Sailor were popular in 1976, great on so many levels. Phil Pickett went to play with Boy George and wrote several well-known songs. He's a double Ivor Novello Award-winning English composer. You maybe heard his stuff in TV commercials too. At their peak - remember this is mid-1970's - Sailor were bigger than Queen.
And here in Germany they had a big comeback with several hits in the 90s in the original line-up. They continued to tour (in various line-ups) until 2014! Totally underrated, the guys.
@@Sailormarinero Yeah, these bands were welcome and appreciated in Germany, and Japan, more than in Britain. Rock music maybe gets an hour a week in UK, if it's lucky.
I looked this band up after listening to Johnny on Radio X today. A pupil of the drummer (now a teacher) "Mr Serpell" gave him a shout out. Gotta say this is a class song. It's an ear worm for sure.
I remember this back in 1976. This video would appear to have been an appearance on ITV's "Supersonic". I used to particluarly like that show as it included much of Director's instructions from the Gallery with Mike Mansfield directing - "Stand by studio, Good luck everybody, cue Titles and roll Supesonic" IIRC. Thanks for uploading.
They were coming to our school to give a concert the week before the concert this came out needless to say they never came never forgotton that !!!!!!!!
I just came across this beginning my hard search of the group "DATA" created by Georg Kajanus. Then noticed that he had the band Sailor.... Not easy to search records of a group named "DATA" on the internet. hahaha At least, I've got 2 LP's: 2-Time and Elegant Machinery. Splendid records! This song in this video bares quite similarities to Brian Ferry. :)
@@andreasboose5611 I just tracked it down here on the Tube. I do remember "Fallout" but not the rest. Opera Electronica seem to be more "shattered" in style then 2-Time and Elegant Machinery, in my opinion. Thanks for the tip! :)
Frank Paterson I agree! My childhood holidays there from the mid 70s and 80s. I visited there a few weeks ago and its hardly changed a bit. The beach is beautiful.
Without a doubt the 70s was the greatest era for fun, quirky, uplifting music. It's a shame the revolution faded.
I'm with you buddy, all of the way...........🤩🤩
The endless summer of 76. I often ask people if they remember half a dozen hits from that year. They nearly all remember this.
Great Summer but a late starter.
heute mal seit langem mal wieder im Radio gehört. Einfach Klasse

one of my old time favourites. .......
The gent on the piano. ....man he is brilliant!
Brilliant harmonies and a super solid production.
Georg Kajanus, Jeffrey Lesser
Toller Klang und toller Rythmus,
mit dem alten Nickelodeon.
Damals einzigartig, und heute unvergessen.
Der Nickel-Odeon-Saund.
This song used to have me and my sisters in hysterical laughter when my dad used to play this in the car! Now it always cheers me up! :-D
I was watching The Clash documentary and it featured a portion of this group, I never heard of them until now....♪♪♪
Fab!
Back when music was carefree and fun, just good times without being serious.
Dance Hall Classic This One!

Loved the seventies. Great decade for music.
Great foot tapper instantly recognisable.Great memories from best music era

brilliant song. Absolute classic
Great days of pure pop and masterful fun. They came they saw and never hung around long but the memory endures!
Love blessings from Wavre waals Brabant la Belgique

I'm celebrating my memories over a few stubbies of Coopers Red..👍💯
Top tune
This would have won Eurovision hands down
Certainly would.Quirky and catchy tune.
Bloody right, its total junk and a circus now, utter garbage.

No, I spent my childhood looking at Roxy albums trying to find a track called 'Glass of Champagne!'
You were right mate - Georg's vocal on it sounds too much like Brian Ferry's
I think Bryan Ferry sang it on an advert for M&S.
@@Knapps62no, this Song was written ( lyrics and music ) by the Leadsinger and Founder of Sailor: Georg Kajanus
I know whatt you mean..it sounds a little bit like "Virginia Plain" but ..much better ❤
It was pop, in the purest sense of the word. Catchy and memorable. I loved bands like that and have a lot of great memories of that time.
So many memories. We would line up in the orphanage on a Sunday night to watch this film clip.
great song
Liked them so much
Great band
Great group, good fun, great tunes.
This gives energy...
as of all of their songs there is a hidden meaning only an old mariner would know but just enjoy great music
my childhood.
Me too
i was living in germany that year 1976, it was a massive hit.
Me Too!! :) Mannheim!
yes, this song was No. 1 in germany for a short time than for a long time in spring 1976
No. 2 between march and july
They were coming to our school to give a concert the week before the concert this came out needless to say they never came never forgotton that !!!!!!!!
I remember seeing this on Supersonic. I loved that show.
And... cue Sailor, roll camera 3....
GREAT MEMORIES.
Long Live the Seventies!

You have to find the very first Album from Data called "Opera Electronica" from 1981 . This was a real Synth - Pop Masterpiece

Reporting as husband not wife.
This. Song. Is. Fucking Brilliant!
Always thought this was Roxy Music... fantastic :)
Lol ....I could have sworn it was Cockney rebel .... I was a young teen when this came out

The song was called "Dancing", Henry Marsh, the keyboard player in Sailor contacted me & has very kindly downloaded the song & sent it to me.
