One of the most talented songwriters of his generation. God, what a loss.
It is but sadly Tiara NOBODY cares and nobody knows who he is. Half the damn news stories don't even mention he was a founding member of Ivy, the best US band of the past 30 years. The loss... yeah, this is sad, but the apathy and ignorance - that's worse because we'll enjoy his music the rest of our lives - everyone else will never know. Well, he's OK. I interviewed Ivy about 15 years ago and he wasn't able to be there, and Andy told me it was because he had to go visit his grandmother. Adam was a good kid, and I am certain he is back home with Jesus now, and frankly better off than he was here. Adam.... you done well my son. Enjoy your reward.
@@56squadron We know though, maybe that's enough. Sending love.
One of my favourite song of the 90s. Rip
Absolutely...thinking of all the songs he had yet to write that we'll never get to hear now. Such a loss, and such a sad way to go.
Horrible loss, I will always have fond memories
If there was ever a song that reminded me of my youth, this is it. I wasn't a popular kid, I spent a lot of nights in my room playing video games listening to the college rock station. The fiirst time I heard this song, I was IN. I can't even explain why. The hook, the songwriting..I dunno. But I was in. I was dying to tell people how great this song was 5 years later when 'Stacy's Mom' blew up. I was totally that guy saying "They have a ton of great songs."
RIP Adam Schlesinger (October 31, 1967 - April 1, 2020), aged 52
You will be remembered as a legend.
Oh what a great lost.
The harmony lines in the chorus are just sublime and this will always be my favorite FOW song.
R.I.P. Adam Schlesinger. We miss you and that thing you do...
2020 has been rough, and now this. Hey, if you are reading this. Hang in there..
You too, man.
Thank you for your good wishes. Back at ya'. 2020 is more than rough... it's like everything breaking, disintegrating, turning to shit turning to shit at once,
Hope you’re doing okay.
It was rough. But I made it. I hope you did too.
Adam is gone too soon from this wretched disease. May he rest in eternal peace, and his loved ones find comfort in the memories and spirit of his days on earth.
I used to sing this to my son when he was an infant. I will never forget that.
Timeless.
I used to sing Weezer songs to my infant son LOL.
How’s he doing right now
Thank you for the sorry... I Love memories being attached to songs.
@@thefunnyguyaha Just graduated from high school last weekend!
@@FinalFinalGirlAmazing, I wish him and his impeccably tasteful family well!
RIP Adam Schlesinger. This song means a lot to me and I'm so shocked to find out about the loss. May you groove with the Radiation Vibe on the other side.
What does it mean to you
RIP Adam Sleschinger.
Thanks for the memories.
Dammit - Rest In Peace, Adam Schlesinger
Seriously one of the most unappreciated bands of the last 20 years. Their lyrics often evoke the Kinks (with the crazy stories) and the vocals kind of remind me of the Hollies. Regardless, Schlesinger/Collingwood write some of the best stuff out there. Absolutely phenomenal band.
do you like Guided by Voices?
Jackjude Very much.
Elaine Snow / marry me, Elaine
FortWarren ok name the time place & date
Seriously one of the most unappreciated bands of the last 20 years.
Fuckin' - A.
The thing is everyone is going to remember him for "Stacy's Mom", but Fountains of Wayne had a hit in 1996 (seven years before Stacy's Mom) with this song.
Was going to say the same thing. This was one of my favorite songs in High School.
This song is 100000000x better than overplayed Stacy's Bitch mom
I'm that one who is accidentally terribly hipster, I found the 7" of this on the back seat of a bus and how could I not take it home with a cover like that. 7 years later I totally missed Stacy's Mom, no regrets
That's the song that make me fall in love with the band.
Radiation Vibe is the shit, honestly pissed me off how everyone liked them when Stacey's mom came out!! Underrated for sure
RIP Adam Schlesinger. Such an amazing songwriter.
Should've gotten way more fame than it has.
RIP Adam 😢
RIP Adam. Goddammit we'll miss you...
Radiation is essentially energy given off in varying forms. In this case it's vibes. One of the Golden rules of energy is that it never be created or destroyed, only change form. Adam's energy is still radiating and 'shining on'...
👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻♥️
I was 16 when Radiation Vibe was released, and I can remember learning what harmonies were from singing this song. FoW defined my musical tastes for the next several years. Really sad to hear about Adam Schlesinger's passing.
Best song so underrated
I remember recording this song off the radio onto cassette as an 11 year old in 1996. It was on the Top 40 chart show as this was a minor chart hit in the UK. Love the summertime vibe on this.
Haha, yes I did the same exact thing!! Live105 would play it all the time, and oh yeah - I was definitely popping a casette in the tape player and recording this, among many others. Oh, the '90s.
I remember this song because of the riff and the chorus! Not that I love it, but hearing this after 20 years instantly takes me back to that time. Have you noticed it happens specially with lesser-known songs? Because the old "classics" are always being played in the radio and don't have that effect anymore.
I thought I was the only one who went through this.
Oh my heart is broken! I love Fountains of Wayne. RIP Adam Schlesinger and thanks for making music that were a major part of my 1990s!
Melissa Ann Nevin I have to be honest, this hit me as hard as Bowie. Some of the best songwriting ever. Lucky enough to have seen them live a bunch of times.
@@czarpaul01 I know what you mean czarpaul01. I remember the first time I heard them, where I was & who I was with. I loved these guys and I too feel lucky to have seen them live. Take care and stay safe!
Melissa Ann Nevin he was a few months older than me. Going to get tested tomorrow as I’ve been sick for weeks. Would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared.
@@czarpaul01 depending on where you live and/or depending on your symptoms, you might not be able to get a test. We have drive thru testing and they seem to be all different. Some you need a referral and others no. Some are for first responders, some are for all. I hope you feel better and if tested, you come back negative. Good luck and get well.
Melissa Ann Nevin thank you, did manage to get a test yesterday, be mid week before results. Hoping this passes soon, it’s been a struggle. Take care of yourself and yours.
R.I.P Adam. One of the greatest songs of the 90's. Never got the credit they deserved.
Just read about the loss of Adam Schlesinger and I almost can't believe it. I've listened to this CD so much throughout the years, it's great all the way through. RIP
There are very few albums, in my opinion, that you can play all the way through and every song holds its own. This is one of them!
RIP Adam - this is one of my favorite songs
Everytime I'm youtube DJ at a party I fit this one in. Usually between teenage dirtbag and something from Spacehog.
In the Meantime followed by this...yes please!
Discovered FoW when I was a 16 y/o learning guitar. Played in a cover band when I went to uni and this was my FAV song to play. Just made me feel so good.
I heard this song on lithium for the first time in a couple decades and was like damn, how did I ever forget. Now I have probably listened to it twenty times in the last two days
Schlesinger and Collingwood met at Williams College in Massachusetts. “We played albums by bands like the Replacements and R.E.M. and had long conversations about what their daily lives must be like,” Collingwood told Rolling Stone in early 2020, after Schlesinger died due to complications related to Covid-19. They reconnected in New York in the mid-Nineties and made their debut “bouncy and sloppy and full of spirit,” as Collingwood recalled. It opened with “Radiation Vibe,” power-pop perfection for a post-Nirvana world, and one of the most charming minor hits of the alt-rock era.
Didn't know he died, So sad, I am from Wayne NJ like these guys. Heard some of the band worked at the store Fountains Of Wayne (Seasonal type store, Holiday and outdoor Decorations,Statues and Fountains) Always loved their music! 😟
This one still stings and it is 8 months later. RIP Adam
RIP Adam. 😢
My favorite FOW song. They made such great songs, but this one, for me, stands out.
Saw fountains of wayne on Sopranos heard this for the first time today ,what a tune !! Only 26 years late
This was one of my favorite songs for a long time. R.I.P. Adam Schlesinger
This is the song Fountains of Wayne should be remembered for. I listened to this album all the time in college, so many great songs on it. RIP, Adam.
nostalgic when hearing this. 90s time machine
If you’re from Passaic or Sussex, and you remember driving by the Fountains of Wayne along Rt. 23, this song weighs a little heavier on your soul.
Don't understand how Fountains of Wayne never made it that big when he has a voice like T H A T!!
This is my fav song by these guys and is one of my most fav songs from childhood. Totally underrated band.
AB2101 it’s a great song but try listening to anything off “Utopia Highway,” especially “Valley of Malls.”
Great pop rock record.
IMHO, the songwriting duo of Collingwood and Schlesinger are right 'up there' with The Beatles' Lennon & McCartney ... great songs, subject matter, lyrical brilliance, outstanding melodies, and hooks ... GOD HOW I WISH I WAS IN THIS BAND! ... i used to drive past Fountains of Wayne everyday on my way to work.
Nic Luciano Sr lol - is it still there? Someone told me they sold it and tore it down.☹️
You drove past them? Meaning?
First thing I wanted to hear when I read the news.
That's why I'm here too. 😥
Mine was Denise. Always loved that song, cuz i could kinda play it on guitar. lol. This sucks
Barbara H
This is like sunny Beach Boys meet Nirvana.
*Shine on, Shine on, Shine on*
Shine on Adam.
Applause !! This band has some of the best sounds I have ever heard. They are plugged into the " New Wave " sounds of the late 70's early 80's . Those sounds come from the heart and are everlasting. One song makes me want to hear another. Shine on , Shine on , Shine on....
What an album
What a cover shot
What a single
Shine on!
I went to play this album off Apple Music (sidenote: how hard does it age me that I really want to call it iTunes?) and discovered that I know the opening track to the album by heart but I didn't recognize the title.
Also, everybody seems to know this band for a song that came out nearly ten years after this album, damn.
Rest in Peace Adam 💔 Many great songs that live on in our hearts and heads will help us remember you always. Sympathies to your family at this difficult time.
R.I.P. Adam Schlesinger, great songwriter, great band, lucky to see them play in Dublin they were so good, much underrated
Good song.
whoaaa .. i'm late.. knowing fountains of wayne, i like this Alternative Rock
My heart aches. Thanks for the music, Adam.
RADIATION VIBE-FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE....WOOT,WOOT!
The first two songs of the album are perfect but this one is just better
My Radiation Vibe treatments are done. Cancer free!
Still fantastic after all these years
27 years old and not even 1 mill views. Thats a damn shame, this song is so effing tight
RIP Adam. Thanks for the great tunes.
Great song.. such an underrated band. Love these guys!
I was at a disco in Tokyo at the end of the 90's, dancing with a lovely girl, and this song came on, and the whole place went nuts. Great tune, and a great memory in my life. Thank you.
I was in Tokyo in 99 at the Lexington Queen ;)
Some great playing with superior songwriting skills. After losing their bass player to Covid-19 in 2020 they disbanded. I wish they would continue as there is still some significant talent left. Plus it would also honor their lost bassist.
The bassist isn't just a bassist, he's also a keyboardist
They disbanded well before 2020. In 2013, to be precise.
R.I.P Adam Schlesinger...I always thought Fountains of Wayne knew how to write a great pop hook.
This is their best song, in my opinion. And the one that (rightly) got the air time when it came out
Very overlooked band! Their first album is stacked with great songs!
Shine on, shine on, shine on... 🌠
I Finally found the song, let’s go man
Can’t believe this Underrated song didn’t get enough much of the recognition …
Lost a genius today due to the virus. RIP brotha
Sad day
thanks for all the great music. RIP
This is the song that started it all for me. Still listening after all these years. Thanks for the songs, thanks for the memories, R.I.P. Adam.
RIP Adam Schlesinger. Damn this takes me back...
Boy, they thought of everything here, didn't they? Purple and red lighting, space backgrounds, camera rotation, a girl with a hammer, the band members' feet nailed to the floor of what looks like a waiting room, and a guy who looks like John Travolta popping in every so often.
Doesnt get more 90s than that
The John Travolta look alike is probably supposed to look like Rod Serling from Twilight Zone
I heard this in a Japanese indie club at the end of the 90s and was hooked ever since..
This dude probably impacted more lives through music than they even realize.
I loved their first 2 albums so much. This was like my favorite song in 5th grade
Bring 1997 back please
RIP Adam Schlesinger. 💔 First song of his I heard. Thanks for the great tunes my friend.
I had "Radiation Vibe" playing in my head for the past 24 hours and it still sounds great!
Sometimes a listen will cure an earworm, sometimes it just makes it worse!
this was the first song I ever heard from Fountains of Wayne. Rest easy Adam.
one of the greatest bands of the 90s, they just got that power pop sound spot on and modernised it perfectly
You can tell how much they loved the music...the vibe is real and alive!!!
Back in Middle school when everyone would listen to this
This is one of my favourite summer songs ever
Me too. Listened to them all Summer on a long vacation to Ireland. Love them 🤘💛
One of the best power pop bands of all time
I love the subtle flip of the switch to 'no' after 'isnt that the way life's supposed to be'
This is the best song of the band, fantastic chorus, by the way...
Saw them live with smashing pumpkins in 96. Great show. This was my college soundtrack. Prayers for his family.
RIP Adam Schlesinger. I was lucky enough to catch Fountains of Wayne in concert. Adam was a terrific songwriter! Only 52, far too young.
Shine on, shine on, shine on Adam.
Binge listen about once a month for the last 10 years. I have 6 artists on my Ipod, Squeeze, ELO FoW,Mike Viola(the voice of that thing you do) Bleu and Pugwash. That's all I need.
Rip Adam, the world lost an amazing songwriter
Shine on Adam Schlesinger.
Adam is now grooving on a radiation vibe. 💜
RIP Adam Thanks for the great music
my kids have now been introduced to FOW. I am glad they are enjoying it.
This is the song that introduce me to you. You will forever be remembered as my inspirational spirit. RIP Adam Schlesinger.
RIP to a songwriting legend
It couldn't be more 90s. The hair says it all. I have 35 favourite FOW songs, and this is was the first :)
in my top ten..what a song!!
This song will always make me smile. Thank you for this beautiful creation.
