge, where the only thing that is different is the peg, for example, fishing short with an identical rig and feeding identically to see how each peg differs, I always love hearing the I tried that in my peg but it didn’t work, always makes me wonder if it was the way the person fished the same bait was wrong or the fish just weren’t there
