    I don't know why anyone would WANT Jeremy to play Souls games. It's clearly not his kind of game. I'm a huge fan of the series, but there are so many friends who I won't even try to recommend it to, because it takes a certain mindset and that's not Jeremy's mindset.

      I know I enjoy the games but I also mostly enjoy it because I play it with friends. So I personally ask a friend to try it first and if they don't like it then I understand the game isn't for them and won't push anyone to buy it if they don't like it. But some people like it and some people don't. I get that.
      I am hoping his experience with it alongside Platy (think he said it would be with Platy) won't be just bad times for him though. Not to make his view worse but simply because if you don't like it in the first place and are stuck playing it, not the greatest experience and such. So I hope it will be smooth having a well experienced player playing alongside to help guide and such. But we shall see.

      I sympathize with how Jeremy feels so much. I love FromSoft's games, specifically the lore and world building, but I can't play them. I even bought a ps4 to try playing Elden Ring, and I couldn't do it.
      It's also kind of soul crushing to hear the Soulsborne community basically say I don't deserve to explore the world and lore myself because I haven't earned it. But here I am planning to buy another copy of Elden Ring for my pc in hopes of being able to get good enough to play the DLC in June.
      If someone isn't interested in playing a FromSoft game, people should respect that. Their friends in particular should respect that! We don't all have the same dopamine release triggers. So there's a good chance beating a boss won't give Jeremy the endorphin response Max & others anticipate it will.

      Same, more or less at least. Souls 'lite' type games that use similar-ish mechanics for saving, enemy spawning/respawning and XP loss and regain. The Elden Ring, Dark Souls conversation just seems to be people emphasizing different parts of the games. The parts that Jeremy dislikes are very similar or the same in all of the Soulsbourne games. The parts of the games that fans care about get changed up between games. Like how DS1 is shield heavy, DS3 is a bit faster, Bloodborne is very fast and offense heavy, Elden Ring has lots of exploration. None of those differences matter because the core loop is still similar in all of them and if you don't like that loop, the other differences just don't matter.

    • @LS1056
      @LS1056 Před 2 měsíci +4

      I will say if you mess up with a shiny, you're not resetting the map. That's a game of chance, and usually, it's on you. Your odds change, but it's not like you're fighting tooth and nail, it's not as intensive. Souls is truly 15 minutes to get to boss, fighting all the mobs, die, and repeat. It's a coded brick wall that requires you to be always on every step of the way

    • @trli7117
      @trli7117 Před 2 měsíci +2

    • @Meravokas
      @Meravokas Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@trli7117 Shiny hunting is generally just a case of eggs and walking/biking around. It's something you can do mindlessly when you don't have anything better to do. I can't personally say it's worth the time. In part because most shiny versions of pokemon look like ass in coloration in my opinion. Also as someone with ADHD, it's not even an engaging type of mindless "Do nothing". Also you only run into the "Whompwhomp" frustration of an egg not hatching into a shiny. So it only becomes beating your head against the wall if you've been trying to get the same one after a certain point. Also for streamers it can be different if it's something they sort of do normally. Streaming it, it's something they can do and shoot the shit with chat. Also everyone's version of tedium is slightly different. Or at least mind numbing tedium.

    • @trli7117
      @trli7117 Před 2 měsíci

      @Meravokas I guess I was thinking of trying to catch a specific shiny rather than just general hunting. So as some one who played all the souls games they are way to over hyped their not that good solo alot if rhe joy comes from playing co-op/pvp and if jeremy didnt like elden ring i dout he going to like DS3. I feel like its alot like the kingdom heart fandom where alot of people loved it and will now die for it saying the rhe best game of all time and no its not. The big thing about the souls game that brings the community together is the "get good" of it that the game has only one difficulty it up to you to make it more or less difficult on how you want to play it ie using spells, dex build, no hit runs. But for alot of new player rheir not going to understand this concept of use all the tools to your disposal becuse the fandom is so dead set on "their way is the only right way to play" god help you if you ask for help from this fandom. The other thing is dark soul is played best blind for the most part of just run around and descover secrets of hits of messages again needs multiplayer to have fun or seeing how peopled died with rhe blood stains but that people will just die in randome spots for no reason other then to make you think your not safe. Because the base game play loop poils down aproch ever room or area wirh coshion until you identify the threath chose to fight or flight and adjust your tactics as needed ie take a group one at a time or just run past them. Am also worried how platty going to play in this like is he really going to be helpful or is he just going to troll becuse your more likly to get invaded if your on co-op. In the end how ever i do belive anyone can enjoy a souls game as so many of them play so diffrently but the only real difference in DS3 and ER is open world so I feel like it kind of pointless as its way more here a wall get over it.

      @William256 luck in drops, luck in what attacks they use, luck in not being invaded at the worst time possible. In the case of dark souls 1 luck the invader isn't a hacker that takes no damage lol

      @@xandt-doggaming3313 What attacks they use doesn't matter, skill and knowledge make it irrelevant. Being invaded is a non-issue, play offline. Luck in drops is also irrelevant, you can just farm the vast majority of droppable items.

      @William256 if something has a percentage chance of happening then it isn't skill based so stuff like drops do require luck. As a player that has collected every piece of equipment possible in demon souls and every dark souls, elder ring I honestly stopped playing after a while, it's not just as simple as farming it some items have such a low drop chance that you literally need to be lucky since only in ds3 did they introduce an actual luck stat. Also depending on your build some moves being used at certain times is game over no matter what so you have to be lucky and hope that doesn't happen. These are aspects of luck. Even npc invaders can require some luck to beat spawning in places that don't really allow you to dodge without risking falling to death etc. I'm not saying it's completely up to luck I'm saying it is also a factor. Games like binding of Isaac also require skill not just luck so what's your argument.

    • @William256
      @William256 Před 2 měsíci

      @@xandt-doggaming3313 Binding of Isaac's core identity relies on luck. "It's not as simple as just farming" is a bold faced lie. It literally is that simple. Unlike BoI, you can go back and kill the same enemies for a drop over and over again without having to start a new playthrough. Moveset luck matters in speedruns, not if you are good at the game. Name a specific circumstance otherwise instead of just saying it happens. NPC Invaders are not at all luck dependent. They have consistent spawn points and easily exploitable AI.

    Jeremy it's so weird you don't like Dark Souls, Sekiro, Eldin Ring and Fallen Order. It's not like they're all the same game with a different coat of paint and all contain mechanics that you, as the one playing the game, find detracting from the overall experience.
    I do agree that the respawning enemies at a save point is a but much when everything one shots you, but I'm dumb and eventually unga bunga my way through because I'm supposed to be enjoying it, it's game of the year, the name Miyazaki invalidates my entire existence or something.

    I will say he's not wrong about playing souls as a streamer, it brings out the worst in chat. That said I think why ppl get heated about how jeremy talks about Souls likes is it makes it sound like he doesn't understand how anyone could like them and that he thinks they're dumb or something for liking them.

    Don't really agree with the take on Souls games that you just bang your head against the wall until it works. That's what you do when you first start those kind of games and don't get them yet. Really its more like understanding the limits of the your character and finding the best way through each encounter or against each enemy. Trying the same thing over and over again and failing miserably means your doing it wrong or your missing something or your under leveled etc. You find and discover things that make the game easier. It's not even a get good thing either, I've played since DS1 first came out and I can still can barely parry compare to some people.
    Binding of Isaac does get easier each run and so does each section of a Souls game because if you know the area and know the mechanics then you will make progress. Bosses are the same way in that you should be getting better each time (relatively). Obviously the margin of error is very thin which is where the challenge comes in but it's really not that different from any other game, it's how you approach it, if you approach it with fear it's not going to feel good.
    I remember first playing Dark Souls and moving through areas in fear of the next enemy. Fear of losing souls, fear of losing progress through an area but eventually it clicked that losing those souls and going back made me learn something. Beating a challenging boss doing some weird trick or something I wouldn't normally do made me learn something. It's the whole journey not the destination thing, saying I beat that isn't what makes the games great it's saying how I beat that. It is absolutely a mind set thing but the characterization of the mind set as going up against a brick wall really isn't accurate.

    Dark Souls games aren't just skill. It's learning patterns and adapting to situations with a class and gear you find and upgrade along the way.
    So while it takes some skill to play at the core the overall game is beaten by finding good gear, upgrading said gear and levelling up your character to a point where the content gets easier.
    They are much more of an RPG then anything. I think people who have never played them before see them as this big scary difficult game but in reality they aren't that hard.
    I think if you wanted to try something in a similar fashion Hollow Knight is probably the best game to get you into the genre.

    I totally get it, Souls games aren't for everyone and that's okay. *But*... saying Elden Ring is exactly the same as Dark Souls tells me that you probably didn't give it much of a chance. And hey, listen, I'm not judging. You had a bad time and that's valid. I'm just saying... where Dark Souls can be a brick wall... Elden Ring is much more open with more options to explore. They're definitely not the same.
    Anyway, love the videos, man. It doesn't matter to me what games you play, you're hilarious and seem like a really good dude.
