Today, I try my hand at doing some regular maintenance on my 2009 Aston Martin DBS. As it turns out, it's incredibly expensive to get it done at the dealership for a reason, but nothing that we can't handle as a DIY. Or is it?

He must have learned from the 308 that a non-functional car is miserable
The 308 will eventually be a really nice car because the car wizard has it now
@@metsrock1500 he's not too far away from me in Kansas! Haha

Dbs, hands down one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
I agree, I didn't know the grill was unaligned like that though, can't unsee it.

Eww gross
having to do all that just to change the sparks plugs makes it ugly AF for mine.
Standard DB9 is prettier and DBS is overstyled. Saw a DBS on the street recently - surpisingly unremarkable and meh. the black paint made it even more unexciting
You did good : old school installation of the plugs!! Using a hose rather than a freakin power tool!
DBS is one of my favorite cars. It’s so beautiful. It’s in my top ten with 458, murciélago, cgt, Enzo, LFA and some others.
458 and Enzo is ugly
Thats some Sasquatch of culture
I hope you own all of them man
The new DBS Superleggera is an absolute thing of beauty. If I had a spare $400K in my pocket, I’d definitely be driving one.
Wot in the hell is a sasquatch 🤔🙄🙄
Tavarish be like - Hey why spent 7000 dollars on service when I can do the work and get money by videotaping😉
I feel your pain Freddy, I just finished doing this same job on my DB9. When you change the oil in the future, use a bag or Ziploc to put over the filter. Losen it up and let it drop into the bag and done!
“This is proper wrenching. I like this”
Welcome back, _actual_ Freddy. We’ve missed you 😉
Just busting your huevos
"Can't have it featured on cartrek if it's not running right!" - that's a first!
Jared is a great guy, but it’s awesome to see Freddy working on his own like old times. Welcome back!
What’s also exciting is that you’re .09 mil away from 2 million subscribers Tavarish 🔧👍🏾🚗🇺🇸😀!! Yet, thanks for showing your repairs on your Aston Martin. Awesome 🤩!
Thank you for sharing. So satisfying to watch what was necessary for the spark plugs and other parts.. well done. Great video.
Buys dream car, tears into it himself and SUCCEEDS. Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed
Had a death in the family today and your videos seem to transport me to a different place. Thanks for uploading and taking my mind off of grief ever so briefly.
That sucks man, Hang in there.
My condolences my guy, keep the faith strong
Condolences bro.
I saw Freddy uses fuel/vacuum line trick to install the new plugs. My dad taught me that when I was little and yet I still see so many car you tubers just run the new plugs in with an extension and an electric drill or wrench (cross thread one once and you’ll hate yourself) so it’s good to see someone doing it right!
Me too
Good to see that your looking after her.
One thing with reference to your spark plugs, really good tip is to apply a little anti seize compound to the spark plugs on the threads, just a smear will be surficennt,as for a part number from NGK, take one of the old plugs put it in the vice and gently hacksaw around the metal until you go through to the ceramic insulation,do this all around and then remove the collar which has been crimped, next cut off the earth electrode at the base of the plug, support the plug in the vice and tap out the central part with a hammer and punch once it's out you will be able to read the NGK part number that is on the plug .
Hope this is of some use to you.
Can't have it featured if it's not running right? I thought that was a prerequisite fir Car Trek.
I hope the Austin Martin survives Car Trek.
Tavarish is so happy to work on something that doesn't need a complete tear down and rebuild.
12:33 - Tavarish: The technical term is "why she spittin'"
Me: It's also a technical term for something else 😂
You must really love this car ! This is like getting a haircut , where you have to cut every hair individually . I am impressed.
The DBS is so beautiful. The body lines the wheels everything is perfect on this.
i love this car man. i watched the whole video.. when you started the engine and was working smoothly i felt so happy as if i was doing the work.
this must be the happiest moments of your life. enjoy it!
Great video Freddie!! Love the time lapse and all the work you accomplished!!
20:57 Never thought the Samsung Pen would be useful now I see how amazing
Agreed. Funny how much we have become dependent on our phones using it as a light, pictures, and such. But when he did the drawing on the phone, it taught me a new trick for my car maintenance. Nice work.
@@familyfun9474 @Family Fun I'm one of the few who love a stylist pen but can't afford Samsung lol, currently on oneplus 8 Pro. This device some how manages my life completely and scary because of the dependability. Tavarish hit it on the nail using it.
And I got A heart, DOPE ! WASSUP
Samsung Note series FTW! It was a natural progression for me. When I was in sales I'd always have one of those little pocket notepads so it was an easy switch.
Getting the injectors cleaned and flowed since you had a plug that looked really lean wouldn't have been a bad idea when you had it apart.
Had the same thought
Ya that plug was sketchy as hell
Guess I must have missed this video from before? D-B-S spells gorgeous. Honestly, you could have made a video about cleaning the windows of the DBS and I'd watch it. Your "money no object dream car", happens to be mine as well. My dream of owning one has yet to have been realized but at least I can get a realistic idea of what to expect when I get my own from your vids. Thanks for what you do man it brings the once perceived exclusive into the realm of actual attainability. With the practical knowledge you're acquiring doing so much work on all of the cool vehicles you've been through, you could probably open a successful exotic shop if you wanted. Great vid, as per, thanks again.
reminds me of the time I rebuilt my 1962 DKW. I went down to the Mercedes Benz parts depot in Fort Lee, NJ and bought three pistons and rings and a gasket set; took the engine out by hand, no lift, no chains, just hands. The engine had no water pump either. I had it bored with tight clearance and when I got it out on the road, it seized up and the wheels stopped. I waited 10 min for it to cool and drove it for ten years after that.
I literally was about to compliment your hair Freddy, looks good, really happy Keeps is working for you! Your gunna look sharp for the next CarTrek for sure, both with the well groomed locks, but also in a very sexy Austin Martin.
You wouldn't believe how often I hear it pronounced Austin Martin, must be the Austin Healey being another legacy UK brand

I had a low rpm stumble with my M5. After replacing everything that you just replaced and then some, it turned out to be an injector..,
Reaching down there after that oil filter gave me flashbacks of reaching the number 4 and 6 plugs on my Hennessey Camaro. So much plumbing with the brake lines and intercooler plumbing on that side... Never have I been so delighted to hear a dropped plug hit the garage floor.

I changed the pulleys, tensioner and belt in my 2005 DB9 with only 17,000 miles as I had a whiny noise when warm. Seems to have cured issue for only £140. Great videos man and love the DBS my dream Aston to or a MK2 Vanquish
Tavarish: They asked me 7000 usd so I’m going to do it my self
Car Wizard : Thank god I’m Hoovies Garage mechanic and not Tavarish
Why go to a dealership when you have a Jared Pink?!
Break it again. We enjoy watching you wrench.
I'm considering buying a DBS/Virage/DB9 from this era. Really appreciate that you show your work as this is the type of car you want to learn to work on, because it would be a forever car.
Removing the oil filter on this V12 is a major pain. I take the under tray off (which has so many retaining bolts is a big undertaking in itself) which provides good access to the filter, but more importantly allows some decent leverage. Under tray removal is also required to change the air filters so is part of any service schedule.
This is a tease for Cartrek 5. Honestly I can’t wait to see it and what everyone brings to compete! Go Freddy because the last one you bombed!
@Jon Thor what and why is this
TBH he is actually the only one that didn't cheat and that GTB was and is a kids dream car I'd love to have one even the one Freddy had for CT season 4

Tavarish, you are bound for much much higher numbers. Love your genuinity and simple words. Never lose this character brother. You're awesome, and inspire so many to wrench everyday! I love your team too
Feeling your coke, huh?
Nice work brother. May I suggest 2 more maintenance things that you didn’t mention doing? 1st, the fuel injectors seem like one of the easier things to get at under the hood. It shouldn’t cost much to take them to a shop that super flushes them and make them new again. Especially since you had a cylinder that was going lean and destroyed the old plug. And 2nd, I don’t know how how hard to get at your fuel filter(s) is to get at, but that’s def part of reg maintenance that may have been over looked by the previous owner.
One last thing, always check your "pre-gapped” plugs to make sure one or more didn’t get knocked out of whack in shipping. From personal experience, I’ve never bought a set of pre-gapped plugs that at least one didn’t need adjustment. Just trying to spread some wisdom, love ya brother!
Aside from Freddy's amazing can-do attitude, and his vast knowledge of how automobiles work, can we take a minute to acknowledge how he always throws in absolute bangers during his time lapses?
I like to think he's got his headphones in during editing, going through new free license free music, and thinks 'Yep, that'll do'
What's the name of the track that starts at 15:33?

DUDE! After all that amazing work, and the expense, it would have been ideal to put in a remote oil changing kit. There are adapters with hoses where you can relocate the oil filter and NEVER go through this again!
This is honestly the first time I'm going to be waiting for the next episode as much as I would, for my favorite TV series. Never before have I had this on youtube. You're the first Tavarish.

hey explain
I’ve done the same service on my V12 Virage when I had the car. It was a pain to do the filter but if you use a strap it makes it a lot easier.
For some reason I absolutely love the time lapse music
One of the most under appreciated movie cars in modern day. I still remember seeing it for the first time and damn I need one.
Looking back on this now, the 31:47 is such a cool transition into the shoot, awesome job!

Watching you fight with that oil filter made me appreciate the engineers that designed the Jag V12 from the XJ-S
Same. I work on my V12 XJS and access isn’t easy. Watching this made me feel better. My oil change is the usual 20 minutes.

Translation: I'm going to get Jared to fix it.
Are you going to trust that the plugs are pre-gapped correctly? You're just asking for trouble.
My apologies. You really did do it all yourself. Respect.
I went through exactly this same exercise on my own V12 Vantage (2011) last December. Mine also had 31k miles with the low-RPM misfires. With a scan tool, I found misfires on 9 of the 12 cylinders. I used all OEM parts except for the spark plugs, for which I used Denso IT22's instead. Sourced the coils and gaskets from an Aston dealer in the UK, which was the cheapest option. I was disappointed to find that the coils are actually made in China; seems like I could have bought the $6 ones that come directly from China. Also replaced the PCV valves, but I used the factory Ford ones.
Congrats. That looked way more complicated than my limited skills could ever accomplish. The rare individual that can actually afford and work on one of these cars.

Big boys have BIG BOY TOYS! Love your channel and look forward to all you do! Keep wrenching my friend!
I don’t do much on the spanner’s now but I didn’t see anything that I wouldn’t have attempted myself and that certainly isn’t me being disrespectful as many of the techniques are very good. With regards to the oil filter it was like the old Peugeot’s I used to have. A right PITA that spills everywhere. I’m guessing the easier way is from underneath and in a dealership they are spoilt with ramps, all the correct tooling, genuine parts and generally young cars within warranty. Great stuff and so much more satisfying than paying an apprentice to rush a job at a dealership.
CarTrek Season 5 is going to be so good. Saw the teasers on Instagram.
Sometimes I just feel like he's an American Jeremy Clarkson.
But there wasn't a single hammer involved in this service
@@markwright3161 that's where the American part kicks in 😂😎
Clarkson was a bull in a china shop. He would rather use a hammer to do all jobs than take his time to do it properly.
If he got engine trouble he was as useless at fixing things as the executive director's secretary.
If you're going to compare Tavarish to any of the topgear/grandtour guys, it's got to be May. Sure, the personality is all wrong but atleast May knew his way around an engine, he loved to do things the right way the first time around instead of doing half-assed quick-fixes. On that part Tavarish is exactly like May.
The only part that is similar to Clarkson is the love for Austin Martin.
@@Nordorf Yeah, sure. Tavarish would never half ass something and the throw in a bunch of quick fixes. For sure. Good points though.

man, that DB9S is indeed a dream car...but maintenance is up to par with a price. Take the intake to change the oil filter? Wow. It seems that there is a need for an aftermarket remote filter assembly. Nice work, I enjoyed the vid
I always like the part when the engine runs quieter after oil cycles all the way through it, it always sounds like it's sighing to me.
If this is getting featured in the next cartrek then there's a chance it could be listed on auto-tempest.
