    I've been testing out a version with a couple Slickshot Show-offs and been able to swing for 9+ damage pretty much out of nowhere with it on numerous occasions.

    Uhhhh am I the only one who has noticed “Otherworldly Gaze”? 4 of in my Phoenix 4 of in my Murktide never ever seen anyone else playing it in either deck

      It was tech used for a while, and it can fit rather well into the deck! I'd say that build of phoenix is more suited with Demilich, rather than Shredder!

      It works but it tends to limit you more.
      You generally have enough tempo that you do not need the extra dig.
      It can cause you to run out of steam.
      It makes post board difficult since you are even more graveyard reliant.
      Lastly you’re either replacing it with sleight of hand which is likely a bad idea looking at phoenix winrates before it came out
      Or your adding it in addition to sleight of hand in which case case you are removing control elements to add otherworldy, which means your trading having good games on average where you have comeback potential with control for explosive games sometimes and terrible games other times where your just flooded with your 16 cantrips.
      That being said it is a great card. I played it a lot while I was learning the deck. I think an argument can be made that if you’re learning phoenix you will get more wins with a more explosive build vs a control build that requires careful decision making. DIG DEEP and attack face is a viable strategy, it is just inflexible.

    Thanks for the guide! I was wondering, how would you adapt this list for Explorer? I'd assume it would be effectively the same minus the Temporal Trespass combo and no Tears of Valakut, so I guess what would be your 76th-78th cards in this list?

    • @BattleChads
      @BattleChads  Před 6 dny +1

      Hi Paper, thanks for asking!
      The go to logic for replacements would be the following:
      -1 galvanic iteration -1 temporal tresspass
      +2 Proft's Eidetic Memory
      -1 Tears of Valakut
      +1 Beacon Bolt
      Even in paper, a lot of lists are removing the temporal tresspass combo, since it play badly into the amount of graveyard hate that a lot of decks are running.
      (i also like to cut 1 or 2 slight of hands for highway robbery, but unsure if that's actually worth it yet, but the card does seem powerful!)
      Hope that helps, and happy grinding!

    why doesn't run phoenix run duelist of the mind? it just seems like that card could run away with 6+ damage in a turn

    • @BattleChads
      @BattleChads  Před měsícem +2

      it fights with the ledger shredder slot, which I would say is a stronger card on average! However there is some versions starting to appear with Proft's Eidetic Memory, and maybe a duellist of the mind build works better there!

      Your distribution of crime spells is not that great in comparison to the amount of times you play more than one spell a turn making the graveyard aspect reliant on either killing a creature or counterspelling. Both are not flexible scenarios. Counterspells are often not before your attack step and decks like control often lack a target for a damage spell.
      I think a better argument can be made for the grixis build where you have thoughtseize as an additional crime source.
