The America’s Cup has always been a game changer in the world of sailing and the 35th edition of the race is no different. Twenty years ago, the average max speed was 12 knots. Today, it’s 40 knots (in less than 12 knots of wind). Meaning, you don’t even hear the wind because you’re going so fast. While sailing these machines, crews constantly teeter on the edge between ridiculously fast and total catastrophe, combating situations and G-force speeds when maneuvering. We should also mention that the sailors are not strapped in, which is like driving an F1 car without a seatbelt.

Donoven Francis trust me, with the multirotor used in this video it will have altitude hold, stabilisation and gps lock. He literally plunked it in the path of the boat and let it sit there, almost hands off. Sooo easy, if i was willing to risk a drone i could eaaasily do that.
Sloth FPV yes ik that I own a DJI phantom but give the man some credit the shots were good and he MANUALLY flew under a fast, moving boat lol he really risked the drone there
The sound is eargasmic. Especially everytime the foil drops. Bammm.

Problem with modern yacht racing is that it has no relevance to anyone. The 'yachts' are barely seaworthy.
I didn't even realise the America's cup was on. It used to get so much coverage. The sport has become too obscure.

kinda cool? but i dunno it seems like the case of those bobsleigh sports... too hard to see the talent involved, and visually pretty lackluster. not to mention the cost of the whole thing.

A sailing hydrofoil, hydrofoil sailboat, or hydrosail is a sailboat with wing-like foils mounted under the hull. As the craft increases its speed the hydrofoils lift the hull up and out of the water, greatly reducing wetted area, resulting in decreased drag and increased speed. A sailing hydrofoil can achieve speeds exceeding twice the wind speed.
Both monohull and multihull sailboats can be retrofitted with hydrofoils, although greater stability can be achieved by using the wider planform of a catamaran or trimaran.
