      Also yeah, “the quiet comprehending of the ending of it all” is such a powerful line. Also worth mentioning “Twenty thousand years of this, seven more to go”, and “a gift shop at the gun range, a mass shooting at the mall”

  • @blankslate1993

    I think the funny feeling is essentially existential dread. The song reads kind of like a rundown of all the random news lines of the day, and some it’s happy, some of it’s terrifying, but the main reaction is feeling insignificant and unable to do anything about any of it other than simply consume it and wait for the next thing to happen. Just that realization that everything is out of your control, and that’s either comforting or scary or both. Idk that’s just my hot take - it’s a great song! Very satirical Bob Dylan type vibe for me.
    Also, another seemingly irrelevant idea I had about the “obeying all the traffic laws in grand theft auto 5” line is that I think he’s inferring that we’re headed towards this ‘metaverse’ era and I think gta 5 was kind of the first big semi-metaverse playground for people, and when he, somewhat casually, says obeying all the traffic laws, I think he means like eventually we’ll even be policed online because the metaverse will be where we live our lives. Even that will be a place we can be controlled when the point was supposed to be it’s a place where we can do whatever we want. Just like what happens to everything, I suppose. Idk maybe a reach but just an idea I had when I was lit re-listening to this lol.

    • @job0wnage
      @job0wnage Před 7 měsíci

      To me, that funny feeling is also about in humour you often use seemingly contradictory things and put those together, which for a quick moment seems to solve the contradiction, relief, but then you immediately realize how ridiculous the combination of the contrdictory things is, laughter. it is so layered because I can also imagine that as the show is called inside and is about him staying inside but also about his own inner world as a human, that funny feeling could refer to his own process of making comedy and playing shows again in this day and age after his long break. Love this song

    When people say that he can't sing it usually means that he does not have a pop musicians voice. I have noticed that if you don't have voice for pop music a lot of people will perceive you as a bad singer (I remember when Katy Perry was considered a bad singer because she has a Rock voice). Those people know very little about music.

    It was at this point in the special that I had to pause it because the lyrics hit me so hard that I started sobbing uncontrollably as I comprehended what he was saying with Crystal clarity.
    I have been a fan for nearly 5 years now. Listen to podcasts, watch interviews bc his mind intrigues me. When I found out that he and I have some authors in common, he earned my respect.
    All these things are things that have bugged him in various interviews, making the lyrics like a dark comedic song for the stans bc we know how these things are connected, and even as it all goes to hell, we observe it and share that funny feeling with him...and that is why I cried. And I found myself crying every time I listened to it, until I watched Phoebe Bridgers covering it live and heard an audience of ppl half my age or more laughing at the things that made me cry, and that helped me to change my perception of this wonderful song.
    Thank you for reacting to his work. There is a lot of it out there - and you already know yer in for a hell of a Ride ;)
    As for the haters, one of the other commenter quoted Bo, and that is good advice. Bo once said that the very first comment that he ever got was "go go gadget faggot". He also has spoken about the impact of reading 10,000 negative comments that just eviscerated him until he adopted the philosophy mentioned elsewhere here. So just let it go, take several deep breaths and take a break and go do something that you love, like playing with a pet, or whatever brings you actual joy to cancel out what the negative was doing to your head. Coping mechanisms bc ppl are mean af in their anonymity; there is simply no need for it, but there it is.
    More lovers of your channel than haters, tho, it seems, and I have joined their ranks. I may have come for Bo, but will take some time, explore your Playlists, and see what you're about!
    See you out there!

    It’s almost like the “funny feeling” is just knowing something is not right and missing. Like the song is hollow and you don’t know what’s missing but it’s there. Idk if that makes sense but that’s how I feel. Whenever I hear this song I feel empty and confused but also kinda at home.

    I think he purposely left it vague so the listener can project their own "funny feeling". To me, it's the contrast between the mundane (Logan Paul, halftime shows) and the disturbing (Mass shootings, climate change) and the dissociation that occurs when you just get overwhelmed with everything that's happening, realizing all you can do is sit back and watch it all go to shit (which I think is kinda what's meant with his last chorus). Deep shit man.

    I think the real best line is "A gift shop at the gun range, a mass shooting at the mall". I mean SERIOUSLY, what better way is there to point out the blatant irony and total derailment of America, or the human condition in general, then talking about 2 completely contradictory situations that should have never mixed, but nowadays seem so "normal".
    Gun ranges are where guns should be shot, Malls are where you should buy gifts. Without the context of the complete de-sensitization of human beings and the totally f**cked up news stories you hear, switching those purposes around seems like complete non-sensical garbage, but thats just it: ITS ACTUALLY HAPPENED! But to us, because it has happened, it just feels like another day in the life of a human being, watching the news or whatever. So surreal.
