  • Today marks 1 year since my first level 6 solo victory!
    I'm just chatting about my personal history with the game, my learning curve, what I enjoy, etc. No tier list is good without causing controversy, so tell me why I'm wrong!

    Although I really love your content in general, this video I keep coming back to; really love the spreadsheet! Any chance of an update with the new expansion and adversary? (Granted it is not app-friendly yet, but I remain hopeful, even if it is not yet complete)

    I've noticed that I like spirits that really punish you for reclaiming to often and reward you for aggressivly underplaying and scaling at the cost of one or two bad turns. For the same reason I dislike when a spirit gives you to much additional power when reclaiming, especially placing presence when reclaiming just seems cheap to me. Vital Strength of the Earth is my least favorite spirit, because
    A) Place presence on reclaim
    B) The innates are not rewarding and the uniques are too costly and
    C) You just need to dig for majors
    On the other hand I love spirits that just change the game completely. Shroud, Wildfire and Bringer are my top picks for that reason.
    I also like it when there is no single perfect strategy. In solo mode river and lightning and some other spirits suffer from most games feeling just the same. I actually like shadows, because it forces you to make harder decisions.

    We enjoy a lot of the same spirits! I like some of the defensive ones more than you. This is absolutely my favorite tier list I’ve ever seen, it’s personal or celebrates people enjoying the spirits that they enjoy! I like tier lists but there is an issue that it’s hard for power ranking tier lists to not either turn people off of trying “weak” spirits, or make them feel less accomplished for their wins with High tiers, and often both. And I feel that you did excellent at not perpetuating either! :)
    I haven’t played Trickster into Habs, I think my partner has in doubles, but I think it’s Habs 6 is rough solo. England 6 solo, it fairs pretty well on board B and E, it can usually clear the inland early with any luck from let’s see what happens, doing Impersonate and incite turn 1 and arson on 2. It’s still super duper resilient England but Trickster can get a lot of early tempo. And I love Vengeance! And I feel the same way about keeper, I enjoy them decently but only bottom track (after 4 energy) because the major slinging keeper isn’t that fun for me.
    I refer people to your videos frequently! I also was a big Peasant fan, and miss his stuff. When you say that requests are welcome, is that for TTS as well as app?

    • @ryanlackie1129
      @ryanlackie1129  Před rokem

      Thanks for the kind words! The chaotic spirits are never ranked highly on tier lists because of the risk and inconsistency, but that’s what makes it fun! As far as upcoming videos goes, I was thinking about making them in TTS, because then I have the full variety of options. I think I want to do less spirit specific videos and instead focus on concepts and ideas that are broadly applicable - I think my next one will just be focused on Hapsburg since that adversary plays out quite differently than most

    Awesome to hear your story about learning the game progressing to making strategy guides.
    In the case of requests; i would loooove a video on how to actually use TTS properly playing SI with all the new content. Im just a big pc noob but would love to be able to play it without having to do the setup. I do have tts downloaded and the SI mod (for some reason cant get the nature incarnare spirits into the mod..) but i just feel so clunky playing it with just my mouse. Going through tips how to use the tts UI would be insanely helpful.
    Anyway, keep enjoying this game and thanks for your content.

    A tier list or guide for spirit combos would be great! I mostly play in person with others so the conversation and brainstorming of the perfect spirit team synergies is one of the funniest parts.

    • @ryanlackie1129
      @ryanlackie1129  Před rokem +2

      That does sound interesting, but there’s 812 spirit pairings for two player and 21,924 combos for 3. I don’t think I could fit that onto the screen 😂

    • @Infinity-0033
      @Infinity-0033 Před rokem

      So it’d just need to be a list of fun and/or good combos…but none are bad…

    • @Infinity-0033
      @Infinity-0033 Před rokem

      Possibly a spirit that has utility but the other spirit benefits little to none from it, and there is no other synergy except playing each solo together…that would make the “target another” powers worse than if it was a 1 player game

    I personally enjoy spirits that output a TON of presence across the whole multiplayer board, as well as spirits that make good use of Dahan (Sweden is, of course, my most mortal enemy).
    If you're still taking requests, I could use your opinion on the ideal combination of Horizons spirits for teaching the game to a board game newbie. I recently picked up Horizons and am planning to play it with 1-2 other family members over the holidays, but I'm not really sure which Horizons spirits play well with other Horizons spirits since when I play online with Horizons spirits it's usually me using a Horizons spirit in a big 5-player room with the rest of the table playing a bunch of different spirits from across all the different expansions. Ideally I'd be able to offer the new player a free choice to pick whichever spirit they like the art of most, and then I pick up one of the remaining spirits that would help them come to understand both the game and their spirit, without stealing the spotlight or overly confusing them with weird shenanigans on my end. Any suggestions that you could share here?

    • @ryanlackie1129
      @ryanlackie1129  Před rokem +1

      I’ve not taught any new players since picking up horizons, so I cannot comment with any actual experience. That being said, I think the only two spirits that shouldn’t be played together in a learning game is Rising Heat and Devouring Teeth, since they largely do the same thing. I think showing a diverse variety of play styles is more interesting. Of the 5, I think you should play sun bright whirlwind, because you offer support and utility that is hard for a new player to grasp the value of. Additionally, late game Whirlwind has some fascinating turns which can be a spectacle for the other guys to watch

  • @EM-pn5kq

    Bringer is one of my favorites. I love how different he feels and he's so thematic. And that art... so good
    It's exciting to see youbeat every adversary with him because I want to do that, and people I play with don't like him because they think he's not good so I want to prove that he is haha
    Maybe I missed videos but I'd love to see you play some level 6 Bringer matches.
    As far as the video goes, I've never done a full tier list but I think my favorites are probably breath of darkness, BoDaN, and wildfire

      @@ryanlackie1129 I haven't tried his aspects yet. From what I've read, I prefer the original. I love that he essentially uses the fear cards as extra card plays by knowing what they'll do. I know at least one aspect takes away that power.

In regards to the NI spirits, I would want to wait until we see the unique starting cards, since that is just so important for understanding a spirits opening and options. I'm very surprised that you find Whirlwind to be too supportive for solo play. It is an extremely proactive spirit with a mix of both damage (a surprisingly high amount of it, too) and control. It has a Boon of Vigor equivalent (card that gives 1 energy that can be played for elements), but its kit very much has the tools it needs to win against every adversary except England. Even in multiplayer, Whirlwind often wants to take Wind-sped Steps for itself since it does so much for its innate. It feels like a more aggressive and versatile version of River.
