    Thanks for watching "Crate Training Tips - 10 Hacks To Help Your New Puppy Love The Crate". Which tip are you going to start with when it comes to teaching your puppy to love their crate?

      Definitely treats inside the crate when she can come back out. My bloodhound pup hates going in her crate , but she does love her treats. So I hope that helps! Thank you!

    Oh man, I was moving my pup when she fell asleep.. glad to know not to do that now! Thankfully only a couple days into having her so good time to correct to using other tips to make it more fun. Was already doing her meals in it but will also add a bit of play time and training using her food in there too. Have been having trouble with crying early morning once she wakes in it the last few nights so hopefully a bit of changing it up helps that.

    Our foster puppy just turned 9 months old. She’s potty trained, a great car rider and overall as sweet as can be. She knows sit, down, leave it and off. She’s pretty good at shake too. She’s a little more skittish in public than we’d like, I don’t think she got a lot of early socialization ( we’ve had her about 1 month). We’re working on socialization, leash training and release. Not sure how long we’ll have her ( would love to keep her). We are getting a new puppy of our own in about 6 weeks. Looking forward to implementing your tools and suggestions. Thanks for sharing all the great ideas!

    My pup will be here in about two weeks. In our three story townhome I'll have a crate and playpen in the room I work in - bottom floor - and wonder if I should have a crate and /or a playpen on the third story where I spend at least half my time and sleep. I won't leave her alone on the bottom floor after work, but I can't be hauling the crate up and down. Ideas?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It's fine to have more than one crate so you can put it in different locations. Just remember that each one will have to be desensitized to help your new pup love it. This video on crate location can give you a few more tips: czcams.com/video/f9OaXIxdXJQ/video.html

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog

      We appreciate that you found this video helpful! As puppies grow, they can be left home alone in the crate for increasing periods when you are away at work. But for the first few months - even up to a year - you’ll likely need some additional help from friends or family to meet all of their needs. We have two other great videos on this topic!

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog

      Leaving it covered will help her. The more she has to look at, the more she will be processing, and the more she will need to go potty!

    My 11-week old whimpers a bit in the crate. Should I allow that or just let it go? He doesn't bark much.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 4 měsíci

      If the whimpers escalate or seem to be panicked (shrieking, high pitched, frantic) then it's best to take him out and do a reset. If the whimpers only last for a few minutes and then he falls asleep, that's very normal and it's him learning to self soothe.

    Would it be ok to move the crate to the bedroom for night time, to the living room for day time & a spare room when we need to go out leaving puppy home alone in crate for an hour or so...?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před rokem +1

      When first crate training it's best not to move it around. Dogs learn best from consistency and routine. But as the pup becomes more comfortable with the crate it's Ok to have multiple crates or move it around if he seems OK with it. This video might answer a few more questions too: czcams.com/video/f9OaXIxdXJQ/video.html

    if I remove the water won’t my puppy get dehydrated? I was going to remove the water so she doesn’t go potty in her crate at night but I don’t want to harm her by taking it away

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 2 lety

      If your pup is supposed to be sleeping at night, they won't be awake to drink water. They will have hydrated all throughout the day. You are not harming your pup by removing water at bedtime.

    Is crate better than a play pen and bed?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 3 lety

      Yes. Using a crate is an essential part of raising and training a puppy. When used correctly with the proper training, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble, a place for rest or downtime and are great for a reset or time out. Here is one we recommend: howtotrainadreamdog.com/plastic-crate

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před rokem

      Puppies have a lot of needs, just like children. And they rely on the humans to provide for them. When dogs are very young it will be important to enlist friends, family and pet sitters to meet their needs if you can't be home.
