I was not impressed with the idea of this until you showed it. I suddenly realized that I could use this for my father. I installed a small set up for him with lights and controlling with two flic buttons. This was too much for an 86 year old. But this could work for him (maybe sticky labels for him).
Yeah I think the blank faces are a little bit of a challenge to remember a so stickers are a must if you want ease of access!
But it’s possibly one of the most simplistic physical ways of interacting with a smart home that I’ve used so far (possibly like you say, even more so that buttons)!
I'm moving soon and will have guests stay more often as I'm moving a couple of hours away. It'll mostly be my mum who is in her 70's and does not want to speak to Siri. I think one of these in the guest room will be brilliant. Definitely with stickers.
I could be interested in this. I would have trouble seeing the dots, but I have a Brother label maker with clear labels I could use. Thanks to you and Paul for these videos.
Great stuff! Purchased one today!
You get 10 out of 10.
At last, visual imparement hS been looked at.
Me and my wife are blind.
Love your channlevm8.
Happy new year to you.
Thanks Dennis, I always try to think about the wider impact of a design choice! Happy new year!
Indeed, it's simplicity is genius. The suggestion of Braille is also genius.
Ha ha, Stu. Just watched your cameo appearance on Paul Hibbert's channel, and here you are, both reviewing the same product at the same time.
It’s a join episode launch again so you can get a wider view and different takes at the same time 👍👌
Buying one just so I can leave it on side 6! 😍 Xxx
So does this mean Stu has to show a nipple? 😂
Can you set side 6 to Stu rubbing his nip ? …. Asking for a friend ❤️
I have one connected to the Conbee USB dongle and it works with home assistant. It controls lights and music in my studio. I LOVE my cube!
amazing b-roll 👏
Excellent review! Thank you!
Super crisp audio also, love that!
What speakers are those on your desk?
Really nice.
The advanced functions may not work with the Amazon ecosystem, but they all work just fine in Home Assistant.
Edit: No Aqara hub required for Home Assistant, since the device connects using standard old Zigbee. (Cue Hibbert's "Oooh the zigbee!)
Are all actions in scene mode supported by home assistant?
@@KeyboardSpellbounder struggling to get mine to work in home assistant.
Thanks Stu.
Very impressive tech Stu.
I’d prefer jazz to sexy music. 😂
Seriously though, this is a good piece of kit. 👍🏻
Happy New Year by the way. 🥃🥃
Hi, I have a problem:(
My Aqara Cube 1T arrived today and I tried setting it up with my HA via the Zigbee Conbee2 Stick connected via Zigbee2MQTT. As it turns out, it's not supported. I already updated my HA Core Version and also tried it with the manual setup for not supported devices on the Zigbee2MQTT website.
it reminds me of the Foundation series 😍
I'm not first but I'm still before Joe Baz, guy must have a Christmas hangover. Hey Stu hope the Xmas was good to you.
Hope he’s alright! joe where are you at?
I have labeled up the sides on mine with CZcams channel names and NetFlix shows so the kids can make the Android TV play what they want via Home Assistant ADB Scripts. I do find communication slowness so a shake will flash a LED strip on off so they know to look for that first, then use it.
Thats a cool idea!
Make the sides just like a dice, with dots set out as a dice, but raised up.
I love my cube but I’m limited what I can do only got 2 lights and echo Apple HomePod mini
i would be tempted if it had a choice of colours, even better if it was brushed nickel, i hate white, it is such a boring choice. if it goes on half price sale at some point i might get it and get the spray paint out.
Video was good, but I’d love to see it in a dodecahedron!
Stu reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson, but with all of the Ar*ehole squeezed out 🤣.
Great review, I've just ordered one 👍
What brand of light bulbs are you using as part of your setup?
SwitchBot 👌
The beard doesn’t harm the Tech Wizard look either Stu
🧙🏻♂️
Well, I don't like your chances of getting to 100k (it's 14 minutes to the new year here in Australia), but I've bumped your numbers up by one. Happy New Year :)
By the end of 2023 not 2022 😉😂. I’ve got a year and a day! 🤞. Welcome to the Country Club! 🥃

@@StusReviewsUK oh! 😂😂 Well I've started you off well then! Thankyou for the welcome. Happy New Year 😁
When is the dungeons and dragons type 20 sided version coming out?
😂 can you imagine!!!
I’d be having a sticker on each space I wanted to use this in, as a reminder to which gestures are tied to which action
Just scrawl with permanent marker 😂.
@@StusReviewsUK That was my technique for my ‘beard’
So, my question is...can more than one cube be set up in the home, one in each room for example each programmed differently?
I think that's surely possible
I have come over from Hibbert land. After watching Paul's review I was not convinced. After yours ... positioning it as just a bit of fun ... it seems like a no-brainer. Also being new here, I also loved what you've done with your office. This dark green wall and Indiana Jones feel desk and lamps is great. I might have to steal some of these ideas for my new super-smart place.
There’s nothing like mixing the old and new! Welcome to the Country Club! 🥃
You want to hit 100,000 subscribers? Like,in the face? That's ambitiously violent.
It’s all the whisky I’ve been drinking. Makes me rather aggressive. 🥃
Arise Sir Stu…….wait kneel back down you giant I can’t reach with the sword
Dare I say the naughty word? Home Assistant? HOOOOME Assistant?!!
Turns out it's plain Zigbee so fairly straight forward to use in HA, as long as you have a Zigeee stick. But
Why is it a dirty word? Surely there's more HA users out there than there are people using whatever proprietary app you happen to need for this thing.
Honestly fairly impressive that the video manages to be 10 mins long without mentioning anything technical at all!
Cheers - I try hard 👍 thing is, you’d be vastly wrong about the user base. HA has a user base of around 500,000 and Aqara system has around 2 million users alone, and it’s estimated 25% of households in the US and UK own an echo device, which is an enormous number. HA is really an advanced system (better, but far more technical and not user/consumer friendly). I focus on the simple consumer solutions and ease-of-use for the ‘every man’. If you want someone doing a deep dive on HA, this isn’t the channel for you. If you like smart home gadgets and want to see how it can integrate into products in the most simplistic way, then feel free to subscribe.
@@StusReviewsUK I was actually only interested to know if HA is supported by this gadget. Maybe a fun story yuo could share. I know I was a little short, deliberately then. Now? Hm.. happy new year
My reply was to the comment from limpfish above👆
@@limpfishyes When I hear the words Home Assistant I can't but think of Paul Hibbert's renditions. He definitively plays it naughty. Hence why.
Ok, give it a roll and see if movie night is going to switch over to Sky, Netflix, Disney,Amazon Prime, Britbox or Paramount Plus.
Then switch the sides over to different cursor key presses and keep rolling till the one side set to play comes up and starts the show.
Great idea to randomise what you watch!
I've been playing with one for a while, the latency is terrible
I mean… you might have something causing that, because as you can see from this live demo - the latency is no worse than any other smart home control (possibly even faster than Alexa)
That should be side 666 with that evil on it 😳
Back to the fires from whence it came! ✝️
@@StusReviewsUK The power of Christ compels Stu!
The sides need brail.
After 2 minutes is over 🤣......you need to program one side as a distraction device mate!
Wondered if anyone would get it 😉
And call a taxi 😊
Someone will start a business 3d printing cases for these things.
If Jeremy Clarkson did tech reviews, only better.
Clever, but very niche. If I want to control my smart home I first have to find a damn cube which is probably down the back of the sofa. I don't think so 😂
Yeah it would be cool if it had a little speaker to locate like the new Amazon pro remote!
cute gadget but nothing you couldn't do with simple buttons
Very true, but this has a bunch of benefits. Firstly, singular buttons can only trigger up to 3 routines (or at least thats the flic buttons anyway), and generally they aren't considered portable - you'd stick them on the wall.
Lastly... this is way more fun 😂.
you're a lot more likely to lose that many buttons.
@@estusflask982 The buttons stay in their respective place, for example on one desk. Usually you don't need to turn on lights or computer from the other side of the house anyway. So portable isn't automatically a benefit. The cube might get misplaced or lost easily.
What really matters is MATTER...
Why does it matter? 😂
@@StusReviewsUK Because, as you techexpert certainly know, it's the gold standard that connects all the individual non-compatible standards out there.
I was joking 😉
I’m Aqara user, about 80 devices in two homes with HomeKit Apple. The Cube T1 pro is the most bad Aqara product in 2023. An year in waiting for the T1 pro and now, instead of a full control of Aqara actions (like the first mode, rotate, flip 90-180 and push) in other systems you can only add actions to faces; it is hard to remember and not really useful
Wonder what the reasoning for only scene mode in other systems is!? I suspect it’s the 3rd party system limitations as apposed from Aqara.
*** PLEASE ANSWER *** The Aqara Cube T1 Pro can now control Alexa Routine and is a Matter Device. Since, now Alexa supports Matter Compatible devices. Is it possible to connect the Cube with Alexa and Control Alexa Routines WITHOUT HAVING THE AQARA HUB. Or the hub is still required and mandatory??
#spyhome
You’re watching this on an internet connected device. They already know everything about you. 👽
@@StusReviewsUK Yeah they can tap into the cameras at the public library and observe me there. The IOT offers way more power to the technocracy than that. Get a Tesla while you're at it slave.
9:03 - I am already a subscriber .... this is awkward
Then I love you. 💚🥃
Thought... Program it so:-
- If side 1 is up Alexa says "1"
- If side 2 is up Alexa says "2"
- ...
- If side 6 is up Alexa says "6"
Roll it... You now have the world’s most expensive dice.
