Actually , city can put them together on field , as two strickers, on on a 3-2-2-2, or a 3-4-1-1 formation , with Alvarez coming behind him as a second attacker. They can play together , and it would be a lot deadly, It would remind of the days when arguero played together with Dzeko or negredo.

What do you guys think of Phillips ? I think he did ok. There were few times that he did those long precise lobbing passes that gave him nickname " Yorkshire Pirlo " . Rodri is too essential for first eleven , but I'd really like to have Kalvin play a bigger role next season...

i watch man city playstyle, from what i know phillip cant be rodri and gundogan. if philip play u cant pass to him because he rarely ask for the ball in the mid. so the one on the left or right always get a danger pressure and dont know where to pass. while gundogan and rodri is always there to help. but philip wasnt. philip can be useful for defense and counter attack but he forget the biggest thing that pep ever wanted, ball possession.

I'm not saying Rodri is a better player than Pirlo.
Pirlo was a great player and of course he's a better player than Rodri, but i don't think he'll fit in Guardiola's current system.
i think we all agree Pirlo's best attribute is his passing and playmaking, he's not known for his defensive capibility, not even in his prime.
we have enough playmaking and jawdropping pass in KDB and Gundogan.
now, what we need is a defensive midfielder who can read the game, defending the attacker one on one, shields the defense, starts the attack, made crucial tackle, make simple pass, who is a reliable and consistent defender.
and that's exactly who rodri is
rodri with his defensive capibility gave freedom to KDB and Gundogan to create the attack. simply put, he offers balance in man city midfield, something i don't think will happen with Pirlo in Rodri's spot.
Rodri's just too essential for Pep, i don't think he'll throw the engine of his team just for another maestro in the midfield
